White jeans.... yes or no?

So I've recently bought myself a pair of white jeans from River Island.

I'm 31, 5"6 and a size 12.

My (much) younger sister saw them and told me they were a fashion disaster, and a few comments on the AIBU boards are making me thing that's the general opinion.

So.... white jeans, yes or no?! I thought they'd be fab for summer with a bright top but now I'm not sure I want to wear them out in public!! Help!

So impractical for wearing on the legs. Will never be out the washing and haven't we all just been informed we wash everything too much. Apart from that, a bit dated even for me, almost the last person to follow anything in fashion.

Ellapaella · 27/07/2019 13:30

I think they look good depending on how and what you wear them with. With a pair of espadrilles and a navy blouse or light cotton sweater I'm sure they'd look lovely.
Not for me though as I am far too likely to get them covered in muck in the first 5 minutes of wearing.

Sooverthemill · 27/07/2019 14:53

manicmij if things are dirty you are supposed to wash them! The advice I thunk has been that we wash stuff like t shirts after just a few hours wear which is crazy and we should only wear when things are grubby ( I get three wears out of a t shirt usually unless it's hot and sweaty and I wash blue or black jeans after about 21 days wear at most)

Tbh cropped white jeans with sandals/ballet shoes and bright top could look amazing. I don’t wear them but just because I can’t keep them white and clean for more than 10 seconds. I never wear white for this reason.

Doobigetta · 27/07/2019 15:21

I love mine but I only wear them in the evening, I’m way too scruffy and spill-prone to risk attempting a whole day in them.

CointreauVersial · 27/07/2019 18:45

Love 'em! (I'm 52, size 10, 5'7")

Relaxed fit, good thick denim, cropped length, maybe rolled hem - look so summery with a dark teeshirt/shirt and tan sandals, or winterised with boots and a chunky black jumper.

Yes, they need washing more often, but so does anything white.

Pic 1. Liz in her heyday was partial to a bit of cruise wear
Pic 2 and 3. Are less Liz, a more modern take for now.

I would probably avoid skinny jeans but if you do then pair with much darker long slouchy top. Baggy jeans rolled up with flat shoes also could work.

I like them

Unburnished · 27/07/2019 19:20

It depends very much on what you look like. Are you toned? Nice shaped bum and legs? If so then go ahead but give them a turn up and wear with trainers to stop them looking old fashioned.

I prefer ecru or sand If I’m going to wear light jeans. I’d also say its not a good idea if you're anything other than model-like either.

Atlasta · 27/07/2019 19:24

I like them.

jay55 · 27/07/2019 19:43

Make me think of Princess Di.
But it's summer and (was) hot and if you feel good in them, wear them.

CoconutAmericano · 27/07/2019 20:05

I like them. I wear fairly thick ankle grazer white jeans that pull everything in, with tee shirts doing that ‘half tuck’ thing and I think I look nice lol! Maybe I dont, but I think I do, which is the important thing Smile

problem1234567 · 28/07/2019 14:20

I think you have to be very slim for them to look flattering purely because they're a light colour. I tried some on and they looked fantastic on the hanger but quite sausagey on me so I didn't buy.

White denim shorts are more forgiving as they obviously don't encase the leg in its entirety and are looser around the thigh.

Oly4 · 28/07/2019 14:36

I love them but you need to be a size 8-12

Runningonempty84 · 28/07/2019 17:21

Agree they only work on size 8 or 10s, and as part of an otherwise "classy" outfit - understated yet quality jewellery, flat sandals, perhaps a navy or khaki coloured T shirt.

Usually they look horribly unflattering, esp with bright coloured, cheap viscose-type tops. On holiday at the moment (in UK) and am seeing a lot of people in that sort of garb. Looks cheap, and white jeans also have the knack of making even slim legs look far bigger than they actually are.

An off-white chino though, rolled up to sit on the ankle, is far more flattering and looks good on most people IMO.

queenofarles · 28/07/2019 18:19

I wear them all the time even in winter, never skinnies , straight cropped legs are very flattering

ThatCurlyGirl · 28/07/2019 18:55

Ooh @IheartNiles those jeans and leopard sneakers are amazing - did you find it on Instagram and if so can you share the account it's on so I can try to work out how to buy them? No worries if not! 😍😍😍

MoltonSilver · 28/07/2019 19:11

White jeans yes, white skinny jeans no.

Delatron · 28/07/2019 19:28

They’re not dated as they’re back in fashion. Not skinny though but relaxed fit or straight leg...

Sippingteaquietly · 28/07/2019 20:05

I’ve seen women wear them with a chambray blue coloured shirt, it looked really lovely and classy x

TSSDNCOP · 28/07/2019 21:18

I love them. I've never really understood the way people go on about getting covered in children's food and paw prints. None of my other clothes get those things on them, so white jeans are no different IME.

Yes to avoiding the LH look though. That's really too small tops and too high heels.
