Styled by Susie - anyone done it?

Hi all, I've been following the tribe group on Facebook for a while but just wondering if anyone here has tried it. I can't seem to get to the bottom of what they advise, seasons etc. Is there something similar closer to London. And she keeps advising chunky trainers, is this a thing now?

“First rule in marketing : a happy customer will tell three people but an unhappy customer will tell ten.”

So true FlasknTea, as evidenced by this thread being top on google when you search “styled by susie reviews” (unless that’s my google knowing I’ve posted here etc!). This situation could have been easily avoided by allowing feedback, taking it on board, and communicating properly with the posters here and others that are unhappy when they complain.

unluckyagain · 08/03/2020 11:01

@Flaskntea. I agree. I think the business model is good and I was tempted to do a shop with a stylist. I've been discouraged by having a comment deleted on the Facebook page because I disagreed with something even though the comment was not unkind or negative.

Cherrypie32 · 08/03/2020 11:25

So instead PR have resurrected the sunglasses story so Susie can whoop about getting another 200 followers today. Why not listen to customers.

MabelMoo23 · 08/03/2020 12:23

I absolutely agree, it’s a great idea, but feedback needs listening to. I’ve watched the video Susie put up about negativity, and I do get what she’s saying. But this isn’t about negative wording, it’s about constructive feedback regarding a service that customers have paid for.

Susie is great, and I love the idea, but seriously her PR manager - (who I have no doubt is reading this - and if she isn’t, she’s a pretty poor PR manager) - needs to stop rehashing stories in the press and encourage looking at the feedback

My analysis and my online shop were 18 months apart and I was pleased with my analysis but this was back when it was just Susie and Sarah. But online shop, meh, really underwhelming

FlasknTea · 08/03/2020 12:32

@mabelMoo23 so right about the PR person. Isn't she an ex Daily Fail journo btw. She needs to address the core brand of the business. Re- hashing gimmicky videos is cheap.

MabelMoo23 · 08/03/2020 13:31

@flasknTea - yep, ex Daily Mail.

Honestly rehashing stories to "get the positivity" out there is just lazy PR

happytobemrsg · 08/03/2020 13:36

I agree that SBS best serves women who lack confidence in their style. If you already know what suits you etc then it’s not going to help you. I needed my confidence boosting & some pointers on best cuts for my shape (I was already drawn to the autumnal colours they suggested for me). SBS massively helped me at the start but less so now that I feel confident picking clothes for myself. I’ve not had any issues so I’ve not tried to give any feedback. It’s all been positive for me.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 15:11

When I see thinks like the sneaky advertising and ignoring negative reviews it just reminds me I would never recommend the service to anyone.

NoBoojustNo · 08/03/2020 16:12

I joined the fb group after reading about SBS on here. Honestly it's not a great advert for the brand. Some of the pictures need constructive criticism so these women don't leave the house looking unstylish when they've paid for a service to be styled correctly.

I was considering getting one of the packages because age has changed my shape and hair and although I'm fairly confident with my style I thought maybe I'd get some extra advice. But the thought of being recommended statement jewellery, biker jackets and slogan tees made me run for the hills because I'm not wanting to turn in to a Wallis clone.

I'll go to JL or Debs personal shoppers instead.

StealthNinjaMum · 09/03/2020 14:41

@SpeckledyHen if you google something like ‘what body shape am i’ You’ll find tools that tell you what you are if you punch your measurements in. I did it and it said I was a rectangle although I think i’m just on the cusp of being hourglass as I have similar bum and boob measurements and a smaller waist.

When I need style inspiration I just google something like ‘what jeans should an hourglass or rectangle wear?’ I wish more women had the confidence to do that rather than rely on Susie.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 09/03/2020 14:43

Oh thank goodness for this thread. I was really beginning to doubt myself. I've followed SBS for a few years now. Mainly because she came highly recommended by a FB mums group I'm in. I've always considered myself to be fairly stylish, but was curious when I heard so much praise for her. I really didn't like her style at all. I find it very immature and the women in her group are like sheep. If she says a sequin bum bag is the must have item, they all go to get it. Dinosaur blouse from Sainsbury's and suddenly they're all raving about it. I do feel really bad for many of the women posting in the group, as a lot could really benefit from some honest feedback that could elevate their outfits. Some really just aren't good. Yet the replies of "you look amazing" "you rock that" "where's it from please?" come fast and furious. It was all too falsely positive and moderated. Which got me thinking - have I just gone mad? Have I in fact got no style? What do others think. So I googled her and reviews and here I am! After reading this entire thread over a few days I feel so much better knowing she really isn't all that and so much of it is like the rest of the Internet. Contrived and fake, just to look good for the rest of the Internet.

