Ankle grazers are rubbish

Particularly in winter. If you’ve got lovely ankles and don’t have a cold commute or live somewhere it rains maybe they are ok.

It’s hard to fin anything else though. How on earth are they sensible for real life?

They aren’t and they’re ugly

AppleKatie · 03/11/2019 08:34

Hear hear

They look good on less than 10% of the population. It’s a mad trend, I hate it so much!

Gingernaut · 03/11/2019 08:35

I'm so short, ankle grazers fit me full length without having to make any adjustments.

Ankle grazers and 7/8 length trousers are fabby.

FamilyOfAliens · 03/11/2019 08:38

I love ankle grazers and have been wearing them all through spring and summer.

I’m just about holding on at the moment but I’m guessing I’ll be changing to a skirt and tights soon as my ankles are very chilly on my walk to work!

FluffyAlpaca19 · 03/11/2019 08:53

Won't ankle grazer be OK to wear with ankle boots? They'll stop just above the top of the boots so you won't have to roll up the top to fit. I've seen loads of women wearing ankle grazer with autumn ankle boots.

DeadBod · 03/11/2019 08:59

I've just bought some straight leg ankle grazer length Jean's from Top Shop. I struggle with Jean's but these are a perfect fit for my shape.
I've now got the dilemma of what footwear to go with them. They'll be perfect in summer with Birk style shoes but not sure about winter wear.
I'm 50+ so need to be careful with my choices.

FamilyOfAliens · 03/11/2019 09:05

Won't ankle grazer be OK to wear with ankle boots?

That’s what DD recommended but all my ankle boots have a heel and aren’t suitable for my two-mile walk to work.

Guess I’ll just have to buy some flat boots then ...

CatUnderTheStairs · 03/11/2019 09:08

Yeah I think I’ll just look like Charlie Chaplin if I wear them with ankle boots. I’ve got big feet. And there still a cold gap.

I cannot see the appeal myself , I am of the generation that trouser hems wagging around your ankle were "half mast" and you'd outgrown them Hmm

I like to tuck my jeans into or over my boots .

Don't care if that's untrendy .

AppleKatie · 03/11/2019 09:14

You see they don’t look great in that picture and they would look exponentially worse with every CM round the waist of thigh.

They are just not flattering. I know it’s the trend. But resist! 🤣

My DD has long legs and ankle grazers are way too short on her. It's almost impossible to find any cheap jeans that are long enough.

nitgel · 03/11/2019 09:16

Pop socks Grin i might be harking back to the 80s but i quite like the sheer black tights with ankle grazers

1066vegan · 03/11/2019 09:21

I saw a pair of these for the first time today. I don't do a lot of clothes shopping so hadn't realised they were a thing. They look totally ridiculous. They remind me of the time that I put a pair of joggers on and hadn't realised that they'd shrunk in the wash.

madroid · 03/11/2019 09:21

Yes awful. As are wide legs trousers. Seriously unflattering to most shorter women or people like me with far too much extra weight.

Straight legs are best (bootcut were very flattering but not fashionable anymore).

BubblesBuddy · 03/11/2019 09:24

I wear pop socks with mine. Boots with a small heel are fine! Just make sure the trouser is close to the top of the boot. I’m tall and I’m not cold wearing them and the pix above looks great.

If you don’t like a trend, don’t buy it! Simples!

unfathomablefathoms · 03/11/2019 09:32

We used to have such anxiety about making sure our trousers were long enough, and then suddenly people started deliberately buying trousers that looked like they'd outgrown them. I don't get it at all!

Floisme · 03/11/2019 09:37

I love them but they're calf length in that pic which isn't ankle grazer to me. I like them top of the ankle length, just enough for a flash of skin. Once it's too cold I wear with a chunky lace up boot to close the gap. My ankles are the best part of my leg and I put up with skinnies being in fashion for 15 years so now this feels like my time.

Admittedly I'm short so it's fairly easy for me to find that length.

Hairydogmummy · 03/11/2019 09:49

I'm struggling with this too. I have nice7/8 wide leg trousers and ankle grazers but struggling to know how to avoid cold feet/ankles in winter. Will try pop socks I think...with shoes or ankle boots though? I think it looks weird with top of the boot kind of sitting on the bottom the trousers...

chalkyc2 · 03/11/2019 09:51

Love them - complete short arse here so they are actually the right length on me!!

VioletCharlotte · 03/11/2019 09:54

I actually really like ankle grazers, they seem to suit me quite well. I'm tall, so I wonder if that makes a difference.

LilyJade · 03/11/2019 10:20

Ankle grazers are perfect for me as I'm just over 5'3" haha

Cocolapew · 03/11/2019 10:24

I love them, I've spent years turning trousers up to ankle length.
I wear them with ankle or slightly above ankle boots or brogues with socks.
I look lovely so nah 😁

Fairylea · 03/11/2019 10:27

I hate all this as well.

My dd aged 16 says this is what separates the young and the old. She and her friends are all swaggering about with their ankles out, no socks, or those invisible trainer socks and chunky trainers or converse. With a Borg type bomber jacket thing. If I even attempt that look I’ll end up looking ridiculous. I can’t get my head around it being cold enough to wear a coat and yet having your ankles out.

FamilyOfAliens · 03/11/2019 10:30

No, apparently tucking them in is bang on trend, 70.

I have very skinny legs (not in a good way) so I don’t suit fitted trousers tucked into boots. I prefer looser, tapered trousers with chunky, flat shoes.
