Nota I think they have done it for a while, they definitely did the top & the dress last year.

notastealthboast · 25/08/2019 16:40

Oh ok hopefully they will next year then - thank you!

Talisin · 25/08/2019 16:54

Short but interesting piece on Hush in the Guardian.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/08/2019 18:44

Interesting article.
I like them because they like surfing, but I have been made redundant four times and in total my payout has been £2,200. How did she get £40,000 on ONE redundancy.
And the age range 35-45? That's me out.
Grrr!

Laska2Meryls · 25/08/2019 18:48

I have ordered this Jigsaw Pea coat colar may be a bit big but thought I'd try.. also the largest size was a 14, and with my shoulders / bust it may be too small.. but if it works, then its less than half the price of the Toast ones.

I have also ordered these beach trousers I was thinking of them before I went on hols but the price put me off . And the bag Blush although I dont need it , just thought it would be rude not to !

Laska2Meryls · 25/08/2019 18:54

And me fuzzy! I am nearly 62!! if i was to be made redundant id get statutory minimum, 1.5 weeks for every year I have worked for them (12 years in my case) capped at £525 pw. (public sector.. So diddly squat in my case)

taybert · 25/08/2019 19:16

Interesting that they don’t want to be about fast fashion when the biggest problem people have with them is quality and longevity. I think they’re getting it right with sustainability in terms of style, but the quality is too hit and miss.

Laska2Meryls · 25/08/2019 19:33

I agree, the quality, finish and fabrics have really gone downhill recently. Especially compared to when I first started buying from them a few years ago . But the prices have risen and the refund time is shocking now.. Also the styles over the last few seasons haven't really moved on much I think..

I have become quite disillusioned by Hush in the past couple of seasons ..

...having said that , if they were to do the crew neck wide top in navy this year , I will be buying that ! (dont like the v neck one )

dontcallmelen · 25/08/2019 19:53

Yy if they want longevity, then they need to look at quality control a bit more, I was also a bit wtf at forty grand payoff.
Ooh fabulous coat & trousers Laska

justilou1 · 26/08/2019 07:24

Love the coat, @Laska2Meryls! Can see it coming in handy on the ferry! The trousers have sold out, so no photo available. You’ll have to model them for me. I know your style is exquisite, so I’m certain they’re fab too!

Ellapaella · 26/08/2019 08:52

That's an interesting interesting article. I agree that Hush style hasn't really changed much since it began. I first started to like Hush back in 2010 after my 2nd son was born. I loved the casual sloppy jumper and cosy boots look, the effortlessly stylish look. But even back then quality was hit and miss. Knitwear wasn't great quality for the price.
In 2010 I was in my early 30's and Hush was way out of my price range, could only afford a few things in the sale.
I can't understand why they're aiming at the 35-45 age range as that seems very limited!

ilovecherries · 26/08/2019 09:09

It is an interesting article. I think the 35-45 thing is because no one wants to be seen as targeting older women, unless they are one of the stereotypical older brands. You only have to look for a moment at the constant casual ageism on MN. ‘Nana shoes’, ‘mutton’ etc etc to understand why brands body swerve saying they are aiming at an older market. Even Boden, M&S etc are desperate to position themselves for a younger audience.

Laska2Meryls · 26/08/2019 09:33

yes , so far pretty everyone I have seen wearing Hush (which hasn't been that many tbh) is probably 40 or older! the last one was definitely about my age (and looking fab)

Ellapaella · 26/08/2019 10:07

Makes sense that they Australian surfers... Hush has always been surf style for grownups. Kind of mature Roxy, Billabong etc.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/08/2019 10:55

Spot on cherries. I'm 61 and the kind of things that are marketed at my age group I just wouldn't wear. I think it's a wider problem with ageism in society though and one that people seem disinclined to challenge. There's so often MN posts about "old gits" or "the elderly" and I assmue these same people wouldn't speak in the same terms about race or disability. Which is a shame, as increasing age is the one thing (barring accidents) that they can be sure of. Maybe that's it...people are just really afraid of growing old?