I do question some of the body shapes that they stylists have even given themselves.

Did anyone see the post yesterday from a woman in a lovely dress claiming she's a winter apple? She looked very much an hourglass or possibly pear to me. I don't think an apple could pull that dress off the way she has 🤔

Spam88 · 09/03/2020 15:23

It makes me really sad actually when women post asking for advice and everyone tells them they look amazing, they've got it spot on etc etc when actually they don't and they could do some simple things to make it look better :(

And an astonishing number of women are hourglasses.

Broadwayb · 09/03/2020 15:47

winegetsmethroughit I thought the same - hourglass not apple. And that dress looked so good on her but was too tight. Nobody pointed that out which would have been helpful. Today we have had a summer posting a pic in which she’s wearing autumn colours and has very autumnal coloured hair. Do they just not explain it very well?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 09/03/2020 16:16

@Broadwayb someone actually did mention it looked a bit tight and she replied that it wasn't. I was actually surprised the feedback comments were even allowed by admin! Perhaps the comments on here about the group and 'over moderating' are being taken on board.

About the summer girl though, I do think she could be a summer albeit with the completely wrong hair colour for her skin tone. Obviously she's chosen that for herself (fine) and it appears as though she likes to dye her hair a lot of unnatural colours, but a softer cooler colour would look better and then not clash with the summer colours for her wardrobe. But right now she's dressing like an Autumn.

Broadwayb · 09/03/2020 16:48

Yes - that’s what I mean. She’s been analysed correctly in this case I think but obviously doesn’t understand the analysis colours so I was wondering if it’s not explained clearly enough.

TrashPandaTime · 09/03/2020 18:30

Tbh I can’t believe the colour analysis is explained well at all. In my opinion it isn’t something you can do or explain without being face to face.

Seeing the subtleties of what is a warm blue vs a cool blue is hard even when you have someone draping you in front of a mirror, let alone from a photo in a pdf. I also think it’s dead cheeky that swatches aren’t included in the price.

Hannahlouise4026 · 10/03/2020 16:52

I agree, I don’t understand how they can analyse based on a photograph. I follow another style/colour analysis account called red leopard on Instagram. Granted they are probably triple the price but it’s an in person thing rather than via photograph. It’s fascinating to watch how certain colours totally change a persons features and skin tone. Surely it has to be done in person?!

Possibly people aren’t understanding the colour analysis - they get emailed the colours of their season, see that it contains a blue and think “great, blue suits me” without realising that there are many different types of blue perhaps? I am pretty good at identifying whether colours are warm or cool and which season they fall into but that’s probably because my mum had a few Color Me Beautiful books which I used to read as a child - maybe if I hadn’t got used to it then I wouldn’t be able to see it as easily now?

FlasknTea · 10/03/2020 19:25

Just read a post by a stylist post before it got deleted by the MNHQ team and it actually made me realise WHY Susie is popular. She is personable, relatable and affordable. All great brand values. It's just a shame she doesn't take feedback on board.

Mydogatemypurse · 10/03/2020 19:27

Why bother just buy a sainsbury's jump suit that makes you look pregnant and ugly shoes.

Mydogatemypurse · 10/03/2020 19:30

Winegetsmethroughit
I thought the same. Vulnerable lonely women with little confidence buying weird and unsuitable outfits that make them look shit. But they are really pleased because everyone else who is wearing the same stuff is telling them they look great.
It's not good. Some look really terrible and have spent a lot of money to do so.

outofyourhands · 11/03/2020 09:46

Instagram post from Susie this morning on why she styles Strawberry shapes differently, of course complete with a rave review from a client. Hmm

Parentinglark · 11/03/2020 10:30

"Goes against the grain" ????? Trinny Woodall has been giving those same tips for years. & its not like the advice is wrong in itself its just theres just many ways to skin a cat. The advice also would be tailored to many other things not just shape. Height plays a large part so you arnt gonna stick a petite strawberry in voluminous trousers or skirts. Am all for self promotion but theres something off about the way SBS goes about for me sometimes.
