I've lost count of how many threads we've had! Previous thread.

Let's keep the gossip lighthearted and, as always, stick to critiquing the clothes rather than being overly critical about the women wearing them.

Leti looks amazing in that red dress.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/07/2019 08:07

Leti gets all the breaks @Paradyning. First SFF, then HSPM and HIRT!

Oh I had a royal dream last night. I met Sophie and she was telling me about how Edward is a total ladies man and has cheated on her several times. She'd had enough so she said she'd be going to the BBC about it! Then later I turned on the tv and there she was, spilling the beans about his cheating ways!!

I just read in the Daily M that about £5m of Swedish Crown Jewels was stolen last year and the thieves got away by bike. The article was about an increase in jewellery thefts/burglaries in Paris.

What a shame, I presume the thieves break down the pieces as otherwise they’d be too recognisable.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/07/2019 08:34

Yes that rings a bell, I think I read about it last year.

Queen i misunderstood that for a second and thought that the 'later i turned on the TV' bit was after you woke up! Shock Gasp! lol

I'm up to chapter 16 of Ma'am Darling. My goodness! The contrast between her and her older sister was strong from the earliest days. E was dutiful, serious and conscientious even a a little girl. This is years before the events which led to her becoming heir to the throne, so this wouldn't have been conditioning. The writer even hints at E having OCD tendencies as a child. Jumping out of bed several times a night to straighten her shoes ect. Worrying about M's behavior.

M on the other hand was SO precocious. So wilful, and very very self aware, dishing out little digs and dry jokes to adult men even as a young girl. She did what she wanted and said what ever came into her head. She had very little regard for people's feelings but her charisma seemed to keep people fascinated.

I recently re-read Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier). I know it sounds odd but as i was reading about M as a youngster it reminded me of Rebecca is described. Beautiful, precocious, a law unto herself. Attractive and repelling at the same time. Some of M's behavior is jaw dropping.

£3 well spent! Thanks for the recommendation of the book here :)

Laiste · 23/07/2019 08:48

Just thinking - DDM was friends with the RF wasn't she? The Queen Mum ect. I think Margaret must have still been a little girl when Rebecca was released though. Bit too young for her to have been an inspiration for the books namesake i guess ..... oh well.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/07/2019 09:10

Maybe it worked the other way around and Margaret decided to model herself on Rebecca!

Lady Colin Campbell. Sorry cant cope will crack of dawn flights. Abysmal "ariststocrats" on the show. Some truly appalling peeps. Did anyone catch a glimpse of the trashy broadcast?

GlamGiraffe · 23/07/2019 09:22

Oh yes son friends with lady Colin Campbell's sons.they are decent enough that's what I meant. Been suffering generalised gibberish. Husband concludes we should follow W &K, get a norlander and take them on hols so we actually see a sn linger for five mins. I'm pretty sure he's unaware how much they cost!...Maybe he's thinking more along the lines of hot super in reality😉😉🤣🤣

GlamGiraffe · 23/07/2019 09:23

Grrr. Aupair NOT super.

beanaseireann · 23/07/2019 09:40

GlamGiraffe what was the programme called ?

BigGreenOlives · 23/07/2019 09:54

We took a friend’s daughter on holiday when our children were little a few times. We paid her & paid for everything on holiday & for her to do advanced course while we were away. We divided the day up into 3 shifts (morning, afternoon & evening) and she only ever worked 2. She’s married with 2 children of her own now.

Paradyning · 23/07/2019 10:19

This thread is taxing my tired brain at present.

BlingLoving · 23/07/2019 10:23

Elisabeth looks great. I think I'm going to need to do some research on Belgium royals.

StCharlotte · 23/07/2019 10:51

OMG Leti's red dress is to die for!

itswinetime · 23/07/2019 11:05

@GlamGiraffe Are you talking about the Royal world on mtv? I saw it advertised ages ago but never watched it seems to be a reality style tv show about people with tenuous at best links to royalty. They had Meghan's nephew on all the adverts talking about aunt meg who I don't think he has ever met so is stayed well clear. Not sure if there was anyone linked to lady Colin but it wouldn't surprise me.

I dunno but surely he would know something is ‘up’ by now

I agree. He's six, not three. I think once children go to school, the extent to which we can control what they hear diminishes considerably, thanks mainly to other children.

StCharlotte · 23/07/2019 12:41

Well I certainly knew I wasn't going to be Queen by that age. Dammit.

GlamGiraffe · 23/07/2019 13:46

beanaseireann no idea. Wasnt really watching. I just turned on tv to try and calm down my tyrannical tot. It was the only thing that wasn't news or finance. I fell asleep. But indeed extremely suspect members of the aristocracy and lady Colin holding her tongue remarkably well under the circumstances I thought. She should have bashed their heads together.

pallisers · 23/07/2019 13:51

I know Ma'am Darling was supposed to be subversively funny but tbh I just found it and her and her life depressing.

And yet her children seem to have created happy stable lives (and Lady Sarah Chatto wears the best clothes imo)

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/07/2019 14:34

Yes, I suppose in a way she was quite miserable for large parts of her life. The late Lord Snowdon sounded emotionally abusive tbh.

BlingLoving · 23/07/2019 14:42

I'm sure George knows by now. I suspect they treat it like no big deal - just the way the world is. So not a lot about crowns and being in charge etc and just that he's been born with a responsibility and he'll be king and he'll have lots of people and family to help him etc.

I mean, if your child has an illness or a disability you probably do the same - try treat it in a matter of fact way while emphasising how being a good person or still having a good life is possible.
