Today's offering
M&S turtle neck
Evans wide leg jeans
Sainsbury's fair Isle pattern fleece
Regatta trainers

With regard to dating etc, do you really want someone who is only interested in what you have or haven't got???

Next question - why do shop sizes vary so much! Find it infuriating that I'm a 16 in one brand and then could be a size 22 in another!!!

AliasGrape · 09/11/2019 11:25

Scruffs day today as I’m not planning on leaving the house beyond what is absolutely necessary (drop DP at station, walk dog, buy something nice for tea since DP out on a jolly).

River island plus jeans, F&F tesco shirt, vest top, Clark’s boots. All ancient.

I'm going to list some nice features that often get forgotten! (I'm trying not to only remember what other people have and I wish I had!) what have you got that you can emphasise?

Wide shoulders
Thick hair
Soft skin (often we larger women have glorious skin)
Neat ankles
Cleavage
Good posture (makes everything land in the right place, IYSWIM).
Slim wrist (mine are like a lumber jack's- no dainty bracelets for me!)
Good colouring- dark brows and lashes etc!

Myshitisreal · 09/11/2019 11:47

@picklemepopcorn thank you ♥ the white shirt is from a charity shop and is totally shapeless without the belt. I don't seem to be able to wear a belt around the natural waist. I learned Somewhere that under the bust is the thinnest part of the body so I do like an auld empire line belt to give a curve or bit of shape. Belt was thrifted. The jacket is a waistcoat I wear a lot as I feel it gives good shape also. Id love to get another one but have never seen one which worked as well. It's all about trying to create illusion and give shape where I don't necessarily have it. Appreciate the kind comments.

My magic waistcoat ♥

I feel like the wrong plus size too! I don’t have great legs particularly. I’m kind of hourglassy which has ‘Oooh sexy’ connotations but that never takes into account the large stomach? Maybe I’m more apple then? I don’t know now actually. Also my waist is quite high and I’m disproportionately long in the body so even though I’m fairly tall (5’7) it’s more body (and belly) than leg.

In the interests of being positive I do have very soft skin, decent boobs and nice high cheekbones. I’m neither confident nor insecure about my looks really - I just tend not to think about it because it’s better that way! But this thread is making me think more about how I look and encouraging me to try and have a bit of fun with clothes again.

Peachypips78 · 09/11/2019 12:09

I think we all think we are the wrong kind of plus size. I am 5'2", a size 16 and 13 stone. However in my pics for some reason I don't look this! And I look at others and think they look amazing.

Today- seasalt cardy from the sale, sporty dress from charity shop but is from Apricot, my new snag tights which I a total convert to as I have very chunky legs (again you can't see in photo!)

See, I hate the photos I've taken- I feel (hope) I look better in real life, moving, than in the photo.

But it's lovely seeing everyone's different outfits, knowing that we are ordinary people, not instagrammers or bloggers, just us!

Myshitisreal · 09/11/2019 12:25

@aliasgrape that shirt is marvellous 😍😍😍

HanarCantWearSweaters · 09/11/2019 12:55

Should have known you lot would all be lovely Blush thank you.

Which plus size instagrammers would you recommend to follow? Particularly if you’ve seen any small of nork?

As for features that could be positive? I do have broad shoulders but always thought this was negative and manly. Yy to the pp who said it makes your boobs so far apart!! Mine look like outward pointing saggy triangles!

I have good colouring I think. Used to have lovely thick hair but since the weight loss that’s gone to shit a bit. My skin is fairly clear. I have big eyes. I think my face could be pretty it’s just my lumpy droopy body that doesn’t work.

I like boat necks! I don’t own anything with one now but I do remember liking them, I will hunt for something with one now.

Am off to the centre for my ED now and lots to think and talk about. I will ask her to take a photo of me today as some sort of benchmark of where I’m at. Since my weight loss surgery last year I haven’t posted anything publicly but if you lot don’t mind I’ll post a pic today. One year post op yesterday.

HanarCantWearSweaters · 09/11/2019 12:56

Reassured lots of you feel like the wrong kind of plus size too. We all need to be better at feeling like we’re all the right kind

ShowerOfShite · 09/11/2019 13:01

Hi All
I too, think I'm the wrong type of plus size. I've rarely been happy with my body shape whether I've been big or small.
The problem is with my head, not the size of my arse.
Pj's here today as I'm ill and stuck to the settee.

Peachypips78 · 09/11/2019 13:07

It's just so boring thinking about how we look all the time. I spend about 75% of my brain space thinking about it. What a bloody waste of life and time.

TheSummoningDark · 09/11/2019 13:18

Today's dressed down look: old band t shirt, L, Fat Face shirt, 14, M&S jeans, 16, DS proof jewellery. I've sized down in the shirt for the silhouette even though I can't fasten all the buttons.

