Ugg Slippers?

Any good? I liked my old Ugg boots but I walk funny and they never lasted long.

I dont wear shoes in the house so was looking for something I can have beside the door to chuck on if I need to go outside therefore something with an actual sole and comfortable enough that I can keep them on indoors if its chilly.

Is there anything better than Uggs? They're alot of money on my budget...

Ugg Slippers?

Love mine - on my second pair but agree with pp that they definitely wear away. Mine were gifts - I wouldn’t pay full price for them myself.

Ticklemeelmo · 22/09/2019 20:07

I have some sheepskin slippers from New Zealand and live in them in the Winter. You don't have to buy branded Uggs there are plenty of cheaper alternatives

Moondancer73 · 22/09/2019 21:39

@BogglesGoggles well if you're happy to wear them that's up to you but I'm certainly not.

Moondancer73 · 22/09/2019 21:41

And for those saying that because the video is from PETA - who I actually don't like too much either - that is one of the less graphic videos, that's why I posted that one. Be as blinkered as you like in the name of comfort, it's 'only an animal' after all 🤷‍♀️

MarigoldGlove · 22/09/2019 21:54

In Australia ‘ugg’ means sheepskin boot. In a similar way to how we use ‘hoover’ for a vacuum cleaner.

Ugg Australia is an American company that copyrighted the word Ugg. Much to the horror of many Australian companies who had been producing ugg boots for years.

Ugg Australia boots are good quality. However, there are equally good quality ugg boots that are cheaper. They aren’t copies or fakes. Such as Celtic or Emu.

Haffiana · 22/09/2019 22:04

Ah yes, Peta. It is a religion, only rather less truthful and even more faith-based.

hammeringinmyhead · 23/09/2019 10:47

I buy my slippers (the boots, which don't have soles, but others do) from here.

@Moondancer73 it's absolutely not 'only an animal ' but the video yiu linked to has nothing whatsoever to do with ugg style sheepskin slippers. Shearing is not how you make sheepskin. And those PETA videos have been discredited.

I’ve been wanting a pair of the Ugg sheepskin moccasin slippers for years now but could never justify the price for slippers - the style I want is £110. I make do with much cheaper versions made with fleece, fake sheepskin and the like.

I’m also trying to buy pre owned as much as I can (although pre owned slippers would probably be pretty grim). Especially with leather and sheepskin products. I can’t bring myself to buy them new anymore (vegetarian) but used is different as it’s saving things going to landfill but still not contributing to demand for animal products. I never really minded wool products as I have seen sheep being sheared in real life (used to have horses and farm also had sheep). I didn’t watch the peta video because I can only imagine how bad it would be. Always the worst case and not really what goes on the majority of the time. I will say most farmers I’ve known do treat their livestock pretty well as they rely on them for income so it’s in their best interests. I know any sheep shearing I’ve witnessed has been a fast but calm process and the sheep were certainly fine afterwards. Maybe feeling a bit chilly but certainly not hurt.

I had some ugg slippers and can confirm they were fab. I could never justify the price now though.

As an aside is sheepskin really a byproduct of the meat industry? I know this is a commonly held belief about leather but my understanding is that most leather comes from cattle bred specifically for leather and not for meat.

candlefloozy · 25/09/2019 07:08

I have ugg slippers. They are amazing. Got some for my husband and they are equally as amazing

chasingseagulls · 25/09/2019 07:37

MarigoldGlove phew was just going to come on and clairify that non Ugg (the brand) ugg boots are NOT copies or fakes.

Ugg Australia (Deckers) did a fantastic PR job on the that one in the 90s to discredit the competition. Australian people laughed. Not as much as the thought of wearing any type of ugg boot out of the house though :)

Anyway, slippers. Would also recommend Celtic and Co, fantastic, GB produced (mainly) and owned excellent customer service. Sign up for codes.

It's interesting how people jump in the cruelty bandwagon after watching a video that has been set up to provoke an emotional response. PETA, who have the video on their website, also say this

UGG boots are made of shearling—yep, that’s skin with the fleece still attached, people! Every year, millions of sheep are castrated and parts of their tails are cut off—often without any painkillers—before they’re finally slaughtered for their skin, which is what UGG boots are made of. They endure all that cruelty just for a pair of boots. It’s also considered “normal” in the Australian wool industry for approximately 3 million young lambs to die every spring.

So let's break it down. First, all sheepskin products are made from shearling. Millions of sheep castrated? So are millions of dogs and cows and pigs.it stops them breeding unnecessarily. Tails cut off? It's called docking, and it's necessary to prevent them suffering from all sorts of fly born diseases. Slaughtered for their skin? No, sheep are slaughtered for their meat. The shearling is a by product. 3 million young lambs die because that's why they are bred, for us to be able to eat spring lamb! They don't die for no reason! (Or to provide us with very expensive ugg boots).

Everything PETA says above is true, but context is everything too. They post a gruesome video of sheep being slaughtered, make a few statements out of context or without a full explanation, and say that's what UGG are promoting. It's a bit like showing a video of a child being beaten by its father, saying 3 million children die each year them jumping to a big conclusion that all fathers beat their children who then go on to die.

BTW, Next slippers are as long lasting as Uggs, without the price tag.

Just Sheepskin are good.
These have lasted my two years and I am usually very heavy on on my heels.
