Is Cath Kidston EVER acceptable?

Monipop84 · 30/10/2019 12:22

Considering a bag for DD's baby swimming (on accounts that some of the prints are kiddish, and the bags seem practical). I just don't know whether it would still look massively naff, even if it would effectively be a "baby bag".

No. Never.

historysock · 30/10/2019 12:24

Nope

Bluerussian · 30/10/2019 12:26

Why would a bag made from Kath Kidston fabric be naff? It's pretty.

Happityhap · 30/10/2019 12:26
Grin If I couldn't find another practical bag then, yes, I'd tolerate it.
Theimpossiblegirl · 30/10/2019 12:28

If you like it, it's acceptable.

JacquesHammer · 30/10/2019 12:28

Acceptable to whom? Confused

If you like it, buy it.

keepingbees · 30/10/2019 12:28

They're a bit twee for me but as a baby/swimming bag it would be fine

Happityhap · 30/10/2019 12:30

Oops, I was thinking of Orla Kiely. Can't stand that stuff.
Some of the CK stuff is all right.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/10/2019 12:33

If you like it, get it, enjoy. Tis personal taste, innit. We can't all like the same things. Some of the prints I like, some not so much. It doesn't matter what other people think. Have faith in your personal choices! The Style Police can't touch you for it Halloween Wink

applepineapple · 30/10/2019 12:35

I have a green spotty bag which I use for weekends away but not fussed on the floral or 'fussy' patterns

youngestisapsycho · 30/10/2019 12:39

I like some of their prints... but not with a Cath Kidston label on it!

youngestisapsycho · 30/10/2019 12:40

They're not cheap either. There must be other bags that can be used just for swimming....

june2007 · 30/10/2019 12:50

Babies in the nursery where I work have them. I think there cute. I more practically minded though, so my first thort is will it do the job.

ThreeLittleDots · 30/10/2019 12:50

Of course it's acceptable if it suits and is practical. Stuff anyone else.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 30/10/2019 12:53

Cath Kidston is never acceptable? Wow, must have missed that memo.

Jumblebee · 30/10/2019 13:01

If you like the bag, buy the bag. Why does it matter what random people on mumsnet think is acceptable or not? There seems to be lots of hatred of Cath Kidston on mumsnet because it's very "twee", but wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all liked the same thing?

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/10/2019 13:04

i wouldn't personally want one but for the DC maybe? I think they're overpriced though so unless the DC in question specifically loved it I wouldn't bother. As we're talking about a baby- I think it only really matters whether you like it OP, and whether it's worth the money vs just buying something cheaper/bog standard.

FriedasCarLoad · 30/10/2019 13:06

Buy it.

Then remember that adults don’t need other adults to approve of their appearance - we’re not teenagers any more!Grin

PurpleFrames · 30/10/2019 13:25

You can get very similar copies for much less online- go for it :)

HidingInTheKitchen · 30/10/2019 13:30

Cath Kidston is never acceptable? Wow, must have missed that memo

Me too! What's wrong with Cath Kidston??

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/10/2019 13:32

If you like it, buy it. That really should be all that matters.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/10/2019 13:33

And listen to Frieda, who is clearly very intelligent and ought to run for prime minister.

Monipop84 · 30/10/2019 14:16

Thanks everyone for your replies. I appreciate that everyone should wear what they want - my question stemmed from the fact that I think CK is really a brand for children/teenagers. Can I wear it? Of course. But I don't think it would be that stylish. Hence a question in the "style" forum!

Would a teenager be seen dead in Cath Kidston?

Honeybee85 · 30/10/2019 14:21

I live in Asia, they are massively popular here.
I don’t think they are that bad, but very very overpriced. If you like that style, perhaps Pip Studio is a nice suggestion?
