Having a closer look at the outfit it's the one she wore to the ballet last year I think. She probably does also have it in many other colours though

She's worn this suit at least twice before. It's a fun colour. The fabric seems to be bobbling now though (the photo when she is holding the bouquet).

Well, no. But she might well think, “I’m a powerful American woman who has been lambasted by the press and meghan is a powerful, American woman who is taking heat and I can sympathise with that. And because we’re in a situation where actually the opportunity to meet is not unreasonable, why not do that?” Plus Americans love royalty!

And let’s not forget that Hillary went on BBC and said that she thinks the treatment of meghan is appalling. I think at this point, Meghan is, understandably, pretty happy when high profile people back her.

Didn't kate wear that dress at some event a few years ago where there was serious discussion about the shoes she was wearing at the time? I'm sure HRHDuchessKate will have a link to the previous wear soon (if not already - rushed to get to school run so can't check).

Also have vague idea that her version of the skirt is shorter/longer than the original.

I love the colour on Kate but to my eyes the fit isn't quite right, though I can't put my finger on why. I wonder if it's a style that sits better on a shorter more petite frame?

The M&H Christmas thing was only officially announced 2 days ago.

I think the skirt is too short and flippy for her height; it looks irritatingly girlish, and she has a number of them.

I note she is described as the 'down to earth Duchess' because she caught a train wearing a £3k outfit, while MM is given the usual treatment:

That's a good colour on Kate and I like the slightly 40s look of the jacket. The skirt might've been better an inch or two longer but overall the suit straddles formal and fun quite well.

This are the other 2 times (I could find) that Kate has worn this outfit the first was for a heads together event the 2nd was last year at the visit to the royal opera house. I don't think any of the shoe combos are great but I think it was last years ones that were really wrong.

I do like this colour on Kate but the tailoring is off I think it's the skirt shape but it just doesn't look quite right for me.

I think she should've gone the full New Look (Dior not high street ) with the skirt length!

Those shoes in the second picture are awful!

I think it needs the black opaque tights with black suede footwear to keep it visually simple, as there's so much going on with the frills higher up.

Maybe it's the sleeves, just a smidge too short. I agree with whomever said the skirt was too flippy. I think it might suit one of the York girls better, shape wise.
