Beauty Advent Calendars 2019

It’s almost that time again! Anyone have their eye on anything?

There is a good overview here: www.marieclaire.co.uk/beauty/beauty-advent-calendars-2019-39069

I’m waiting on the M&S one as I loved it so much last year (no sign of it so far but I suspect it will be similar to 2018 for release date, so around start of November). I also like the look of the Look Fantastic and Nuxe but three may be pushing it. Grin

If money was no object I’d be on the Jo Malone and Lush calendars.

A H & B thread would be fun. I would love the M & S one too but am in NZ so not sure if they will ship. I am in UK in October so will bring the H & B one back with me but think I will miss the M & S as I think it is out on 31st October. Perhaps they will launch earlier - or I could buy one and save it for next year!

Writersblock2 · 21/09/2019 15:45

So my H&B arrived yesterday. I’ll start a couple of threads shortly for calendars I’m getting.

For anyone interested, there’s a tiny bit of info about the Amazon calendar. No links yet. Pre-orders will be taken next week (no idea when) and apparently it will be £50. Brands include Find, Foreo and Wunder.

The Latest in Beauty advent calendar details are on their site. I'm not impressed.

FadingStar · 23/09/2019 07:18

Just had a look. I don't think it's so bad...there are quite a few products there I would use and some good reputable brands. I absolutely loved last year's as the sizes were fantastic.

Housewife2010 · 23/09/2019 07:20

I really wish the Elle calendar contents would be revealed ASAP.

Writersblock2 · 23/09/2019 07:59

@FadingStar - I’m quite tempted! Hmmm. 🤔

One may have fallen into my basket...

Last year I got the Elemis one and told myself it was my Brexit cosmetics stockpile. I have quite a lot of the stuff left so I don't think I can justify getting one this year (of any brand). Lumene could tempt me though...

spiralflower · 23/09/2019 12:10

Is this the new ELLE one (or is it an old one)? If so, I’m not tempted for the price as there are only a few products that I’d actually want! www.hearstmagazines.co.uk/elle-advent-calendar-jf?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq-LB7ubm5AIVzkPTCh3WXAYDEAQYASABEgIcMPD_BwE

FadingStar · 23/09/2019 12:11

Hehe Writer yes I appear to have had a similar accident of sorts. 😂😂

Housewife2010 · 23/09/2019 13:26

That's the new Elle calendar. I really like it.

Writersblock2 · 23/09/2019 14:16

The ELLE one is quite nice but I’m going to resist! At this rate I might be looking at four as it is. I’ll just have to not buy any other beauty stuff for ages. Shock

Will anyone be joining me with the Jo Malone one? It's out next week....

Writersblock2 · 23/09/2019 17:09

I wish! Love Jo Malone but can’t justify the cost this year.

OP posts:
FadingStar · 23/09/2019 17:24

Elle looks lovely...I got it discounted last year around Black Friday from Hearst. It was half price IIRC. Jo Malone would be great but not in my price range at all sadly.

Writersblock2 · 23/09/2019 18:27

We should keep an eye out and list discounted ones here when they appear. Maybe we will get lucky with some extras!

Hmmm, not keen on the ELLE one, or LiB. H&B one does look really good. Might go for that one. No othet taking mh fancy. Would love Jo Malone, hmmmm. Ill have a think!

gower4 · 23/09/2019 18:37

Ok, I know I'm going to sound like a killjoy (feel free to throw me off the thread) but I've decided many of these are a rip off!

For example Diptyque £320 - you can buy the Christmas set of 12 mini candles for £120, the full size one for £50 which still leaves £150 to play with. I can't believe tiny sample sizes of perfume and body cream are worth the bother, you may as well use that £150 to buy eg 3 more big candles or a full size perfume you actually want.

Ditto Jo Malone, Jo loves etc....sorry...

FadingStar · 23/09/2019 20:36

I think you do have to be pretty careful with the contents and make sure you would use them. I only buy a calendar I genuinely think I would get use out of and nothing would go to waste. I had a one brand calendar a few years ago...never again. There were so many things I didn't really like or would use. Plus it was dull.

gower4 · 23/09/2019 20:57

@FadingStar I agree. I don't mean to sound miserable - I e bought Liberty ones in the past, I'm just thinking it might be more rewarding to treat myself to specific things I really want for the same money

Writersblock2 · 23/09/2019 22:59

I agree with FadingStar, and I always check the contents before. However, I would allocate some of the “worth” to the fun I get from them too - both the daily opening and thread participation. Add that to the many products I never would have considered before (and never would have tried without having a calendar) but absolutely love now I have tried them, and I think generally they’re worth it. I also find many of the sizes perfect for taking on holiday.

I also see them in some ways like Christmas crackers - those aren’t worth the money either but in the right circumstances they’re worth it for the fun.

OP posts:
Writersblock2 · 23/09/2019 23:00

I should add, I could see me not bothering in a few years, and going the “buy the full size” route too.

Butterymuffin · 23/09/2019 23:05

I don't go for single brand ones for the same reason. I like to mix it up. I also partly enjoy the reward of having a small 'treat' to open each day - it wouldn't be the same to just buy one big thing, even if it was utterly luxurious.

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 24/09/2019 07:43

If you are interested in trying a range of high-end products then something like Liberty is really good value for money, but I agree that single-brand calendars lose out in this regard. Diptyque is particularly bad for this - mostly 35g candles which are votive-sized, really tiny and not much bigger than a couple of tea lights.
