Ugg Slippers?

Between4and30character · 21/09/2019 18:51

Any good? I liked my old Ugg boots but I walk funny and they never lasted long.

I dont wear shoes in the house so was looking for something I can have beside the door to chuck on if I need to go outside therefore something with an actual sole and comfortable enough that I can keep them on indoors if its chilly.

Is there anything better than Uggs? They're alot of money on my budget...

We use croc type shoes for nipping outside. And thick socks when it's chilly. Uggs are a pain to get on and off in a hurry.

Yoohoo16 · 21/09/2019 19:15

Love my ugg slippers.

PegasusReturns · 21/09/2019 19:18

I love my ugg slippers - best money spent ever.

No - nothing Ugg. Have you seen the video about Uggs? Have a watch then see how much you want to wear them.

Sooverthemill · 21/09/2019 20:05

I love my UGG slippers and buy a new pair every winter. They do wear down under my heel and after daily use they get a bit shabby but I could probably stretch them out to 2 winters. I get the ones with decent soles for nipping out into the garden. I have four different styles I like but I think dalla is my favourite.

And sheepskin is a byproduct of the meat industry. It's the whole skin from dead animals. I eat meat and wear leather and occasionally wool clothes.

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 21/09/2019 20:07

Most comfy slippers ever. I have a pair from about 4 years ago that are still doing well-ish but I’ve asked DH for some more for Christmas. I don’t go outside in them and I think that’s why they’ve lasted so well. I just have an old pair of slip on shoes by the back door for bins etc.

YahBasic · 21/09/2019 20:11

My uggs are about 6 years old and still going strong. Maybe get the short ones

MrsMaryMooFace · 21/09/2019 20:25

I bought some Next sheepskin slippers last year and they have been ace, I use them to nip out to let the dogs out, put the bin out, accept parcels etc and they are lasting well

Girasole02 · 21/09/2019 20:28

Love my uggs. Starting to go a bit bald under the heel but this is there third year so can't complain. Don't wear them outdoors though. I've got an old pair of shoes by the back door.

Nat6999 · 21/09/2019 20:30

I have the Next sheepskin slippers, they are so comfortable, soles are brilliant to go outside, they are as good as the Ugg ones & so much cheaper you can always buy more than one pair.

bigburdd · 21/09/2019 20:35

I always go for the Just Sheepskin slippers, love them!

Redland12 · 21/09/2019 20:45

Ugg has been in big trouble for cruelty to their sheep!! I would never wear anything by them, the video is absolutely horrendous! Why on earth would you buy these? Lots of alternatives.

8dayweek · 21/09/2019 20:50

As much as I do like mine I have to agree with PP's in that the heel area goes bald and shabby looking quite quickly. I also find I get a bit of a bad back if I wear them all day (Xmas etc) as they're not as supportive as they seem.
I got my DM a pair of Fit Flop slippers for Xmas last year (managed to get a new joiner code for money off or free delivery I think) but they still look brand new and she says they're very comfortable.

SouthWestmom · 21/09/2019 21:08

I loved mine (mules) so much my mum and dd bought some. Heel has worn out though plus ove just converted to veganism so have to find alternatives.

I think a lot is in the name. Not sure there aren't better slippers out there to be fair.

Fstar · 21/09/2019 21:08

Ugg slipprs are fab, good sole for popping out if needed

Inforthelonghaul · 21/09/2019 21:13

My Ugg Moraene slippers have lasted at least 3 years and still look and feel like new. They have hard soles for going outside and I really can’t recommend them enough.

walkintheparc · 21/09/2019 21:13

Next do a fantastic dupe for £20! They have similar thick waterproof soles to the ugg ones so probably good for popping outside.

Bobbindobbin · 21/09/2019 21:18

Brand Alley have some reduced Ugg slippers at the moment.

Between4and30character · 21/09/2019 21:28

Thanks Moondancer I dont think I'll bother with Uggs after that! That's horrific Sad

I do like sheepskin though, are there any that don't treat the animals horribly?

I liked my Uggs when I had them but wanted more of a mule type thing thats easy to sling on and off by the door. I will look into the Next and JL alternatives!

Thanks all for the replies, especially the ones that highlighted why Uggs are a bad choice. I'm a bit ashamed that I'm not better informed about that. I'm not vegetarian/ vegan but very conscious of buying local high-welfare meat and dairy, not sure why I haven't put more thought into where my clothing comes from before now!

Sooverthemill · 22/09/2019 09:28

@Between4and30character I take animal welfare very seriously. A friend of mine is a sheep farmer and she is adamant that it is rare for sheep to be treated as they are shown on that YouTube video. The shearing shown on the video ( which is horrific) is for wool not sheepskin ( which the hide of the sheep removed after meat production). Not all farmers are cruel. Obviously all meat producers end up killing their animals but some do have high standards. If you feel that it is cruel to eat meat and stop doing so then by all means stop having sheepskin and leather products. But if you eat meat, then surely leather etc is okay.

blablablabla123 · 22/09/2019 09:37

If you joing shoeaholic as a new member you will get a discount. They have OZALIA slippers which are like ugg for £54 a pair. With discount of 20% (or thereabouts) they come in a good price. I live in mine and after a year they are still in good shape.

MintyT · 22/09/2019 09:39

I loved my ugg slippers I worn them out did you know you can put them in the washing machine I have ugg fluffy flip flops at the moment

Between4and30character · 22/09/2019 09:50

Thanks Soover as I said, I'm not a vegetarian, but I take care to buy locally where I know the animals have been treated well. I live in a rural area, we can visit the farms our food comes from.

With regards to leather/ animal hide of any sort I've accepted that I should take alot more notice of this and vow to do so from now on.

I know not all farmers are cruel, which is why I'd like to find out where I can find them!
