Can we stop with the stupid ‘can I speak to the manager/mum bob’ comments

I see the same ‘joke’ over and over and over again. We’re not rude about any other style of hair cut so what makes a short bob open to it?

I’ve had versions of bobs my whole adult life. I’m chronically ill and it takes a toll on my hair. It’s fine and thin. It can’t handle being coloured. It always looks best in a short sharp bob, cut into my neck at the back. Any longer and it looks like rats tails, any shorter and it sits flat to my head.

Reading the constant piss-take comments about my hairstyle gets me down (and there’s at least one on every short hair style thread).

It’s not even funny, it’s just boring.

So, to sum up...

The 'I want to talk to the manager' haircut is not a bob. Not even similar.

The 'I want to talk to the manager' meme is not about assertive women. It's about entitled people on the make, trying to throw their weight around, and making life really unpleasant for the people they're dealing with. They deserve to have the piss taken.

@TheSemenOfARighteousMan

You are spot on.

@Musicforsnorks

The presumption that being a mother robs you of something is ridiculous.

This is S&B. When you have babies and toddlers, or have had babies and toddlers for a number of years, they rob you of EVERYTHING.

IhaveALooBrush · 07/09/2019 00:46

I came on here to agree with the thread title until I saw the mega Karen picture.
Now I can't stop laughing

withlotsoflove · 07/09/2019 04:35

karens are a particularly spiteful type of customer.
The hairstyle is a peculiar, stacked jumble of graduated layers + ( usually tigerish high/low lights)
If you work in retail, you’ll encounter this character regularly and wish to quit your job!
It has zero to do with feminism/ putting other woman down / assertiveness... as these woman are all about the nonsense.
Looking for a fight and belittling any retail worker they encounter.
Long live the memes. Grin it’s our only relief!

Monty27 · 07/09/2019 05:33

Oh OP bobs are great. You can dress them for any occasion.
I've not really heard them being slated.
Whatever you have to wear just wear it well. Smile

gingersausage · 07/09/2019 06:23

I’m completely baffled by the idea that any of those haircuts are bobs. Since when did bobs include spikes, layers or choppy bits? Surely the whole point of a bob is that it’s blunt cut, but a quick google seems to throw up “literally any hairstyle on the planet”. Who knew 🤷‍♀️.

A mum bob is the opposite if the Karen hairdo

ooooohbetty · 07/09/2019 07:29

I had no idea what you were talking about. Had to google it. It just looks like an old fashioned hair style to me.

ThatCurlyGirl · 07/09/2019 08:32

^^ this

And I couldn't help but laugh at this picture 😂

Cocoismydog · 07/09/2019 08:42

OP.. just channel Anna Wintour instead. She has done okay with a bob 😬 It’s attitude that counts. Your hair may not be your strong point but maybe be who you want to be via your clothes and make up or just your personality. Bobs rule.

Ouchies · 07/09/2019 08:47

I didn't even know what this haircut / meme was about.
I had my long hair cut into a choppy shoulder length Bob recently and I love it - even with my chubby cheeks and double chin.
DD commented that it was a mom hairstyle!

Ohyesiam · 07/09/2019 08:55

Can someone post a picture of mum boots? And anything else I’m not to wear?

gingersausage · 07/09/2019 09:05

@Ohyesiam “mum boots” are a particular type of cheap synthetic leather ankle boots with a blocky heel and a rounded toe from places like Shoezone. I don’t know exactly what it is about them that makes them “off”, they just are.

Allinadaystwerk · 07/09/2019 09:19

As a woman with wild curls that do exactly what they like regardless of what i want or attempt in terms of style, I love this thread. Sometimes my hair is just ridiculous. I wonder what retail staff think of Unruly curls...?
So...embrace what you have OP life is too short and cropped and neat at the back

Allinadaystwerk · 07/09/2019 09:20

Oh and what are mom boots?

Tweetingmagpie · 07/09/2019 09:25

I love a bob, some people just look great with them, dawn o Porter is a good example.

I’ve not seen anyone with one of those inverted bobs with a fringe and highlights for years lol

AmIChangingagain · 07/09/2019 09:33

I had never heard of this before reading this thread

It's funny. And accurate

IhaveALooBrush · 07/09/2019 09:34

Meet me at McDonalds!!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

herecomesthsun · 07/09/2019 09:40

I have very curly hair. I just think "Gosh, my hair would never do that..." and if I cut it short it would just spiral vertically...

mystupidmistake · 07/09/2019 09:41

It’s a funny meme. If it wasn’t, people wouldn’t be sharing it.

mystupidmistake · 07/09/2019 09:43

The video a PP posted is an absolute must watch.

SteelRiver · 07/09/2019 10:15

I've never heard the phrase, nor seen the memes before, but I can understand how you feel, OP. It sometimes seems that any woman who doesn't have long, flowing locks is made fun of, sneered at and even ridiculed.