Today's discussion has been interesting. I definitely dress better when I think more about the bits I like than the bits I want to hide. I've been about the same size most of my adult life and I wish I had half the confidence that I did in my 20s. I'm so lazy now, I buy most of my clothes in the same few shops.

This is very interesting. Another apple here, big breasts, wide shoulders, no waist and nasty saggy tum, small bum and good legs. It’s trousers I struggle with. I look good in trousers ifI can find some to fit round my waist, they swim around hips and legs. I think I’m a 14 in the hip and an18/20 in the waist.so true that we want what we don’t have , I think a small bust and a big bum is lovely, and I would love a waist.i try and remember that I grew 4 people in my uterus, and that area has earned its lumps and bumps, but I do find it upsetting.
Cold here, so old black jeans and a seasalt sweater.

NancyEspana · 09/11/2019 13:41

I always hated being apple shaped and assumed it was the 'worst' shape, but I'm getting into it now. I like my legs and usually like my boobs (,decent bra helps). I do have a big tum after dcs, but I think a lot of people do. I don't see many women my age with washboard abs. If I could wave a magic wand, there's a lot I would change, but I can't do this sadly, so I have to work with what I've got!

Love the pear shape though. Shakira was my idol as a teenager and I am the complete opposite shape!

picklemepopcorn · 09/11/2019 13:45

3dogs, presumably you look good in jeggings? Skinnies with give to accommodate your tummy? And don't be afraid of maternity jeans and tops! They often work well!

I saved a lot of head space last year, peachy, by getting rid of anything 'hard to wear'. I kept my well fitting jeans and any tops that worked with them.
Immediately I had an easy to wear every day wardrobe, and didn't need to think at all!
Special occasions are still a bit dodgy, mind.

Hanar, wide shoulders are good because they carry clothes well and balance out your body. I was small busted before the kids, and could wear all sorts of dramatic tops because the boobs didn't get in the way! Bear in mind that my aim is to keep the eyes up and away from my rugby players legs! Grin

AliasGrape · 09/11/2019 13:49

Thank you @Myshitisreal - it was one I’d forgotten I owned!

My two eBay purchases I now regret have arrived. Vans pumps which actually I don’t regret so much now as I think they’ll come in handy and my previous vans (pale grey) are absolutely trashed and I only really stick them on for going to the bin now.

Still not sure about the boots though. Can’t think what on earth I’ll wear them with/for/

Oh also I have ordered a sexy shmexy dress for my hen do which has arrived on click and collect so I’m off to pick that up. It is going to be too tight and look hideous (quiz size 18 and I’m thinking I was very ambitious ordering it), but hey we can but try!

picklemepopcorn · 09/11/2019 13:51

I like a shoeboot, Grape! Really nice under trousers that aren't jeans. And that's a neutral colour these days. Men wear brown shoes with navy and black. The roolz are changing!

AliasGrape · 09/11/2019 15:29

Thanks pickle. They cost me less than a tenner including p&p so if I manage to find something they’ll go with for a couple of wears at least I’ll be doing ok. If not they can go to charity (I could try to resell on eBay but I just can’t be bothered!)

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/11/2019 15:35

Not dressed yet (just got out of the shower, I was dressed earlier today though!) but am going out tonight and will be wearing a Spaceship Earth dress with a red petticoat, builders tea coloured snags, and black t-bar heels. Not sure whether to wear a cardigan or a silver sparkly capelet with it though.

picklemepopcorn · 09/11/2019 15:38

Oh wow! That's stunning! Can we see a picture on? I love the idea of a red petticoat!

AliasGrape · 09/11/2019 15:50

Gorgeous Gretchen
I picked up my hen do dress and tried it on - it looks great everywhere apart from the bloated stomach as predicted, which does look quite bad.

However yesterday was a total carb and sugar fest and I’m hormonal so I think with a few weeks of making a few healthier choices, plus some decent sucky in underwear (I’d sworn off the stuff but for this one off special occasion I might relent) it will look ok. I love it so much and as my hen do is taking place in December and I’m not going to the works Christmas party I feel like I need a bit of green velvet in my life! It’s this one: www.quizclothing.co.uk/clothes/00100023666.html

I also have this navy one which is far more forgiving as back up in case the green still makes me look like I’ve got a beach ball shoved in there. Total bargain at £9.99 and sizes up to 26 if anyone is looking.

ringletsandtwiglets · 09/11/2019 16:18

You lovely ladies. I really feel the ‘wrong kind of fat’ thoughts. I suspect we all feel pretty insecure and I have no doubt that it stems from the constant diet/skinny models/ slim down for Christmas etc messages that we’re bombarded with.

I am wearing my navy sweater/denim skirt/M&S tights outfit again, with a mustard vest underneath for warmth. Someone on the other thread said I don’t look like a size 24, but I think this picture shows my mono-boob and weird double-tummy a bit more clearly. I have a tyre around my ribs, then another one below my belly button. I’d love a neat, defined waist and flatter stomach.
