As always, let's critique the clothes and not the wearers.

Camilla has probably lived quite a bit of Jilly Cooper! Wink

roisinagusniamh · 24/09/2019 12:42

It is so refreshing to see people not bowing to H&M.
Whether they care or not, I hate to see people bowing or curtsying to anyone.

NoTheresa · 24/09/2019 12:51

ChardonnaysDistantCousin

Camilla looks like a Jilly Cooper reader.

Hmm Thought the idea of this thread was to discuss fashion. I wonder what you are trying to suggest?

BertrandRussell · 24/09/2019 12:52

“Maybe a lesson has finally been learnt.

Two out of the three outfits have been seen before. So not really!

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 24/09/2019 12:52

Same here. I would absolutely hate if someone bowed to me too (not that it would happen). Such a submissive act.

When dancing and everyone bows to one another is the only time it is ok 😀

Ninkaninus · 24/09/2019 12:53

I like a bit of Jilly Cooper! What on earth’s wrong with that??

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 24/09/2019 12:55

I actually think Camilla looks a little like Jilly Cooper.

No idea what any of them read. Not much would be my guess Tbh.

BertrandRussell · 24/09/2019 12:59

Theresa May curtseying to William made me want to man the barricades.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 24/09/2019 12:59

Nothing wrong with Camilla, or with reading Jilly Cooper or indeed looking like Silly Cooper.

BlingLoving · 24/09/2019 13:12

I did roll my eyes at one woman who did a sort of semi curtsey which was almost as cringeworthy as Teresa May's.

Dh thought I was odd when I started ranting about it! I went to a very old fashioned catholic school where we curtseyed to all adults. I suspect if I met the queen the old instincts would come out, but feel confident that they wouldn't for anyone else!!

Horsemad · 24/09/2019 13:15

Oh I LOVE Meghan's outfit today; she does do casual beautifully.

SenecaFalls · 24/09/2019 13:27

Prince Philip is very well read. It's a little known fact evidently, but his fairly extensive reading interests are always mentioned by his biographers.

I'm another lover of oversized totes who has trouble finding the right one. Leather is too heavy, but I haven't found one in canvas or nylon that I like. I like Meghan's; I agree that she does casual very well.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/09/2019 13:32

Camilla has probably lived quite a bit of Jilly Cooper!

I'll say, especially if the rumours that Rupert Campbell Black was based on Andrew Parker Bowles are true!

Totally love the Camilla/Jilly Cooper thing - makes perfect sense to me!

Meghan looks great today - those white shirts really suit her.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 24/09/2019 13:43

Oh bugger!

Sorry, Jilly.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/09/2019 14:04

H&M have arrived for their mosque visit - Meghan in a long khaki dress, white headscarf and flats, Harry in trousers that ahem, leave little to the imagination...

Yes I noticed the lack of an engagement ring. No harm. She's replaced it with a tiny little turquoise thing. I think its Jennifer Meyer, so hideously expensive actually, but at least it doesn't look it.

BlingLoving · 24/09/2019 14:15

I'm increasingly of the opinion that Meghan isn't really a big flashy engagement ring kind of person. Notwithstanding her having the ring reset. If you look at most of her jewellery, large pieces with a single large stone are not really her thing at all.

I might be projecting though as while I love my engagement ring, I hate wearing it WITH my wedding ring. So almost never wear it. At some point will have it resized and possibly reset to wear as a dress ring on my right hand.

thisenglishlife · 24/09/2019 14:35

It's £200

“I'm increasingly of the opinion that Meghan isn't really a big flashy engagement ring kind of person.”

No- all her other jewellery is very understated. Maybe she’s had an awkward conversation with Harry about it........

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/09/2019 14:43

I'd not heard of Jennifer Meyer so looked the line up on Net a Porter and it's very pretty. Some expensive pieces but also some that are more mid-range.

I have a short waist like Meghan and looking at the pictures of her dresses and shoes is really interesting - like looking at fashion bloggers who have a similar shape to you. I think she looks really average in wrap and tie waist dresses (as do I) and I'm not sure why she keeps opting for them.

She looks best IMO in skinny jeans, with shirt/blouse or pencil skirts (or those pencil or fitted dresses pre pregnancy - however I too had quite a thick waist for at least 6 month post partum which I think is more pronounced being short waisted). If I was her, she has great legs, I would show them off rather than go for a waist cinching type dress so soon post partum.

Shoes wise, looking at her and Kate in espadrilles just so completely puts me off them! They are just awful? Not flattering, not chic.... clumpy, hoofy, clumsy even.

itswinetime · 24/09/2019 14:49

Meghan always has a strong casual outfit this is no different. The khaki dress isn't to my taste I don't really like that shade but it's fitting for the occasion is tonight one of the formal events?

MotherofPearl · 24/09/2019 14:52

Yes I don't think that khaki dress is at all flattering but it is appropriate for the setting. She is swamped by all that fabric.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/09/2019 14:58

@itswinetime I think tonight is more cocktail frock than gown but we'll have to be satisfied with that! Though Meghan's evening wear game isn't as strong as her casual one.
