Styled by Susie - anyone done it?

Hi all, I've been following the tribe group on Facebook for a while but just wondering if anyone here has tried it. I can't seem to get to the bottom of what they advise, seasons etc. Is there something similar closer to London. And she keeps advising chunky trainers, is this a thing now?

stopfundinghate what about white vs cream? If you try both next to your face in natural light you might be able to see. If not then you might be neutral (only very slightly warm or cool) and I think you would definitely need a professional analysis in person.

EndlessUserName · 22/07/2020 15:01

I suppose cream but only just. I actually really like wearing white t shirts and jewel colours which is why I was so surprised when she said autumn... However I have tried lots of the autumn colours since and I can see that they suit. I kind of figured that I would have autumn colours in mind but also just to buy whatever I liked anyway if I felt.like it suited Smile

I find it quite depressing that some people have no idea what suits them at all , I guess something like styled by susie is good for someone with zero idea of that but I’m so stubborn about stuff I like I can’t imagine anyone even trying to style me , if I signed up for a stylist I’d want to be challenged a bit .

autumnhare · 22/07/2020 16:32

It is really strange for a company not to have any way to review their service without it being vetted by 'admin' first. Susie does strike me as someone who just can't cope with any kind of criticism which is tricky when you run your own business.

It would be good to have a thread on the group for constructive criticism or like a previous poster suggested an email questionnaire sent.

@ichifanny I wanted help with getting out of my comfort zone and naively was taken in by all the amazing things people said on her page. It was money wasted (online shop I mean...not too bothered about the analysis) and I could kick myself for it

yes! A questionnaire. I also think it is damaging to not acknowledge someone's concerns or worries etc

I have had an analysis some years ago from Susie and I really valued the advice, but I was someone who literally had no clue. It does make shopping a lot easier for me but I am not as fashion-informed as many of you here on S&B.

I'm in the FB group but I tend to just look for posts from the stylists, I follow some of them of them on Insta too as they often include useful advice.

I don't think the aim is to have us all looking the same, I think the group is sometimes a bit of a curse as they do tend to adopt tips from each other and it's not always a well-advised approach.

TrashPandaTime · 22/07/2020 17:35

For me I think the trends that the tribe seem to like just aren’t “me”.

My style goals are to look put together and chic, whilst also looking like me and being comfortable. I want colleagues and friends to think I look interesting but also sophisticated.

The tribe like dungarees and those weird headband bows (I forget the name), and neither to me say sophisticated or chic.

There is the odd thing that I see and like though so I stay for them!

weareyoung · 23/07/2020 15:35

@Cherrypie32

Oh I think Susie def read this thread when it was in full swing, to the point of planting a few comments (either herself or via someone else) regarding the stylists and business model. SBS fills a gap in the sense that it’s clearly personal styling for the masses. The ‘tribe’ works for those that really have no creativity or confidence when it comes to dressing (or just need the boost of 93 platitudes saying ‘ you look amazing hun’ to get out the house every morning) That’s great and their ‘stylists’ are very relatable to the average woman, a very clever move on Susie’s behalf. But I find her Svengali like status unbearable, if you follow her on Insta it is almost like the ramblings of a cult leader. I feel that her business is mostly about massaging her ego than genuinely helping the girl next door.
Of course she reads this thread. There have been several indirect but blindingly obvious responses to some of the comments here on her Instagram.

And yy to the Svengali point. It makes me cringe. Although I do note that of late, she's stopped pointing out when things 'sell out' after an SBS recommendation. She went through a phase of claiming that it was the 'Styled by Susie effect!!' whenever the latest fast fashion she had promoted went out of stock on a retailers website. Fucking awful self-promotion.

@TrashPandaTime yes this!! Do you get your inspiration from anywhere else instead then?
TrashPandaTime · 25/07/2020 10:51

@stopfundinghate I read whowhatwear even though I general I find it irritating. It’s very current though so I feel like I’m still in the loop with what’s “in”.

I also sometimes read the female fashion advice subreddit, although it’s very American centric and since Covid I’ve found it even slower moving that normal.

Honesty ichi I had no idea and felt so lost. I guess people like SBS capitalise on that. I feel a bit silly about it now Blush

Anyway, my Stitch Fix order came yesterday - thanks for the referral code @lockdownalli. I am keeping it all!!

