Wearing Converse in 40s? Photos

Shoeshelpplease · 08/09/2019 09:05

I'm having a problem with my foot and need to turn to more comfortable shoes for the time being.

Is it ok to wear Converse in your 49s with casual clothes? I'm not in touch with brands at all outside my usual comfort zone.

I'd be wearing them with turn up, chinos, 3/4 trousers and jeans.

Any ideas thoughts on these pairs?

I love the small platform on the black and white ones as so comfy!

I do, light grey and black and white. With dresses, shorts and jeans. I’m 42.

Greenglassteacup · 08/09/2019 09:07

I think you can wear whatever you want at any age. I don’t think converse are particularly comfortable or interesting but if you do then go for it. I don’t like this ‘too old for x, y, z’ nonsense

WalkofShame · 08/09/2019 09:07

If you like them, wear them. Anyone who thinks that the year that you were born should dictate what you wear is a dick and best ignored.

LIZS · 08/09/2019 09:08

Avoid gimmicky middle pair . Others are more classic but tbh you may not find they help your feet as I find mine quite unsupportive.

pimbee · 08/09/2019 09:09

I'm just surprised you find them comfortable tbh, I've been wearing them for years but when I do it's not for comfort! Even broken in pairs are no where near as comfortable as a pair of gazelles. But no of course not, wear what you want!

Naillig222 · 08/09/2019 09:10

I think wear whatever you like. But just FYI if you have a foot problem converse are a pretty bad choice of footwear. There is zero support/arch in them. So depending on what your issue is they could possibly make it worse.

I know plenty of women who wear them in their forties.

Justkeeprollingalong · 08/09/2019 09:13

I prefer Supergas to Converse and I'm in my 60s.
Age, after all is just a number.

However neither of them offer much support and certainly aren't comfortable or walking more than a mile or two.

Justkeeprollingalong · 08/09/2019 09:14

For not or!!

LolaSmiles · 08/09/2019 09:16

I'm echoing what others have said, they look fine so wear them but if you've got foot issues then they're probably not good for your feet unless you've got specialist insoles to help.

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 08/09/2019 09:16

I love the mustard colour but the writing is naff
I agree with the comments re support. You feel every little stone. For the money the soles are crap
I've recently gone high lift. As I want to be 2" taller this is a good solution. They are much more comfortable

C0untDucku1a · 08/09/2019 09:19

I thought this was a thread about photos from the 1940’s!

Converse are not supportive and not comfortable if on your feet all day. But wear what you want.

chemenger · 08/09/2019 09:21

I am in my 50’s and would wear Converse, except for the fact that they make my feet ache. I used to wear than a lot and thought that I was developing arthritis in my feet. Turns out that when I swapped to Sketchers the pain completely disappeared. I do miss the look of converse and occasionally wear them (grey leather) but they inevitably make my feet hurt. Sketchers are ugly but unbelievably comfortable.

Fairylea · 08/09/2019 09:23

Middle pair are awful (writing is super naff) but the others are fine. Converse aren’t very supportive though if you have issues with your feet.

If you want something trendy and comfortable look at some of the white trainers about at the moment - Stan Smiths, Reebok, even Mint Velvet do some nice white ones (although MV aren’t as trendy).

Whenaretheholidaysover · 08/09/2019 09:23

I have ditched the converse for Vans or Supergas. Much more comfortable.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 08/09/2019 09:24

I hope so I wore mine yesterday , was thinking about treating myself to a platform pair! Although slightly agree with the no arch support .... I might take a look at superga

notacooldad · 08/09/2019 09:29

I e been wearing converse for ever and I'm in my 50s now.
I've always found them ok comfort wise but the other year I put in a gel insole in a pair and the difference was amazing!
I've done that with all my trainers now.
My life has changed!

MissClareRemembers · 08/09/2019 09:29

I remember a thread on MN years ago claiming over-30s are too old for Converse!!

I wonder if that particular OP is now 30+ and regretting their words..?

If you like ‘em, wear ‘em. Simple as that.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/09/2019 09:31

I wasn’t aware of an age limit on converse, but boy do I find them uncomfortable.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 08/09/2019 09:32

I think they are bloody uncomfortable! But wear whatever you want op 🤷🏼‍♀️

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 08/09/2019 09:33

And I agree with op that sketchers are ugly! But soooooo comfy Grin

jenthelibrarian · 08/09/2019 09:33

I 63, FFS, and I wear Converse.
I have a Hello Kitty pair, and one with a rather nice jungle print.

Pinkarsedfly · 08/09/2019 09:35

I thought Converse was part of the 40-something uniform?

I have about 90 pairs!

megletthesecond · 08/09/2019 09:35

Converse are ageless. BUT they are very flat and not always the most comfortable if you walk a lot.
I find Nike Internationalists far more comfortable.
