White jeans.... yes or no?

SleepingIsOverrated · 27/07/2019 08:12

So I've recently bought myself a pair of white jeans from River Island.

I'm 31, 5"6 and a size 12.

My (much) younger sister saw them and told me they were a fashion disaster, and a few comments on the AIBU boards are making me thing that's the general opinion.

So.... white jeans, yes or no?! I thought they'd be fab for summer with a bright top but now I'm not sure I want to wear them out in public!! Help!

I say yes

GeorgiaGirl52 · 27/07/2019 08:35

No. It's not you, it's the jeans.

SleepingIsOverrated · 27/07/2019 08:37

Two words: Liz Hurley

PersonaNonGarter · 27/07/2019 08:41

Are you Liz Hurley?

No, even if you are.

TheCraicDealer · 27/07/2019 08:47

I have them and love them. My DSis was a bit "wtf" when i lately produced a maternity pair Grin White jeans, plain coloured slouchy T-shirt and a pair of tan or gold sandals is one of my go-to summer outfits.

Lweji · 27/07/2019 08:51

Leopard print leggings would be a lot worse.

Wear what you like.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 27/07/2019 08:54

If you wear white jeans they will get food and drink stains, child stains, puppy pawprints, and generally dirt from living life. To keep them white you will be constantly washing and bleaching. That will get to be a hassle so you will hang them in your closet for "the right occasion" and wear your blue jeans. So just skip the first part and wear the blue one.
--- Maybe for a beach wedding with a colorful top? Grin

thedevilinablackdress · 27/07/2019 08:56

Off white, wide leg crop I could go for.

cocomelon23 · 27/07/2019 08:59

White jeans are hideous

barnyb · 27/07/2019 08:59

No

LuxuryWoman2018 · 27/07/2019 09:11

Yes, if they’re the right shape, they are very much around this summer.

newmomof1 · 27/07/2019 09:15

I've been wearing white three-quarter length (just below knee) jeans and I looked good (even if I do say so myself - I'm not normally very body confident so this was a bit thing for me).

However I did go to the hairdressers yesterday and left with a big black mark down the whole length of the back of my thigh which I didnt notice until about 4 hours later 🙄

Futureplanning · 27/07/2019 09:17

Sorry but they're a no for me.

They're just not very flattering and even my mother has recently declared them old fashioned and they've been her staple summer wardrobe for about 20 years.

fancynancyclancy · 27/07/2019 09:19

I just think of Liz Hurley too

Loveislandaddict · 27/07/2019 09:19

I wore some last week. If you like them, wear them.

Pipandmum · 27/07/2019 09:22

My very slim cousin (about 60?) wears white jeans almost exclusively. Never had kids (white jeans since her 20s) but I think she has a dog. She looks great but I always think she must be hyper vigilant.

Xiaoxiong · 27/07/2019 09:37

I just bought a pair this year and everyone has complimented me on them. I've been wearing them with dark navy and black linen, silk or viscose shirts with a front tuck. If big t-shirts, cycling shorts and massive white trainers are back then I think straight cut white jeans can be back too!

squeekywheel · 27/07/2019 09:38

I think they look shite on anyone but who cares what people think- wear what makes you happy.

HisBetterHalf · 27/07/2019 10:04

They look great for summer. Definitely yes

SleepingIsOverrated · 27/07/2019 10:56

Well I'm definitely not Liz Hurley Confused

Seems fairly divided... it's raining her now anyway so I guess I'll wait to brave them another day Grin

I think they look great in summer but depends what you wear them with. I wear them with flat tan sandals and neutral coloured tops (nothing too bright). Olive coloured tops look nice with them. I wore an olive, slouchy silk shirt from And Other Stories with my white jeans last week and got loads of compliments.

LucheroTena · 27/07/2019 11:03

Op sorry I’m one of the ones who said Liz Hurley. I’ve been thinking, for minimal Liz comparisons may wear them with dark / Navy coloured shirts, flat shoes. Avoid multi coloured tops (especially silk halter necks) and sparkly sandals / edges a’la Liz!

Sooverthemill · 27/07/2019 11:05

Wear them! If you lie how you look and feel then ignore her. I usually have a white pair of trousers or jeans fr summer and wear them as often as I can. Last summer not at all as we had a new puppy but this summer I've worn them out several times, tend not to wear them around the house

JeanMichelBisquiat · 27/07/2019 11:12

Not skinny jeans, but straight/boyfriend can look good. I have some slightly cream coloured ones from Uniqlo which I think look nice with roll-ups and tan sandals.

I think the key to them looking nice is:

  • not too tight
  • not too white (obv clean, though!)
  • not remotely see-through
  • gear rest of outfit so it doesn't look remotely "brassy" Grin
