Ankle grazers are rubbish

Particularly in winter. If you’ve got lovely ankles and don’t have a cold commute or live somewhere it rains maybe they are ok.

It’s hard to fin anything else though. How on earth are they sensible for real life?

My dd aged 16 says this is what separates the young and the old. She and her friends are all swaggering about with their ankles out, no socks,

If it puts her off you can tell her from me that the staff room at my work is full of teachers dressed like this 😱🤦‍♀️😂

Fairylea · 03/11/2019 10:43

@AppleKatie GrinGrin I will tell her. She’ll be shocked. Where we live (rural South Norfolk) all her teachers are wearing country casuals and walking / horsey type stuff.

AppleKatie · 03/11/2019 10:45

I think I need to swap schools 😂

BeatriceTheBeast · 03/11/2019 10:47

I love them, on other people.

I do turn up my jeans to show a small band of ankle when I wear them with my DM BOOTS! Bet you hate those too 😂! Sorry, not sorry.

But, yes, I do have slim, quite nice ankles. I am otherwise not slim at all and someone once commented that they didn't know how my ankles held the rest of me up 😒. So I quite like the ankle showing. I do not suit ankle graze trousers though.

I bought some from Boden (via eBay) and they do not really suit me. But I've seen many people looking fab in them.

But fashion is so subjective. There is no definitive right or wrong.

It is so annoying though, when you don't like or suit a certain style and the shops are full of it. Crop tops really don't suit me and I am tall, so it is really fucking annoying when all the tops in the shops are either cropped or made for short people. So I definitely sympathise.

DariaMorgendorffer · 03/11/2019 10:51

I love them!

Ahundredpercentthatbitch · 03/11/2019 10:54

You’ll have to tear my ankle grazers off my cold, dead body. I have short legs and a long body and ankle grazers make me look in proportion. If it’s cold, I wear knee-high pop socks underneath. You can get them in Waitrose.

CatUnderTheStairs · 03/11/2019 11:02

I’m not sure pop socks are enough to keep me warm. I’ve got to the age where I like a nice sock.

I like the look on other people but it’s the cold ankles that get me.

DMs love them but look like clown shoes on me.

I love ankle grazers as my ankles are the only slim part of me. They're crap in winter though as I can't pull them off with boots. It's just not a look i can get right.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 03/11/2019 12:04

They work for me. It's nice to get trousers that are a shorter length but normal proportions in the body.

CointreauVersial · 03/11/2019 12:15

I absolutely love them. I wore cropped trousers for years, and I couldn't be happier that it's the fashion at the moment. I cut/fold all my jeans to this length. It has to look "positive", though; ankle-grazers that are too long look like normal trousers that are too short, which isn't a great look!

I reckon a flash of ankle is flattering, and I never feel the cold; I wear brogues, ankle boots or trainers in the winter, and sandals, trainers or loafers/flats in the summer.

The only trousers I wear full-length are wide-leg tailored trousers, which I sometimes wear at work.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 03/11/2019 12:30

If it puts her off you can tell her from me that the staff room at my work is full of teachers dressed like this

You say that as if teachers can't be young and/or fashionable.

AppleKatie · 03/11/2019 12:33

No you misunderstand me.

I say that as if teachers are always old, frumpy and unfashionable in the mind of a 16 year old girl

As they should be. I obviously know the truth is different but I wasn’t really going for accurate portrayal...

DulciUke · 03/11/2019 12:48

I have absurdly fat ankles and live where it is cold half the year. Not for me. Bitterly envious of all those women with graceful thin legs, though.

Wonkybanana · 03/11/2019 14:23

As a short arse trousers that actually graze my ankles would make me look ridiculous. But they make fab full length trousers.

Thankssomuch · 03/11/2019 21:01

Love ‘em.

PersonaNonGarter · 03/11/2019 21:07

I love them. Plus socks on display.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 03/11/2019 21:11

Does anyone have any links to great ankle grazers? GrinWink

BillywigSting · 03/11/2019 21:12

I'm a short arse so like pp I love ankle grazers. They save me a fortune in tailoring.

Ditto the trend for mini dresses a few years ago, instead of being mid thigh they come to bang on my knee so I stocked up on them.

But otherwise yes I agree, they look utterly ridiculous and impractical.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/11/2019 21:57

Just wear socks? I have knee-high socks I wear under cropped trews, the best ones I’ve found for work are M&S school socks for girls which go up to shoe 4-7 I also have stripy and glittery socks for casual. The M&S ones come in grey, navy, and black.

Today I wore cropped black Levi’s 501s, sparkly silver socks, and DM Church boots. No cold ankles.

I'm the same Ahundredpercent as opposed to the current midi skirt/ trainer trend which makes me look squat & dumpy Hmm

evilharpy · 04/11/2019 08:48

I love ankle grazers. No soggy trouser cuffs when it's raining. No worrying about whether they hit your shoe/foot at exactly the right point to not frumpy. Look good with heels and ankle boots. I hope they never go out of fashion.

BubblesBuddy · 04/11/2019 09:02

If you want to know how to wear ankle grazers, just look at clothing web sites that sell them! It’s not that difficult. Zara, Cos, Arket, Poetry and many others have excellent examples for everyone to copy if you want to try a pair.

Winters are not that cold any more either. Just wear a pair of tights if it’s a bit frosty and then fur lined hiking boots! Be adventurous.

Totally agree about not wanting wet soggy trousers bottoms! I’m in my 60s and I’ve managed to embrace ankle grazers.

SpiderCharlotte · 04/11/2019 09:22

Oh they are awful.

ShiningInTheDark · 04/11/2019 09:26

I am so bored with ankle grazers, I'm tall so very often they are calf grazers - but most of all I'm bored with no choice, they have taken over.

MarshaBradyo · 04/11/2019 09:30

To the ankle is a great length but that pic is shorter
