Hi guys,
I love browsing the what are you wearing today thread but being plussize (Size 26) I often can't take inspiration from it. I wondered if any other size 18+ would like to share what they are wearing today?

Love it divebar!

But I prefer the neck on the other one. Nothing is ever just right is it?

NancyEspana · 26/10/2019 23:21

Sorry, but that is purely from my own perspective, as I suit v necks better than anything else. Obviously, you are probably not the same shape as I am.

Divebar · 27/10/2019 00:40

Ha ha. That’s ok I don’t take it personally.... we all like what we like. V necks are more flattering on big boobs I find but I love slash necks and boats necks from a personal point of view. Sometimes I make the choice which is less conventionally flattering but more personally pleasing.

Divebar I love what you said above. I found and still find myself picking and wearing clothes not because I really like them because I feel they are flattering and not picking things I love because they aren't flattering. But I've working really hard to get into the mentality of wearing whatever makes me happy.

Totally agree with you divebar. Wise words!

Now, tell me straight lads... does it just look as if I've not remembered to untuck my t-shirt?

Excuse the wrinkly skirt. It's been in a suitcase!

T-shirt - Hush, L, fairly recently - in the summer
Skirt - Dorothy Perkins, 16, also in the summer
Tights - Snag, E, recently

Probably going to wear with DM boots or wellies and a jumper.

defeatthedebt I can clearly remember the Trinny & Susannah programmes which really were all about correcting perceived flaws. As a result of that I spent a number of years only wearing A line skirts for example because I had a big bum which apparently needed disguising. I didn’t wear horizontal stripes even though I really really wanted a Breton top. Then one day I just decided I didn’t have to follow these rules. So for me it’s definitely a trade off... I still won’t wear sleeveless tops in the summer because of my arms so I’m not completely liberated but I wear pencil skirts and horizontal stripes and undoubtedly break loads of other “rules” but if it makes me feel fabulous then I go for it. As plus size we too often we settle for second rate because we don’t believe we deserve our place in the world.

Divebar · 27/10/2019 08:37

Nancy I really want to pull it down at the side...... can you tuck it in a bit ( French tuck ?) or is that not working? It’s probably easier with a button shirt rather than a T shirt tbh

NancyEspana · 27/10/2019 09:01

Oh I love the instant feedback! Thanks divebar. It's like having a friend to ask about outfits. DH hates advising me on clothes!

How about now?

YY, op, and divebar. I also have just recently stopped dressing by Trinny and Susannah style rules and it has definitely made me feel LESS self conscious. I think because I'm dressing to please myself if that makes sense.

Also, I think in years gone by, I didn't dress to look stylish, I dressed (and I'm actually a bit ashamed to admit this) to look attractive. Now I'm aiming for stylish / cool (as far as I can achieve that) not pretty in a conventional way iyswim. Whether I achieve it or not is debatable obviously Halloween Wink.

Looks nice Nancy! Would possibly also look nice tucked in, you've got a lovely waist!

NancyEspana · 27/10/2019 09:53

Thanks sillybillybandy Halloween Smile. I will try it tucked in all the way round. Of course, all this agonising I'm doing, over the tuck, is probably a bit pointless as no doubt I'll be covered up most of the day. It's good to try it out though and get some opinions. Thanks!

AnnastaciasMum · 27/10/2019 10:08

I used to be in jeans and a top all the time - then I found these new tights Snagtights.
OMG. Now I'm ordering skirts from ebay left right and centre because I can actually wear tights without chub rub shorts and without pain. I'm a 24, so I struggle visualising nice clothes on me - but now I can wear these tights and skirts are so much more an option. No more jeans that dig into my fat rolls... I might actually be able to move around more now that I've got comfier clothes that don't rub or trap my leg fat, and I might lose some weight!

NowWeSuckingDiesel · 27/10/2019 10:23

We are quite philosophical this morning! I love what you said Divebar and i am trying to do this but old 'what not to wear' rules still sit like a devil on my shoulder. I love nancy experimenting with different tucks and i think french tuck or all tucked (had to be careful how i wrote that) looks lovely on you Nancy, I'm not brave enough to tuck yet but I'm slowly dressing for what i like not what i think covers a multitude of sins. I remember reading sometime ago how a long cardigan or baggy jumper does not miraculously become an invisibility cloak when it goes on a plus size body, the body is still plus sized but now shapeless and frumpy too. I'm trying to get away from this although i think part of my problem is that having regained all the weight i previously lost, I'm embarrassed. I don't want to look like i failed at being slim and so i tell myself that big clothes will not make look as big as i am, actually typing that out has made me realize just how incredibly stupid that is!

It's thanks to you all showing your lovely outfits and the excitement in finding clothes, (snag tights!) that allow you to dress as you like not as you feel you 'should'

I love this threadSmile

AnnastaciasMum · 27/10/2019 10:32

@Defeatthedebt Yeah they really are.

