Ugg Slippers?

Between4and30character · 21/09/2019 18:51

Any good? I liked my old Ugg boots but I walk funny and they never lasted long.

I dont wear shoes in the house so was looking for something I can have beside the door to chuck on if I need to go outside therefore something with an actual sole and comfortable enough that I can keep them on indoors if its chilly.

Is there anything better than Uggs? They're alot of money on my budget...

@Between4and30character me too! I did investigate and talked to my friend before buying uggs for the first time

ObtuseTriangle · 22/09/2019 10:07

There are a few brands of UGG even we Aussies are not sure of the original one, some are made in Oz some in China. DH recommends UGG Boot Australia as the best.
I have not seen the video pp refers to & not sure how relevant it is since it’s for wool not sheepskin but DSIL and many of DH’s family are sheep farmers and shearer’s and they treat their animals with respect. If a shearer injured sheep whilst shearing them they are not going to be asked back again the farmer is not going to tolerate bad treatment - what good is a sheep with a broken leg to a farmer? Surely UGG don’t raise their own sheep & wouldn’t sheepskin be a by product of the meat industry?

I used to love my Ugg slippers and had a new pair every year around this time, but agree that they’re expensive. I was at Costco a few weeks ago and they had some of their own brand (I think it’s called Kirkland) sheepskin slippers, same colour and design as I normally have, £20! They’re very comfortable, warm and much thicker rubber sole than the ugg ones so I can peg washing out when the grass is wet and I don’t get wet feet Grin

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 22/09/2019 10:10

Have a look at Celtic and Co. I’m surprised no-one has mentioned them yet; I learnt about them on MN a few years ago.

British-made and a good sustainability policy.

y0rkier0se · 22/09/2019 10:12

The £20 Costco ones

Fleece lined cfocs for nipping in and put of the garden.

Fit flop have brought out a slipper which is neat but v expensive.

Totes secret support are great for the winter and often about £8 in TK Max and I have a pair of Clarke's ancient fuglies for the summer.

I wear slippers on a rota. Buy a pair every other year but have two or three pairs on the go.

Binting · 22/09/2019 10:18

I’ve had the Costco ones too. They were great. Not sure about the makers stance on animal welfare though, will have a look.

Binting · 22/09/2019 10:23

Costco seem to have a genuine animal welfare policy. The section on down and feathers might apply to wool www.costco.com/sustainability-animal-welfare.html

TheHoundsofLove · 22/09/2019 10:23

I was also going to say have a look at Celtic and Co - all their sheepskin is British and their whole ethos is around being ethical. Their bootie style slippers are the most comfortable and warm things I've even had on my feet and they can be put in the washing machine.

MrsMozartMkII · 22/09/2019 10:25

Bugger. I've been buying ugg as I thought they were the indeeds who weren't cruel!

Why oh why are humans so bloody inhumane.

PizzaCrunch · 22/09/2019 10:27

Thankyou, I like the look of the Celtic and Co ones!

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 22/09/2019 11:47

I wouldn’t go by that video from Peta.

It might depend on where you buy from but actual Ugg Australia (they’ve shortened to Ugg now) as in the ones made by Deckers, are made from industry byproduct.

They don’t raise lambs for slaughter and farmers have spoken out against that video by PETA.

Keep in mind that PETA do things like this so they’re not exactly people to take advice from;

PizzaCrunch · 22/09/2019 14:32

I didn't know other companies used the term "Ugg" I thought Uggs just meant Ugg Australia and nothing else.

Thanks for pointing that out Waitress. I have had a few pairs of Uggs (from Ugg Australia) and was happy with them.

PizzaCrunch · 22/09/2019 14:32

Also didnt notice the video was from PETA who I tend not to take too seriously anyway.

MoreProseccoNow · 22/09/2019 14:39

I am LOVING my fitflop Chrissie slippers - got them for £45 online. They have a good thick sole & furry lining. Heaven!

Gardai · 22/09/2019 16:27

I’m going to try vionic’s Gemma slipper, look comfy and good for the feet - I used to wear uggs but they look so awful quickly for the price, and I’m unsure about the cruelty aspect now.

Dangerfloof · 22/09/2019 18:32

I got ugg flip flops to use as slippers, hardy sole, warm enough, slip on. In the sale they were 30 quid. So far a bit over a year they are still comfy, still got fur where there should be fur. Ok to get the post and put bin out.

MrsMozartMkII · 22/09/2019 18:35

Ah. Thank you. I didn't notice the PETA bit either.

Mine are all Ugg Australia rather than the copies (as I thought it was the best). Will go back to research before I buy any more sheepskin products from anywhere.

StarlingsInSummer · 22/09/2019 18:43

Someone got me a pair of Harris tweed sheepskin slippers last Xmas and they are so nice. Lovely and warm, hard soles, easy to slip on and off. And pretty too. I have ugg boots but I don’t find them exactly easy to slip into in a hurry, but maybe that’s my feet.

EleanorLavish · 22/09/2019 18:50

Just coming on to say Celtic and Co too. You can wash them in the machine which is a mega bonus, and buy a new insole if it is wearing thin.
Expensive but very good quality.

PizzaCrunch · 22/09/2019 18:51

Those Harris Tweed ones are gorgeous... I think I'm sold!

WaitrosePigeon · 22/09/2019 18:52

Yes I really love them.

BogglesGoggles · 22/09/2019 18:53

@Moondancer73 that’s not how sheep shearing typically works. That’s also not what uggs are made of. Uggs are made of sheepskin not wool.

VanGoghsDog · 22/09/2019 19:00

@LittleMissEngineer

I have non Ugg sheepskin slippers, the sheepskin goes bald inside at the heel due to rough dry skin there. I just buy 99p sheepskin insoles from Amazon every year or so and slip them in.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 22/09/2019 19:32

I have glerups with a rubber sole. I did have Mahabis but they went very smelly even after washing. These are lasting really well.
