Hi all, I've been following the tribe group on Facebook for a while but just wondering if anyone here has tried it. I can't seem to get to the bottom of what they advise, seasons etc. Is there something similar closer to London. And she keeps advising chunky trainers, is this a thing now?

@Flappergasted

Another woman with gorgeous long hair mumbobbed.
I definitely disagree with you about this one - the shorter length suits her so much better and makes her face look fresher and prettier. I honestly think that unless long hair is exceptionally beautiful hair in excellent condition, it doesn’t do anyone any favours.
Flappergasted · 08/08/2020 13:10

Then I suppose get it into good condition? I just utterly loathe a mumbob. They are ubiquitous. They scream respectable, comfortable middle age. I'm in my 70's and have hair down my back and it's awesome.

Flappergasted · 08/08/2020 13:10

70's??? 60!!

Flappergasted · 08/08/2020 13:10

Do they all have the same belt, BTW?

MulberryPeony · 08/08/2020 13:11

I think Emily’s lipstick suit her (and I’ve bought some myself).

I think it is maybe giving people the confidence to try out new things @Flappergasted? Same with those hair bows. If the owner thinks she rocks it who are we to disagree?

I’m currently following another FB fashion page and there is a much greater variety of styles (and you can be a bit more honest with constructive feedback) and budgets. You see a lot of repetition on the SBS I think because a certain dress or pair of shoes is recommended everyone seizes on it. Puma calis and chunky DM sandals the case in point. It actually puts me off the item if I’m honest Blush

But even if it had been in amazing condition, it wasn’t doing her face any favours. The shorter length makes her looks so much prettier, and not just a woman with long hair. I do think they’re right nearly every time with hair analysis as I’ve only seen about 3 that I thought weren’t great.

I’ve got a very short pixie style. I would love to grow it out to a bob but I just can’t persevere. I actually have thought about having a hair analysis. Not for the style but more for the colour.

Standrewsschool · 08/08/2020 14:55

@coniferhedge - lockdown has made my pixie grow out! Also considered it before but never persevered.

I think the curly haired lady looks great with shorter hair, and it’s not really, really short. Makes her look younger.

ohmygiddiest · 08/08/2020 15:34

A good hairdresser will be able to advise on hair colour, it is in their interest to do so. There are also plenty of free resources on the internet which will be a better source if information than Styled by Susie.

If you are long in the face, long hair will usually drag your face down. Again, just spend 10 minutes on pinterest or whatever.

The lady with the curly hair does look better with that haircut, however it's an awful shame that they have ruined the new look with yet another shocking glasses analysis.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/08/2020 18:02

I have a Mum Bob. I have very curly hair. If it was short I’d have to change my name to Doreen and go to Shirley every week for a shampoo and set.

evilharpy · 09/08/2020 08:38

I have a bob at the moment. It's just above shoulder length and very blunt. I hope it's not mumsy.

Re the overgrown toddlers, I know some people get allocated "Parisian" style personality. In my head that would look something like the Sezane website, no dungarees and head bows, I'm curious now so off to have a look.

Re the hair analyses, a SBS group post popped up on my timeline where a lady had cropped her hair and dyed it pink. She looks stunning and if that was the result of a hair analysis it was definitely worth it.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 09/08/2020 09:19

I still maintain that I am happy with the services I paid for (apart from an online shop which really was not me at all). I am more confident to try different styles than I ever was before.

Yes, I could have asked my hairdresser for new style advice, but I fancied another opinion, and pinterest wouldn't necessarily have shown me what styles actually suited me. I'm happy with my make-up analysis too. Its made me braver about adding colour and I'm really enjoying playing aroud with different looks.

@MulberryPeony what is the facebook fashion page you follow please?

Ironfloor269 · 09/08/2020 09:21

Ok, I've now been blocked from commenting because I mentioned what beautiful hair a lady had before chopping it all off based on a hair analysis. I'll go sit in the naughty step. 😂😂

Ironfloor269 · 09/08/2020 09:22

*on, not in

Juancornetto · 09/08/2020 10:26

I left the SBS Facebook page but have joined one set up by DMBL40. It also has that weirdly positive vibe and a complete obsession with trainers and summer dresses - which can look great but so often ends up looking shit

Juancornetto · 09/08/2020 10:37

Actually, saying it looks shit was a horrible way to describe it, I should have said it doesn't always look massively stylish

Squiffany · 09/08/2020 10:41

@Viviene

I left the group some time ago as I found no matter how crap someone looked in an outfit, the comments were always along the lines of 'omg you look great'. Well if I am posting a picture of a hideous outfit I want someone to tell me I am being silly and not artificially increase my confidence so that I can go out looking like a clown.

I haven't been styled as she seems to like high street and I try to focus on basic, sustainably made clothes.

This is why I stopped looking at the Mrs Gloss fab page. Slap it on with a trowel and wear clothes 2 sizes too small? OMG hun, you look fabulous!

I loved it when it first started up and learned such a lot (and bought such a lot too), which is a shame.

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/08/2020 11:28

where do you see the before and after pics of those that have been “helped”
All I can see is pictures of the stylists in outfits that really don’t do a great deal to make me think they would have any sort of style guidance for anyone beyond a teenager

They upload the photos themselves on to the Facebook page. Typically, a before picture and after picture side by side. Mostly for hair analyses and glasses analyses.
MulberryPeony · 09/08/2020 12:31

@Ifonlyiweretaller same one as @Juancornetto by DMBL40. Some very similar outfits admittedly but people genuinely looking for advice rather. Every time I’ve given advice on SBS I feel like I’m stepping out of line especially when they have been analysed wrongly in the first place!

ohmygiddiest · 09/08/2020 13:01

Trainers and dresses don't go together 90% of the time, and certainly not with ill fitting prom dresses.

If you can work out your face shape (plenty of free guides online), the you can have a look at the free guides which tell you what hair styles suit your face shape. I cannot imagine a proper professional hair stylist with any sort of credibility advising anybody to dye their hair pink.

@Ironfloor269 that's pretty pathetic of them to block you from commenting, but I'm not surprised at all.

A styling service should be about helping you identify garments and colours that actually suit you and make the best the best of your features, not give you confidence to try new styles that might not necessarily work for you. This is why I strongly object to that FB echo chamber. Most women don't look better, they are just full of false confidence.

As for the 'Parisian' category - I haven't seen on example of parisian style on SBS, it is a very sophisticated style than cannot be created on the cheap with garish polyester items.

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/08/2020 13:19

Ironfloor269

I was looking on the FB page. Initially I thought the people on there were the before pics and thought these people need serious help.
Then I realised these were the stylists.

Summer dresses and trainers are ok on someone below the age of 35 (unless you look really really young and are tall and slim)

Short fat and nearly 60 with just a bandana in my hair (let alone a short summer dress and chunky trainers) and I am old enough to know I am veering into the mutton and lamb territory

TuckMyWin · 09/08/2020 13:26

@Oliversmumsarmy, it's the Facebook group (as opposed to the page) that people who aren't the stylists upload their before and after photos to. Styled by Susie sisterhood, I think it is called now.

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/08/2020 14:00

I don’t have a computer so can’t join as apparently I need to tick some boxes which don’t show up on my phone.

I will just have to content myself with the FB page.

Still got Borderline playing in my head when I look at it.
