The salwars do look great on Kate, helps that she's so tall and willowy.

Today’s clothes are Nothing special , but appropriate, she really does suit shalwars though

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 10:15

I thought Kate’s mountain outfit was fitting to the occasion and fine in itself. Maybe a bit ‘eccentric country chic’ but I quite like that. But I’m in the minority, I think, in being fairly easy to please. I like the silk skirt and would wear it myself.

Agree that some things that some people might deem rude or arrogant, like whether or not one salutes or speaks to an individual, are actually matters of protocol and/or convention. Likewise with Kate’s engagement or perceived lack of - there are customs and conventions that they will try to respect and reflect on visits like this.

Love today’s cream outfit. I agree, the cigarette/tunic style really does suit her and I hope she takes inspiration from it for further outfits at home.

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2019 10:17

Do you think the way William and Harry dress is some sort of subconscious rebellion against their father? I can’t think of any other explanation!

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 10:19

Oh, forgot to mention my little interesting fact for today:

Willem-Alexander flew the plane to India for his and Max’s tour, as co-pilot. He has flown with KLM as a ‘guest pilot’ when his schedule allows for over 20 years.

AudacityOfHope · 17/10/2019 10:29

I think they just dress like modern young/middle-aged men and PC has always been much more formal in style.

UrsulaPandress · 17/10/2019 10:35

Is it Shalwar or Salwar?

I agree, Kate could really rock some trouser suits in the UK.

Lovely photos of them both in Lahore. I don't like kate's shoes though either! Why choose heels with an outfit like that? It looks all wrong and quite uncomfortable.

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2019 10:54

Does anyone know the significance of the scarf on the shoulder? Is it a symbolic veil or something?

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 10:57

Heels are fine - see woman in strappy heeled shoes pictured next to Kate. It’s just that Kate’s shoes don’t do anything for the outfit. A nice, bright colour would have been nice (or at least some bling), and maybe a strappy shoe rather than a court.

GoFiguire · 17/10/2019 11:14

She is pretending to be Judi Dench @BertrandRussell

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 11:21

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dupatta

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 11:23

A nod to traditional dress, and as far as I understand it, the style worn by Kate is a more recent fashion driven reworking of the original.

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2019 11:29

Dupatta shop. Isn’t it fabulous?

Nod to “modest dress” too Hmm

I agree that the Shalwar Kameez really suits Kate. She looks comfortable and elegant - I think the shape and the fabric help. I do hope she's reading this thread and goes shopping for some trouser suits and 'cigarette pants'.

Great picture of her at the cricket academy.

White to a cricket match. Of course. Grin

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2019 12:07

So nice to see her walking barefoot- shows that it would be OK for her to wear flats sometimes and still look great.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/10/2019 12:11

William looks great i his white suit and black tie.
Kate’s green outfit is a bit too costumey for my taste. I don’t like the gold embroidery

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 12:18

I think the green outfit is beautiful, in keeping and looks gorgeous on her. I wouldn’t personally wear gold embroidery like that but it makes sense within the culture she’s visiting. It isn’t costumey, it’s what they wear.

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2019 12:20

I still hate that Kate is expected to wear “national dress” while William just wears his ordinary clothes.

Ninkaninus · 17/10/2019 12:24

Perhaps she likes wearing national dress. Perhaps she understands that it is considered by many a great compliment that she wears it. They are beautiful clothes and she looks gorgeous in them. Whatever William wears it’s still just going to be trousers and a top, at the end of the day. I did think he looked great the other day though! As far as I’m concerned he should wear things like that more often!

(Deliberately keeping it light - I’m not in the mood for arguing everything through the feminist lens, and I’ve got more pressing issues to worry about when it comes to women’s rights and protections)

queenofarles · 17/10/2019 12:46

Adding to that Ninkaninus a lot of Pakistani men And men from other ME countries do wear “western clothes” . trousers shirts blazers, but some women still prefer to wear traditional clothes or cloaks.
Some western women feel out of place wearing clothes they normally wear back home in Islamic countries and prefer to blend in rather than stick out, some do love the clothes.
No need to over think it,

She seems happy , they are more than happy to see her wearing traditional clothes. Let’s leave it to that.