ilovecherries · 26/08/2019 11:41

Yup, I’m 61 as well. I went to what was advertised as an over 55 fitness class recently. The music they played was war time stuff - lots of Vera lynn. And the exercise consisted of a lot of scarf wafting while sitting on a chair, and marching on the spot. Everyone there - mostly older than me - were rolling their eyes with a WTAF expression. My mum is 85 and even she would expect a bit of Elvis at a fitness class, not Vera lynn. ‘Old bat’ is such a common casual insult which wouldn’t be tolerated if it was addressed to any other group. And rightly so.

twosoups1972 · 26/08/2019 15:44

Hear hear @ilovecherries 61 is young! Perhaps we need to rethink the age brackets. An exercise class aimed at the older generation should not start at 55!

At the age of 47, I still refuse to accept I'm middle aged to the amusement of my family Grin

NotAnActualSheep · 26/08/2019 16:30

Yes - interesting article talisin - thanks! I agree the 35-45 thing is a bit of a weird and restrictive target... Mandy is older that, and she looks great in the jean/ blazer combo in the photo - and not at all like she's "dressing too young" or whatever! in fact, their style seems pretty ageless, I'd have thought. It doesn't strike me particularly as "something a 40 year old would wear" - and I wonder what aspect of it is considered more suitable for that demographic than someone who's 20 or 60 or 80? I appreciate that a lot of their marketing is done via social media - and that may be harder if the target market is much older - but why have such a target in the first place? Just say - these are our clothes....buy them if you like them and they fit... (disclaimer - I am not in marketing...and obviously never will be).

I like the sustainability ethos -but they will need to work on that a fair bit, I think, to bring their quality up to other "sustainable" brands (gudrun/ toast etc). It's all very well encouraging style rather than fast fashion (and I agree, hush is pretty good at that, in that their style doesn't noticeably change between years) - but if the clothes fall apart, shrink or stretch out of shape after one wash, it kind of defeats the object...

And wtf "over 55s" being considered to be wartime children??! Angry. My DM is nearly 80 and she wasn't vera lynn's contemporary!

Anyway - like the coat and trousers laska! Love the collar on the coat especially.

taybert · 26/08/2019 16:30

The concept of anything “over 55” is ridiculous- that could include three different generations! Probably better not to define anything by age- I’m a GP and I’ve got 60 year old patients who are a lot “older” some of my 90 year olds.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/08/2019 16:44

Where I used to live (Kent) there was an "Easy Sitting Down Exercise for the Over 50s" group. For heaven's sake....if you find movement difficult at any age then that should be available. It's terribly damaging ( to individuals, to society and to attitudes) to imply that once you hit 50 all you are good for is sitting an an armchair and singing war time songs. Really offensive!

Laska2Meryls · 26/08/2019 19:02

Im glad you like the collar on the pea coat not i wsnt too sure but its such a great price , I just had to.. LOL Grin about 'being great for the ferry' Just.. I'm from a RN family (Portsmouth) so I may get jibes...

Yes Fk MN ageism, (one day they will understand, once they have got over themselves and realised that we dont have to give up being vital women as we get older) .. I actually feel so much better about my body at 61 (although I am still quite hard on myself I know) than I did in my 20s and even 40s . I can still do absolutely everything I ever could!! (but some of it I am simply not that bothered about any longer Wink esp when it comes to having to 'behave' to please others )

Ok.. I have gone mad, but I have ordered this skirt as it seems to be selling fast (and I have FOMO ,as its the sort of skirt I have wanted for a while, but in a slightly darker shade maybe.) Then these trousers and another fab bamboo slip (I already have the slate one and its such a great piece, brilliant weight but also fluid), I have been wearing it as a lounging slip dress (at home) and a nightie.. its a total masterpiece basic IMHO and well worth the ££ ..

F It! its only money! (looks at slightly dwindling campervan fund), but with any luck I may be getting near the end of the inheritance battle

Laska2Meryls · 26/08/2019 19:07

I have ordered the skirt in persimmon ..

FuzzyPuffling · 26/08/2019 19:21

I love that skirt laska, I'd wear it with some lovely leather boots.

Huffthepuff · 26/08/2019 19:39

Oh that's lovely @Laska2Meryls gorgeous skirt

Laska2Meryls · 27/08/2019 08:46
