OK. I won’t “overthink”. Feminism can be about little things not just big ones, though. And “tradition” is often a very effective mask for misogyny. And there was a woman in jeans and trainers among the “welcoming committee” at the glacier.

Loved rhe green and gold, by the way. The fabric was so floaty and pretty.

Laiste · 17/10/2019 12:54

I'd do it. It's a wonderful chance to wear some beautiful and a bit different in an appropriate place where it's going to be appreciated.

I agree that it's nice to see that William wore a traditional outfit, and maybe we'll see him do it again, but thinking about it i feel it would look a bit too much if both of them did it all of the time.

Laiste · 17/10/2019 12:55

something

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/10/2019 12:56

I love that Kate is wearing Pakistani clothes.
I think everything she has worn this trip has suited her and is an extension of her personal style.
I just feel that today’s green outfit is “wearing her”, hence my comment that it looks a bit “costumey”. Perhaps the wrong choice if words....
The outfit per se is very pretty; just not very Kate

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/10/2019 12:58

I’m going to back track.
Up,close, it looks good. Quite an iconic look

Laiste · 17/10/2019 12:59

Perhaps it's because it's the 'complete look' curly. The whole head covered, full trousers and bare foot - in a rather strong green and gold.

Laiste · 17/10/2019 12:59

Up close it looks blue as well! Grin

Laiste · 17/10/2019 13:02

We do only have these photos to go on. Things nearly always look different in the flesh.

In a close up we can see her face clearly and she looks less swamped by it.

Yes, i can see this photo of this outfit being one of the iconic ones of the trip.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 17/10/2019 13:04

While gorgeous today, it is also a bit Blessed Virgin.
I prefer cigarette style trousers on her.

Laiste · 17/10/2019 13:05

Love her or hate her, Diana was the one for iconic shots though. There's been no one ever come close to the same caliber or sheer number of iconic moments and images that her presence produced.

Horsemad · 17/10/2019 13:07

Gorgeous outfits today, I really like them.

I agree with you, @HepburnKNotA - the likeness between Diana & Kate struck me yesterday in a photo I saw online. Never really noticed it before!

Laiste · 17/10/2019 13:10

I see a likeness between Meghan and Harry. I find that fascinating.

Not sure about Kate and Diana.

queenofarles · 17/10/2019 13:21

And there was a woman in jeans and trainers among the “welcoming committee” at the glacier.
Maybe she thought I’d better bring out my jeans for the western princessWink while Kate thought the opposite,
You really need to stop over analyzing everything Bertrand

In India women wear skinny jeans with traditional tops.

I know that these are supposed to be fun light hearted threads
sometimes we need to realize that the world doesn’t revolve around western concepts and beliefs, we need to respect other nations traditions . I feel sometimes the west is too harsh in judging nations that’s are different and are in the look out for any tiny differences just to point them out.

whitershadeofpale · 17/10/2019 13:22

I just saw this in the DM about how Meghan's wedding makeup was done, apparently the artist was on Lorraine this morning, which I found interesting as when I listened to a podcast with Hannah Martins recently, she said she wasn't allowed to say which weddings she'd worked on but it was heavily hinted that it was DoS, DoC and Eugenie.

Generally I think Meghan's makeup always looks great if a touch dull, but I don't think it was at it's best on her wedding day, the eyeliner was messy and I think she could have done with a touch more blusher (which is odd as she usually favours a strong blusher/ highlighter).

Laiste · 17/10/2019 13:25

@queenofarles i must agree.

It's quite possible that Kate's thought YES! I get to wear all those lovely clothes in all those fabrics and William's thought Gawd, i feel a right prat in those cigarette shape trouser things but i'll do it once.

That's how it would go down in our house Grin

BlingLoving · 17/10/2019 13:30

I don't understand why a relatively mild comment by Bertrand provokes so much irritation (and it's not the first time).

It's not an unreasonable question to ask and it's certainly not like she's ranting about it or accusing William or Kate of anything. It's a mildly asked question in passing in the context of two very famous and influential people visiting another country on behalf of Britain.

And for the record, I also wonder why William couldn't wear the odd more traditional dress too eg for the trip to the Mosque. I don't find it offensive that he doesn't, but I do think it would be nice if he did.

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 13:38

@BertrandRussell it’s not at all a criticism. I don’t disagree with you that the little things matter too. But I’ve learned, from the perspective of an over thinker with a tendency toward seeing patterns and connections everywhere, and for the sake of preserving my sanity, that I need to pick my battles and that I must conserve my ire and mental energy for the battles that really matter. You may not be at that stage yet, or you may never reach it (some people are a lot more resilient than I am).

@BlingLover it’s really not ‘so much irritation’, is it. It’s a few very mild replies. No one has been aggressive, nor personal about it. It’s perfectly fine to have dissenting views or opinions as part of a generally convivial discussion.

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2019 13:38

“ I feel sometimes the west is too harsh in judging nations that’s are different and are in the look out for any tiny differences just to point them out.”
Eh? Hmm

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 17/10/2019 13:39

I don't understand why a relatively mild comment by Bertrand provokes so much irritation (and it's not the first time).

I’ve noticed it too. Nobody can say anything negative about K&W or anything positive about M&H. It’s a discussion board. People can say whatever they like. Bertrand raises good points x

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 13:41

I can certainly say that I am very much prone to over-analysis, and that there’s a time and a place for it but I’d rather it wasn’t here, which is where I come for some light relief and hopefully for some respite from the utter shitness happening around us daily.

Bertrand is, of course, allowed to say whatever the hell she likes and not to take any notice of my particular expectations of this thread!

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 13:43

What?? Now that’s just ridiculous. Many of us say many positive things about Meghan and/or Harry.

Fuck off with that. I really resent that. And don’t x me either ffs.

If you’re going to say things then please make sure they’re accurate.

purplepalace · 17/10/2019 13:44

I love that she's wearing traditional dress, I'd jump at the chance to wear those beautiful traditional outfits if I was her. What fun she must've had with her stylist planning her wardrobe for this tour.

William...not so much, if he's anything like my DH he's probably just thrown a few suits in a suitcase prior to them leaving for the airport Grin

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 13:45

And I’m not going to apologise for the aggression of saying fuck off with that. It’s patently untrue and further, has nothing at all to do with what Bertrand said.

paradyning · 17/10/2019 13:57

Kate really suits that green colour. The veil really frames her face too.

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2019 14:02

Sorry everyone! All I said was that I think it’s a bit shit that Kate is expected to wear “traditional” dress all the time and William isn’t! And I do still think it’s a bit shit. And that is not a criticism of K&W because I am sure it wasn't their decision. But I do think that if the FO advised K to wear traditional dress then W should have done the same. But I didn’t mean to cause any discord. As you were.
