This dress with these boots?

I have this dress which fits like a dream. I am not tall like the model so it sits mid calf on me. Can I wear it with these leopard boots? Or i wonder if i should get it shortened and wear it with my regular knee highs?

I think the original leopard print boots and dress would work.
Agree timberlands wouldn’t go with it.
Dress is gorgeous and ignore the horrible comments about the boots Wink

HyperemesisandPND · 01/11/2019 11:32

Right. The timberland boots I already have in two colours. I love them, wear them all the time with my regular daytime clothes and have had lots of compliments on them so they are obviously not hideous to everyone. Presumably they also work with my every day style and thankfully fit my slim legs without gaping like boats at the top.
Thank you so much for the helpful comments. After a rubbish couple of years it was so lovely to find a dress that makes me feel good about myself and gives me a little confidence. I dont know if I'll be able to keep it but I will try pinning it up and see how it looks and there are a couple of ideas for shoes here that I can look into so thank you for the help.

The dress is nice and the boots are nice- but the colours just don't go

HyperemesisandPND · 01/11/2019 11:34

Thank you lulubellablue. I'm still tempted to try those boots just out of curiosity although the general consensus seems to be that it's a dreadful idea!

Maybe something like this but with tights and a warmer jacket? (and minus the sunglasses)

I like the idea of leopard print with the dress but I think the shape of the boot isn't quite right. I think it needs to be a bit wider around the ankle and possibly a bit shorter.

Love the dress 😍

MrsMaiselsMuff · 01/11/2019 11:35

If you're looking for a similar but shorter dress look at Phase Eight or even M&S. I've got a few Phase 8 and they sit above my knee.

As a fellow shorty it's difficult to get midi length bodycon to work well, because it shortens the leg.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 01/11/2019 11:36

You could probably just about wear the leopard boots but others are right that they in combination with the dress will probably cut off at the wrong point to each other.
The other ones again not with that dress I don't think.

I would take the dress with you to town if you get a spare couple of hours and go somewhere like primark or other cheaper shops (shoezone etc) and try on lots of different shoes (in your budget) until you find ones you like and in the short term most ballet type shoes would go with it even if they are a bit boring and can give you what I call flappy feet! But they would do until you find something you really like.

Once you have found the styles of shoes you really like then you can search ebay until you find a good deal.

I assume part of the issue is like me you don't like or want any type of heel? That I have found really cuts the amount of shoes you can find that go well with some dresses. It's so annoying!

CravingCheese · 01/11/2019 11:38

I'd wear the timberlands with jeans and a blazer/jacket.... Or opaque tights and a chunky pullover dress, maybe?

I don't think they're hideous. Not my colour but still fine... 🤷🏻‍♀️
(but one mustn't argue about style, right?)

AmIThough · 01/11/2019 11:38

@HyperemesisandPND if you're going to try the leopard print boots try them with black tights

KondoKonvert · 01/11/2019 11:39

^^dress would look great styled as that pic @CravingCheese

CravingCheese · 01/11/2019 11:39

Or about taste. Wink

(goodness, I'm tired.)

CravingCheese · 01/11/2019 11:43

@KondoKonvert

Right? Would look 'dressed down' (as the OP wants) but still stylish... (well, imo.)

HyperemesisandPND · 01/11/2019 11:49

cravingcheese that lady looks great and it is the sort of casual look I was aiming for. You've pretty much summed up how I wear my timberlands there as well. That's basically my everyday style. I dont want to argue about style or taste. I was just hoping for some ideas and opinions on what might work.
ginky you are right about not wanting heels. I have spent the last four years in flats pregnant or running round after babies and toddlers. I'm completely out of practice wearing heels and so I need something that I can wear with this dress on an evening out and maybe if I'm lucky get away with it for day to day wear as well. Evenings out are few and far between so it's an expensive dress for one night. It wont be a massively dressy night so making the dress more casual is important for that reason as well. I guess I just fell in love with the dress on me and I really really want to make it work if I can.
mrsmaisel I will have a look at the places you've suggested for dresses also.

@HyperemesisandPND Oasis has some lovely pleather jackets at the mo. They come in black, khaki and burgundy I think!

CravingCheese · 01/11/2019 12:17

The dress is lovely and (as you said) fits you really well. There's no reason why you shouldn't manage to make this work!

My feet have been feeling so uncomfortable (pregnant) that I don't even want to think about wearing heels. 😅😅
(Loafefs, oxfords and lately also winterboots are currently my go tos. With skirts, jeans, trousers...😅)

I hope you get to enjoy your dress. 👍

ShagMeRiggins · 01/11/2019 12:36

I do t see a problem with the boots and dress colour-wise. To me, leopard print is a neutral anyway.

But I would have the dress shortened to length as shown, or maybe slightly above the knee.

And wear with a slick bomber jacket. Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 01/11/2019 12:37

*don’t see, that should say

Also, I’d be thrilled to look good in that dress. It’s lovely.

Katrinawaves · 01/11/2019 13:01

How about some leopard print trainers. These ones are in the sale for £10 at Selfridges online and would dress it down nicely

HyperemesisandPND · 01/11/2019 13:48

I really like those trainers katrinawaves. They could be worth a try.
I'll look at the jackets kondo.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/11/2019 15:24

I don't think the Timerland boots would go with it, but think the leopard print ones should be okay. Agree that it could also work with trainers and a leather jacket. You could also try a slouchy jumper over it, if you want to dress it down.

HyperemesisandPND · 01/11/2019 18:19

Ok I've tried to take some non identifying photos. What do you think to the dress? How does it look best? Then I can choose shoes that will work. Apologies for the bathroom mess behind me.

KondoKonvert · 01/11/2019 18:33

Cambionome · 01/11/2019 18:35
