Hi all, I've been following the tribe group on Facebook for a while but just wondering if anyone here has tried it. I can't seem to get to the bottom of what they advise, seasons etc. Is there something similar closer to London. And she keeps advising chunky trainers, is this a thing now?

I find it really sad that the moderation policies on the SBS Facebook group have actually led to a client feeling the need to defend themselves on a public forum.

eggofmantumbi · 10/08/2020 22:37

@curlyhairedwoman it's a shame you had to post here. I think your new hair looks brilliant, like you say much healthier and I'm assuming easier to maintain.

I think you make the point I was trying to make in my cross post with you- without seeing the forms you fill in, it's hard (not fair) to judge.

@CurlyHairedWoman you did have gorgeous curls before, but you also had a lot of hair!! I totally understand wanting less hair, especially in this weather Grin

I like the new length on you. I also suspect it’ll get curlier again once it recovers from the “shock” of suddenly being much shorter, but that’s normal for curls.

MehMehMeow · 10/08/2020 23:09

I’d agree that it’s unfortunate that you felt compelled to respond here @CurlyHairedWoman, but it’s an outcome of the censorship policy on the group. Susie, if you’re ready, maybe the hair and glasses posters could make a brief comment about their goal (“Try a new colour”, “Want to try a short style” etc) I will say that I hadn’t commented on your hairstyle as I was in the fence; I’m envious of curls and your hair colour, but I’ve got thick, long, unmanageable hair so did think your previous do might be challenging. The lady who has changed from a brunette to a blonde doesn’t suit her hair colour. It could be the hairdressers interpretation of the hair analysis

My opinion still stands on my overall poor experience of SBS. The analysis was badly written, felt scripted and it gave me little to work with. The PDFs was also bad quality, photos copied off the internet (so breach of the website/ photographers copyright), and barely any text. If SBS had been honest about what would be provided, I wouldn’t have purchased the service.

Parentinglark · 10/08/2020 23:14

Can i ask how you became aware of your hair being discussed here. I am assuming from your username you are new to this site?

Pruitt · 10/08/2020 23:40

I’m confused as to why it’s relevant how the person who’s hair is being slated found the post on a forum open to the whole internet just in case you weren’t aware and to a group of parents tearing a woman down for how she has chosen to style HER hair. It is hair which means it will grow back, it’s already been stated why she specifically chose to have her hair cut shorter and why a woman should have to justify that to a forum of strangers is completely beyond me.

Parentinglark · 10/08/2020 23:48

& I am confused why you have chosen to come on and question why aomeone has a question & then to go off on an absolute rant. I am guessing we will both been confused and nothing has been gained

MehMehMeow · 10/08/2020 23:51

I’m not sure if the comment is directed at me, but I’m not suggesting those with hair analysis do post their goals here, but within the SBS group when posting their before and after shots. If someone looks shit with a rainbow hair colour and buzz cut but gave the hairstylist guidance saying they’re looking for something bright and cheerful, yet wash and go, then it’s (possibly) understandable. If the hairstylist suggests the same because they’ve been analysed as a girl next door with edge and the stylist thinks she’s got beautiful cheekbones, that’s vastly different. Those are extreme examples, but I hope you my point.

achillesratty · 11/08/2020 01:00

Susie must stamping her white, thick soled, trainer clad feet that women on here are daring to criticise her and her expensive cut and paste advice.

As she is so social media focused
you think she would have learnt by now you can't shut down criticism if it's justified. How can anyone learn what suits them if she insists everyone tells them they look fabulous even when they don't?

She should rename her business "The Emperor's New Clothes".

Standrewsschool · 11/08/2020 05:51

@curlyhairedwoman

I think your new hairstyle looks gorgeous.

@parentinglark - maybe she was an existing mn-etter or a friend saw it and mentioned it to her.

pontiouspilates · 11/08/2020 07:26

I've posted some constrictive cristisism over the last couple of days and have not been muted, deleted or had my knuckles rapped. As I said before, I think that SBS does provide a good service for many women who are not confident in their own sense of style. Me personally? I was hoping for so much more.

pontiouspilates · 11/08/2020 07:27

constructive thanks autocorrect!

PimlicoJo · 11/08/2020 07:41

@CurlyHairedWoman I think your new hairstyle is nice. You have fabulous hair and I'm very envious. I think most of the hair analysis is good.

I just wish Susie would realise that 'be kind' doesn't just mean saying lovely things. Constructive criticism can be a good thing.

And style is not about turning every woman into clones. Style is about giving a woman a steer on what will suit her and make her feel good, and giving her the confidence to find those things and express her style. Not telling everyone they need chunky white trainers. That's fashion, not style.

corpsebrid3 · 11/08/2020 08:28

I am really drawn to this group - I joined the sisterhood one on Facebook because it's really nice to see how other people are getting on and learn from their tips.

But what struck me was that other plus size women (like me) weren't flattering their shape and the fashion seemed to be dominating the style iyswim. I was aghast at some of the recommendations and would have liked to comment "try this" rather than "what you were thinking" but the group is only positive comments only so what's the point?

eggofmantumbi · 11/08/2020 08:33

I don't think it is positive comments only though? I've said things don't suit people a few times in the last week/ old glasses suited better and all my comments are still there.

I do think if someone has chopped a load of hair off or dyed it and you tell them it looked better before and that's it, well that's not really kind.

Jdhshekr · 11/08/2020 08:39

@CurlyHairedWoman I love your hair at its new length. It suits you so much better and the curls are still gorgeous. I do think the hair analysis is generally good. I’ve only seen a couple that I haven’t been impressed with.

