When I was about 17 1983/84 used to walk through Debenhams for a spray of this ! But can't remember it's name , it was quite a strong spicy kind of scent in a burgundy slim sort of angular bottle with a gold lid and I think some black vertical line on the bottle ? I can Remember Rive Gauche (sp) and Je Reviens being popular at the same time but can't find anything like this on google ! It's driving me mad

Cross post. Glad you solved the mystery.

DaisySaffron · 06/10/2019 19:54

YSL Rive Gauche was a black & turquoise metal atomiser. Could it be Samsara or even the Elizabeth Arden Fifth Avenue NYC. The other fragrance house is Lancome perfumes? Can't think of a fragrance but Tresor atm...

4ml vintage on its way !! Will report back :)
Any one who loves spicy orientals I recommend Halfeti by penhaligons :))
Samples keep popping through my letterbox lol ;)

This thread as reminded me of my two favourite 80's fragrances. Audace & Forever Krystal. Anyone remember these?

Sarahandco · 06/10/2019 23:16

bodyshop Dewberry! I would love to smell that again!

HaileySherman · 06/10/2019 23:46

Estee Lauder Dazzling Gold was my absolute FAVORITE! So sad it was discontinued.....why oh why? Lol. Never found another I've love even close to that.

cathyno5 · 06/10/2019 23:59

I've enjoyed remembering all these perfumes I'd forgotten!

I still wear Rive Gauche. People often comment on it because I think it smells quite unusual compared to a lot of modern perfumes. I love it

MovinOnUp · 07/10/2019 00:17

I came on to say Rafinee :) First bottle of perfume I ever bought for myself.
OP If yours is the real deal, Would you post the link please?

itsaldramarama · 07/10/2019 10:30

@MovinOnUp I bought it off eBay but I also found this , tempted but I need to smell it first to see if I still love it

@Sarahandco If you liked Dewberry, then try Shay & Blue Blueberry Musk. It immediately reminded me of Dewberry!

Whatsitlike · 07/10/2019 13:59

If they are old stock, the fragrance will of changed and will not smell the same, even the re released ones.

I bought a re released Aqua Manda (?) and it smells nothing like the original.

MissBattleaxe · 07/10/2019 15:01

@Whatsitlike sometimes old juice can smell amazing if it's been stored away from light and heat. Modern versions, such as Prism will have similarities but will have different notes and ingredients post IFRA and also for reasons of cost. It's a gamble. You might like the new version, you might not. Only one way to find out! I have a 50 year old bottle of Jolie Madame that still smells incredible.

Lorr73 · 07/10/2019 16:06

Is it Yves Rocher Yria?

Mommywifebusdriver · 07/10/2019 16:08

Is it Lauren. By Ralph Lauren

AlexaAmbidextra · 07/10/2019 16:29

This thread is making me nostalgic. I loved Cinnabar.

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/10/2019 16:38

Ooh the nostalgia! I used to wear Cinnabar and my boyfriend wore Aramis. You could smell us coming before we came into view.

I also used to wear Halston (still do) and something by Jovan called Sex Appeal for Women, which no-one else seems to remember. Ahh, the scents of my slapper youth and the Shagging Years...

Thankssomuch · 07/10/2019 20:26

Hold on... before you head off, are you sure it wasn’t Barynia by Helen Rubinstein?

StCharlotte · 07/10/2019 21:02

And Cinnabar - warm and spicy?

That's a blast from the past- I wore Cinnabar for a good decade.

Lily1811 · 08/10/2019 19:53

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 09/10/2019 01:28

I used to love Audace Claire ‘make a statement without saying a word’ was the advert if I remember correctly!

slinkysaluki · 10/10/2019 02:43

My mum used to wear Raffinée, still remember the smell. Tabu she wire as well

Fozzleyplum · 10/10/2019 02:58

I still love and wear (sparingly!) 80's spicy scents. I have Opium, Cinnabar, Youth Dew and Rive Gauche. I can't find any modern ones I like as much.
