Bit of a boring one - NICE SOAP

StrangersToLove · 05/10/2019 11:04

Have recently switched to using soap instead of shower gel, but finding the range of bog standard soap scents a bit uninspiring compared to shower gel.

Can anyone recommend a nice tange of scented soap? I can only think of body shop fruit ones from my youth, but haven't been in body shop for ages so not even sure if they still do them.

L'Occitane
Di Palomo

I find TK Maxx stock to be variable. I think they stock things that hang around in warehouses for months if not years. I got all excited when I first switched to soap and bought some big Italian 250g bars from them, but they were all very weakly scented and very harsh on my skin.

That said, sometimes I find Australian brands in my local TK Maxxes and they can be pretty good. So proceed but with caution, I'd say.

I've switched too OP and now I'm hooked on Neal's Yard soaps Smile there are some lovely smells and they dont leave me with dry skin like others. Also love L'Occitane but the fragrance doesn't last like the Neal's Yard does.

wonkylegs · 05/10/2019 12:00

TKMaxx or Sainsbury's have some nice own brand luxury ones

I miss Crabtree & Evelyn bar soap. I have a decent stash from when they marked everything down to go out of business, but it’s dwindling rapidly.

TheCanterburyWhales · 05/10/2019 12:10

That's the name I was thinking of- I didn't realise they'd gone out of business. Their rosewater and glycerine was amazing.

DirtyDeeds · 05/10/2019 12:12

Oooh I love the Penhaligons Halfeti soap 🙊

IncrediblySadToo · 05/10/2019 12:19

I love olive oil soap, I bring quite a few bars back from Provence each summer, & scatter them through my chest of drawers. It’s the small things in life 😊

I like it because it’s all vegetable and even the scented ones don’t irritate my bits as some of the others do.

You can order it online.

Garden centres, national trust garden shops.

64sNewName Crabtree's avocado soap smelled lovely

LavenderAndBeeswax · 05/10/2019 12:28

Also C&E's goat milk soap was lovely

vdbfamily · 05/10/2019 12:29

I have been looking for soap bars not wrapped in plastic and found some lovely 300g bars in TKMaxx. If you look in their reduced stuff there is often soap and the bars I got were £2 each and smell great. I wish I had got more for my present box

Parsimon · 05/10/2019 12:32

Bronnley. Every time. I always pick some up in the sales after Christmas and they are such high quality soaps that they last for ages and never get soft. They are expensive at full price, but as I’ll wash my hands several times a day I don’t mind paying more for the better quality.

dontgobaconmyheart · 05/10/2019 12:47

Agree Nesti Dante is nice- lovely creamy lather and lasts forever (almost a bad thing as I get bored of it!) but I do have to moisturise well if I use it all over. It's better if you can smell them in person though as the scents I thought I'd love I didn't. You can easily smell them through the packet, they're very fragranced!

TheHumanSatsuma · 05/10/2019 12:54

Another TKMaxx soap fan.
They do beautifully wrapped Italian soaps. £3.99. A bar lasts me 3-4 months. They have all sorts of different scents, subtle but gorgeous.
I was given a cranberry one at Christmas.

ElspethFlashman · 05/10/2019 14:16

Aaaah Nesti Dante, or Nasty Denty as I always seem to call it. 😁

I am a TK Maxx devotee but another good tip is to go on the posh sites like Selfridges and look for soap and you get some absolute crackers from the big beauty houses. Not just Diptyque etc but for example a bar of Chanel soap that'll last you a year and will likely be one of the cheaper products in the whole line.

Soap is a great way of buying a designer fragrance you really like at a more palatable price.

NannyR · 05/10/2019 14:26

I love the nesti danti soaps, my favourite scents are the villages and monasteries, fig and almond and a coconut/frangipani one (I can't remember what it's called, it smells lovely and not strongly coconutty).
I've occasionally found a nice soap at tkmaxx but a lot of the ones I have tried haven't been great - they tend to be very fancily packaged but the fragrance wears off quickly, and like a lot of stuff on sale there they are brands never heard of outside of tkmaxx or old stock.

PiedImperial · 05/10/2019 14:27

You can definitely cut Nesti Dante soaps in half quite easily - that's exactly what I do with mine. Even half a bar lasts for ages!

I am actually looking forward to finishing my current half, though, so I can try out some of these suggestions - there are so many lovely soaps out there!

FamilyOfAliens · 05/10/2019 14:31

I’ve always used bar soap. Can’t get on with hand wash or shower gel and can’t bear the waste of plastic.

I got a couple of the Nesti ones after reading the recommendations on here. When I tried to cut them the soap around the cut broke into little shards, even though I used my sharpest Sabatier knife.

How do other people avoid this?

DotBall · 05/10/2019 14:46

I use Bronnley soaps. Excellent quality, especially the boxed sets of 3. Sweet Pea is my current favourite. The scent lasts right to the end.

Ktay · 05/10/2019 15:02

If you’re near a Waitrose, the Senspa soaps are lovely and currently on offer, making them about £2.60 a bar. I like the lavender one.

GeorgeTheFirst · 05/10/2019 15:06

The body shop still do soap and I like their fragrances for everyday. Not as special as some mentioned on here.

Also simple is fine if dull.

Steamfan · 05/10/2019 15:13

Bronnley Lemon soap is lovely - also their Herbarium soaps, gorgeous!

Nesti Dante- I buy mine from Amazon-the Cypress one is absolutely wonderful with 'Villages and Monasteries' a close second They might seems expensive but they are big bars and they last a long time with the smell staying true throughout
