Wearing Converse in 40s? Photos

I'm having a problem with my foot and need to turn to more comfortable shoes for the time being.

Is it ok to wear Converse in your 49s with casual clothes? I'm not in touch with brands at all outside my usual comfort zone.

I'd be wearing them with turn up, chinos, 3/4 trousers and jeans.

Any ideas thoughts on these pairs?

I love the small platform on the black and white ones as so comfy!

I'm in my fifties and still wear them, although not so much these days as I find them a lot less comfortable as I get older. I used to be able to walk for miles in them. I hate getting oldWink

I'm 50 and I don't think a day has gone by since I was a teenager that I haven't owned a pair of Converse. I find them very comfortable (narrow feet so most trainers slop around). The ones with writing on are naff though and you might want to consider a leather pair as we're heading into Autumn.

I'm way older than you and been wearing black suede chunky / ugly trainers today from Ugg with Zara combat trousers
Wear what you like
I saw a woman of 60 recently wearing cream wide leg cropped jeans and Fila disruptors- she looked fab

I mostly wear Sketchers because they are very comfy for standing around in and walking a reasonable distance.
If I was running, I'd wear my proper running shoes.
Whether my footwear is currently fashionable or not is completely irrelevant to me.
My mum had very painful bunions on both feet that needed surgery so I won't sacrifice my comfort on the altar of inconsequential fashionable opinions.

Oops, wrong thread! Blush

I'm in complete agreement with Sconesofdestiny re looking after your feet
I read somewhere that high heels should be ditched if you want to live longer - I think it was due to chronic low grade inflammatory reaction when wearing them which can set off other pathological processes
I can't bear wearing shoes that are not comfortable or that I couldn't do a quick walk in or go to a supermarket in on way home from work. Or run off which I occasionally have to do at work
I just hope the trainer keeps reinventing itself so stays current and acceptable with dresses -I think it probably will though as so many people love the comfort. They are a bigger money spinner for big designers now than handbags apparently

Thanks all for the tips, after learning how uncomfortable they can be I think ow I'll send them back. My thorough research re comfort is based in five minutes walking ground the house in them!

Will look at other ideas suggested in this thread and come back later.

I'm in my 50s, with dodgy feet. The ugly dad trainer trend has been an absolute godsend this past year. I couldn't wear Converse, soles are too thin and they are cut quite narrow.

I can absolutely recommend Fila Disruptors - absolute game changer. Incredibly comfortable and everyone is slightly surprised by my on trend footwear choices.

They come in all kinds of colours, mostly quite lurid - check the uppers, the leather ones are best. You might have to hunt a bit for colours that you like.

Found them very uncomfortable, prefer my Stan Smiths

Persea · 08/09/2019 21:32

@Shoeshelpplease what’s your foot issue?

I used to wear converse. But had to abandon them due to a foot issue.
I’ve swapped to fitflop trainers. (Never a sentence I thought I’d say)
But they are incredibly comfortable and do not aggravate my feet AT ALL. Which is bloody brilliant.

Dieu · 08/09/2019 21:33

Go for it! I'm sure you'll look fab.

TimeForNewStart · 09/09/2019 00:32

Converse very much not comfy. For comfort and a more modern look I would go for something like this from Ecco

No. In your 40s you should only be wearing bege leather lace ups or sandals with beige slacks and maybe a touch of blue in your acrylic short sleaved damart sweater.

Or just wear shoes that you like because they're shoes. Your choice.