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/08/2020 09:01

@CurlyHairedWoman I have hair that is very similar to yours (as does my daughter) and I went for the chop years ago. Yes, it is lovely hair if you don’t have to look after it but I would wash my hair in the morning and it would still not be completely dry in the evening! I suspect yours is the same. Mine is a bit shorter than yours - one tip from me would be not to go too much shorter. I had a short layered bob and the curls went crazy. I looked like I had a wild pompom on my head. The current length looks just right on you. Smile

@CurlyHairedWoman
Just wanted t to say that I think your hair looks great! I’m also sorry you felt the need to justify yourself here. There have been some childish, catty comments about the hairdressers services on SBS. It is good to get your perspective and I’m glad you were happy with the service. I hope you weren’t offended by the unkind comment about it looking better before ...

Personally if I go to the hairdresser for the chop and a random bloody stranger tells me my hair looked better BEFORE I’d consider that comment unnecessary and unkind and I’d totally ignore it and the random stranger.

However Susie didn’t need to delete that comment on Facebook and make a huge ding dong. It says MUCH more about the bitchy person that made the comment than a person’s new haircut. I would have left the comment with a note from the moderator asking what they were trying to achieve with their comment? Most reasonable people will see the bitchiness behind a comment like that.

Also, as for the other comments on here, we’re all adults, not 14 year old high school kids. We need to own our style! The service that Susie provides is good value for money with advice, hints, ideas that we can take on board OR NOT! It’s our choice. And if we are plus size for example, we can post on the Facebook group and ask for advice or ask that other plus size women post too and when they don’t, we go back or we try again to find what we’re looking for. I’m guessing that some of the comments on this thread are hiding deep feelings of insecurity and low self esteem.

For someone considering an analysis but has been put off by this thread, yes it CAN be hit and miss, like anything. It’s like ANY service. We have ALL had at least one experience at the hairdressers when we haven’t been 100% happy with the cut, colour, style. It happens. Susie provides a reasonably priced service compared to colour me beautiful or house of colour. Also you get out what you put in. Send good photos, give clear details of what you’re looking for, etc.

My only problem with SBS is the after sales service. Any business or service that doesn’t allow for an after sales feedback possibility and follow up, isn’t optimal. However we are all adults here. It’s up to us to push for that. If you get shabby service anywhere I would hope women would assertively and politely explain and then request some sort of response. I think Susie is badly advised by whoever (PR agent?) and reacts too quickly to things sometimes. She comes across as defensive so people see that and attack. However she HAS built up a successful business in a short space of time and her business is young and she is still learning. I commend her for that.

I hope that someone considering an analysis hasn’t been too put off. If you do it, you will at least have some ideas for new clothes, colours and inspiration. If you’re not happy, send an email to Susie explaining why.
Also the analysis will NOT change your life or your body confidence- only YOU can do that. Own it. Good luck.

FlasknTea · 11/08/2020 10:19

@LegoCardSwapper totally agree. The analysis gives pointers that can be taken on board or not.
Oh yes, @Vauxhallvulva comment was bitchy and uncalled for. So easy to do that from behind a screen. The choice of words are interesting: “mumsy, middle of the road and depressing...” I wonder who she’s really talking to?!

CurlyHairedWoman · 11/08/2020 10:21

I had to sleep on my response to some of the more insensitive comments here. I wasn’t very sure I was going to give you a response at all.

But I wanted to say it louder, for the people in the back. I am HAPPY with the service I received. I am HAPPY with MY hair and MY glasses. I am HAPPY with who I am as a person.

My appearance is not the most important thing to me. I don’t want to spend hours doing my hair (far more hours than the average hair style would take someone) just because someone on the internet thinks it could look like my ‘crowning glory’.

I would much rather spend that time with my infant son, so if my new hair (which I like) is deemed ‘Mumsy’ by some individuals on an Internet forum, then that is absolutely fine by me. Then guess what? I’m a PROUD mum.

Morally, whilst I believe in the freedom of speech (and I can tolerate other people’s derogatory comments), I also completely value kindness, humanity and even common decency. Kind traits are much more valuable to me than vanity.

It’s obvious, from this forum, that kindness isn’t valued to everyone above vanity; if it was I wouldn’t be here, almost having to justify a choice I made. It seems unfair to me that some people think it’s okay to take a tiny bit of information and then make derogatory comments about someone’s appearance. There is a difference between constructive comments, and plain rudeness & bullying.

So I want to make you an absolutely serious, and genuine offer. Video call me, using your real name, your real email address and let me publicly record your comments about my shocking glasses or mumsy hair to share on a public forum. Take ownership of your words. I’ll say it again, I am happy with who I am.

If you cannot say it publicly to my face, using your real identify, then do NOT say it hidden behind an anonymous alias, a keyboard and a computer screen because that makes you feel better.

Well said @CurlyHairedWoman you've nailed it, really eloquently. I had to search your post out to see what everyone was getting their knickers in a twist about and I have to say (not that you give a shit) I really like it. Enjoy your new son and the additional time you have to snuggle now your hair is more manageable!!

FlasknTea · 11/08/2020 10:34

@CurlyHairedWoman
I am so with you here!
Again you do NOT need to justify your appearance AT ALL! You look great! And it’s YOUR hair, your appearance. So what if someone doesn’t like it. The bitchy comments say all you need to know about the people commenting than they would ever say about your hair.

I’m all for freedom of speech too but I will face a bully full on when I have to and have done many a time.
So against the catty, childish bullying comments you received, I stand with you and I am sure others do too.
Also those who sent screenshots of this thread to Susie, I have no words ... cruel, uncalled for insidious bullying in the guise of helping out. Some people need to find a purpose in life that isn’t about hurting others. If you get off on hurting others, get help.