I have the fattest legs - chub rub to bad it bled so I always lived in trousers. I bought two pairs just to try - was so impressed I ordered 5 more. Only bought the black and the grey so far, but will get more colours when I can. Totally amazed by them. They're wide as well as long in size, so fit really well. Trousers are a rarity for me, now.

cerys · 27/10/2019 11:13

Hello ladies I have been lurking here for a few weeks but I wanted to say how supportive and kind you all are.

I am 50, menopausal and have piled on weight the last couple of years. I don’t know what I weigh but reckon it’s 15 or 16 stone. I am 5’5” and all my weight now goes on my stomach. I was always pear shaped but now look pregnant. I usually wear anything from a 20 to a 24.

I’ve spent most of my adult life carrying a little extra weight and thinking I was fat. And now I really am and I wish I could tell my younger self how silly I was being and how lovely I was.

The Trinny and Susannah posts have got me thinking. I think I still have their rules in my head when I choose clothes.
I tend to wear jeans and tunics with the occasional dress. Wrap dresses used to suit me but now I look like a sack of potatoes with a belt! If I find the right size swing dress they are ok but I tend to buy too big (always shop online) and then look like I’m in a maternity smock.

Anyway, inspired by this lovely thread, I wore a Breton stripe top, denim skirt, tights and boots the other evening and I felt good. Out of my comfort zone but good.

Papergirl1968 · 27/10/2019 11:15

Ohh Nancy, I’m not a regular on here but just saw your photos and had to remark on what lovely slim arms and legs you have, especially your ankles.

PersianStar · 27/10/2019 11:18

I’m so happy I have found this thread!
I’m 36, size 14ish with an 11 month old and I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to be wearing, what suits me and what is even “current”
It’s gotten so bad that I have spent the last few days in tears because I can’t face leggings and a jumper again so I’ve stayed in my jamas
But there is light at the end of my tunnel.... OH has decided we are having a shopping spree day because he just can’t cope with the waterworks any longer Blush
So thank you ladies, seeing you all looking fab had given me a boost (and ideas)

numberonecook · 27/10/2019 12:14

Ooo I didn’t know there was a plus sized version of this thread!

Todays a cleaning the house and chilling day. I’m a size 18 and I’m wearing black M&S jeggings, an aerosmith tshirt and a chunky grey cardigan from next. This is teamed with wool knitted socks from Etsy and primark slippers Grin

Will keep watching with interest lol

Divebar · 27/10/2019 12:20

Nancy - I think you can tuck in my lovely.

Hey Persianstar - glad to see you. I hope the shopping goes well

Cerys - I was in a charity shop near closing time and I found a black jersey dress from Scarlet & Jo for £8. It was closing time so I just grabbed it without trying it. When I got home I discovered it was a size 26 ( on an 18 hanger) so I gave it to my friend at work who is that size and is maybe 5’4”. My god that is a flattering dress and she wears it when she goes out for drinks - every time I think “ god damitt.... that’s a good dress”. It’s a fit n flare which is very flattering over the boobs. She wears it with cardigans and flats but it’s so versatile you could dress it up much more if you wanted. I think Scarlett & Jo are good at that style generally but jersey is so versatile.

NancyEspana · 27/10/2019 13:13

divebar, aw I thought you'd posted something outrageous Halloween Wink! Thanks again for your advice. I'm tucking!

Thanks so much paper! My lower legs and forearms are quite wee, but chunky at the tops of both. Rather like a ham in that regard 😂.

Hello to cerys, persian and numberone! This thread is lovely and so many outfit ideas and help.

NancyEspana · 27/10/2019 14:28

I also like that quote. I remember reading a tip about this and it was to think about the people you love most in the world or even the ones you really like. List the things you love most about them. Is it ever their weight?

BTW, sorry if this is a derail and if it is, please tell me to Foxtrot Oscar and I'll ask somewhere else.

I'm hunting for a healthy eating thread on here which is not to do with weight loss? Like a healthy eating / healthy habits thread, rather than weight loss? Has anyone seen anything like that on here?

Obviously the health kick will start in earnest AFTER holiday Halloween Wink.

3dogs2cats · 27/10/2019 15:02

NancyEspana, I would love it if this thread did healthy eating too. Feels really safe here

NancyEspana · 27/10/2019 15:26

I know what you mean 3dogs!

I'd be happy to start a thread somewhere else, like in chat maybe? And then I'll link to it here if nobody minds and then anyone who wants to join from here can do..?

3dogs2cats · 27/10/2019 16:06

That sounds good. I do need to lose weight in order to not have prediabetes, but I am failing on the dieting front. Diet was fairly healthy, but a number of factors conspired against me. So now it is all about those long term changes, a bar of chocolate being lovely, 3 bars less good. I love this thread, so should mention that I’m wearing dark skinny jeans from Tk Max, khaki T-shirt from John Lewis and a mustard boyfriend cardi from Brakeburn. I kind of disagree with the big cardi thoughts up thread. I love them whatever size I am, and I love them on Skinny Dd too, comfortable, easy to get on and off and work very well for apple shapes who always come untucked and look a bit shit in the middle.
