For a bit of nostalgia! I’ll kick things off..

  • Hard Candy makeup and nail polish. I had a quad of eyeshadows in purples and golds, thought it was the shit!
  • hair mascaras. Wtf were they about. Made your hair look like a gunky stringy mess
  • body shop dewberry body spray, which was the thing at our school, along with
  • wearing boy’s Lynx deodorant (I still recall which boys I fancied wore Tempest!)
  • heather shimmer lipstick, obviously
  • Rouge Noir nail polish, which everyone thought was the shit cos of Pulp Fiction, but it turned out to not even be the one that Uma Thurman wore)

Hit me with your memories!

So many of these memories involve the Body Shop! My whole school used to smell of Dewberry perfume-Both girls and teachers!

Our Body Shop was always packed-the stuff was lovely and affordable, now it costs a fortune and our shop only ever has shop staff in-I haven’t seen a customer in there for about 10 years! I earn decent money and I refuse to pay those prices!!

Revlon 3 day lash tint.
A mascara that never came off and never needed taking off, I just topped it up every couple of days. I've boycotted Revlon ever since they stopped it Blush.

BessMarvin · 17/11/2019 16:33

I'd completely forgotten about flex shampoo. It smelled like French fancies or whatever you call those tiny cakes.

tobee · 17/11/2019 17:13

You can get Flex shampoo on eBay apparently. And amazon; but some less good reviews on there.

tobee · 17/11/2019 17:16

Ah! Having checked that eBay listing it seems to be going for £29.99 ConfusedShock

Blingismything · 17/11/2019 17:22

Cleopatra soap smelt lovely

frugalkitty · 17/11/2019 17:28

@woodhill I remember those boots toiletries, I was going to mention them when I posted but I've never met anyone who knows what I mean! Glass bottles, white labels with black writing, kind of fifties style. My skin was lovely when I used them, and suddenly they got discontinued.

Brizzle1991 · 17/11/2019 17:49

This is such an amazing thread !!!!!!! I worked at The Body Shop HQ so had an abundance of everything (bought for pennies at the factory sales) I was in heaven working there in my 20s after the 6th form years of Morello Cherry Lip Balm, Vitamin E soap, White Musk, Dewberry, Banana Shampoo, Japanese Washing Grains............ I loved the perfume oil bar and I drowned myself in Ananya, frequently got stopped and asked what my perfume was.
On the perfume front does anyone remember a perfume called Geminesse? I loved that when I was about 14.

fedup21 · 17/11/2019 17:52

tobee · 17/11/2019 17:55

Le Jardin (pastel frosted bottle)
Or, for the more 'advanced' 14 yr old...
Le Jardin d'Amour (sultry black frosted bottle)

Bioré blackhead removing strips
Tiny metallic face stickers that were supposed to make you look like Adam Ant
bath cubes that looked like snooker cue chalk
Cosmetics to Go eye shadows/blusher that came set in little paper wedges so you could make up your own Camembert of shades
Cosmetics to Go henna bricks
Cosmetics to Go huge A3 catalogues
Big Fergie hair bows

woodhill · 17/11/2019 18:28

I think I may still have a drawstring bag somewhere which had those boots cosmetics in it

FadingStar · 17/11/2019 18:28

Crimpers. I used to be so jealous of girls who had them..their hair looked so cool. I tried to get the same look by sleeping in plaits.

Gatekeeper · 17/11/2019 18:57

I loved Cosmetics to G- far superior to alter ego Lush with their neon colours and bloody glitter. I ordered from them a lot and they used to include a stick of rock in the parcel Grin. They used to do a lovely coconut shampoo and a neroli hair perfume that smelled divine. Loved the Isobar and SandBar soap

Fidji perfume anyone? My first 'grown up' one

Sarcelle · 17/11/2019 19:03

Prescriptives custom foundation. Colour matched to perfection, never had such a good match since.

No 7 Soft and Sheer tinted moisturiser, none of the replacements they have introduced are as good. They sold it in in Target in US long after it was discontinued here. I made my husband drive to one when I was in California and bought 10 tubes! Gutted when I used it. I still have a little bit in a pot which I use as a shade comparator to any new foundation or tinted moisturiser.

No 7 honey blush. They may still sell a blush called honey but it is not the same. Whenever I wore it without fail people told me I had lovely skin. It was the blusher.

Gatekeeper · 17/11/2019 19:10

also loved Lancome Magie Noir and Body Shop Woody sandalwood and Japanese musk from the perfume bar

hauntedvagina · 17/11/2019 19:46

Oh my god the memories here! I spent my teen years smelling of Lou Lou Blue with a face full of Number 17 make up. I think my chosen shade of lipstick was Bon Bon??

Towards the end of the nineties I progressed to Ruby and Millie, loved their lip glosses and the satisfying click you got when winding the base. I had a full set of their makeup brushes and they're still going strong (and are washed regularly!).

Wincarnis · 17/11/2019 20:01

Brizzle1991, I remember Geminesse by max factor, in a yellowish pack with red writing. Also around that time was Havoc by Mary Quant and Revlon Ciara......ah memories....

cathpinc · 17/11/2019 20:09

My favourite Body Shop fragrances were Roma, or Rose Musk. Oh, that sticky tiered bar of slightly claggy glass bottles...

I also liked Cosmetics to Go's Ginger perfume - later Lush versions were not quite the same.

MissLadyM · 17/11/2019 20:18

I love this thread! Bring back Silkience conditioner! It was rich and so nourishing. The smell was amazing. I'll never forget it.

MissLadyM · 17/11/2019 20:18

Oh I also remember Toyah had a make up range in the 80s!

Fuckloadofcheese · 17/11/2019 20:22

Oh god, Prescriptives makeup! Forgot all about that.

I loved Cosmetics to Go when I was a student. I've never really been interested in Lush. CTG made a fantastic patchouli scented bubble bath called Smaragadine. Every so often I check to see if Lush has brought it back but they never do.

prampushingdownthehighst · 17/11/2019 20:27

With my first pay packet I bought out of the Avon book
Iced Champink lipstick
Cafe Au Lait lipstick
Night musk perfume and went into boots buying the beautiful horse chestnut shampoo and conditioner.
Most of my money spent that week!!
Fab memories on this thread.