In my head I was hoping I would be able to keep at least one thing so I could take advantage of the £15 off from lockdownalli, plus get my £10 stylist fee back, so it was a very pleasant surprise that it was all so spot on.

There were things I would have chosen for myself, plus other things I definitely wouldn't have chosen, because in my head I am still much bigger than I actually am now, or because it's just not what I usually wear. So I feel suitably stretched and very smart!! My 5 items cost £154 because I set my limits at the lowest price point but I might up my standards the next time. Off out this afternoon for lunch with mates and will feel smart and put together rather than worried I look a state.

re the "Colours/Seasons" thing. I did mine online and came out as a Summer. This does seem to suit me. I am so pale I am almost blue!

About a week ago there was a lady who had a glasses analysis done and expressed her doubts as she thought the suggested frames were too big for her. They absolutely were and a few members had the decency to tell her so. In responses SBS turned the comments off!

Can't people leave reviews in the main facebook page though? Or trustpilot? Surely they cannot delete those reviews or am I missing something?

ChequerBoard · 26/07/2020 14:09

Earlier this week there was a list by one of the stylists with 3 photos showing her 'progression' to being a susie-style icon. In all 3 photos she was wearing the same denim dress.

In photo one she looked lovely, denim dress, nice necklace and loafers, hair shiny and a lovely natural brown, light natural makeup. An understated smart everyday look.

In photo two she had added a hair band with a bow and lightened her hair. A bit lore makeup and a brighter lip colour. Still looked Ok but less polished than photo 1.

In photo 3 she had fully bleached her hair, added a leather jacket to the now faded and bleached denim dress and put on red shoes (wedges espadrilles with fancy cross cross bows). Full makeup and a bright red lip. The overall look was messy and a bit try-hard.

I had to look several times because in first glance I had assumed photo 3 was the before shot and photo 1 the after shot.

I was wrong and this is why this group is not for me, I thought she looked so much better and younger in photo 1!

ohmygiddiest · 26/07/2020 15:05

@ChequerBoard I've just had another look at that post and completely agree with you. She looks nice in the first pic, the 2nd pic would be better if those shoes were brown and the make up toned down. The 3rd is absolutely awful. Her eye make up is far too heavy in all three pics too.

I have seen two absolute shockers of glasses analysis’ recently. I think one is the same one you are referring to - a lady who was concerned that they were all too wide (which they were and quite a few people picked up on this). The other about 3-4 weeks ago - for this one, I thought that the before photo was the after photo as the glasses she’d started with looked so much better. The ones she was recommended looked truly awful.
Possiblywickedandlazy · 26/07/2020 16:46

On the plus side, I don’t think I’ve seen a bad hair analysis yet. Only one in which the woman had clearly misinterpreted the shade of brown that the stylist had suggested she dyed her hair to. Generally these seem very good.

Bluecarrot · 26/07/2020 17:13

I didn't understand what I was getting with the analysis really. Everything it told me I'd already known from browsing pinterest. In fact I'd said I already knew my colouring and shape in the form because I was expecting it to be personalised rather than a few standard pdf forms. I feel cross every time I think about it!

evilharpy · 26/07/2020 17:26

@ChequerBoard Do you remember which stylist? I'm interested to see the post but can't find it.

ohmygiddiest · 26/07/2020 17:29

@evilharpy It's Sarah - if you click on the 'Stylists outfit of the day' tab and just scroll down a bit - it's the 24th July post

evilharpy · 26/07/2020 17:30

Ah never mind, found it! I like the first one best too.

evilharpy · 26/07/2020 17:31

@ohmygiddiest thanks - I was too slow and cross posted!

ChequerBoard · 26/07/2020 17:31

@evilharpy it's was a post from Sarah Lilly, posted 2 days ago now.

evilharpy · 26/07/2020 17:32

I just clicked on that "stylist outfit of the day" thing. There seem to be loads of stylists now, I had no idea Susie had expanded so much.

ohmygiddiest · 26/07/2020 17:34

Perhaps we could turn this around by creating a dedicated thread where we could help each other find our shapes/styles and post outfits for honest, constructive comments? Or even a private facebook group? Any thoughts on this?
