Nude hose: how bad?

dellacucina · 17/07/2019 08:58

I have nice legs other than the fact that my veins are messed up, meaning it appears I have bruises all over them and I also have big disgusting varicose veins.

I am aware that nude hose aren't a favoured look, but I look best in knee length dresses.

I've tried that spray on stuff but it doesn't work for me?

Is nude hose so tragic that I should give up on skirts and dresses entirely? And what to do about the fact that they can be overly hot in summer?

I noticed quite a few women wearing them at work last week. I had to really look to notice and was only looking because I had bare legs and wasn't sure it was appropriate. I know they get slated on here but they really didn't look awful.

RiddleyW · 17/07/2019 09:01

I wear sheer tights with dresses for the office because I have blotchy legs. I know some people really hate them but I’m happy!

I get Snag sheers in vanilla which are pretty invisible if you’re pale

managedmis · 17/07/2019 12:57

I wear these all the time for work in summer. With knee length dresses and heels etc.

I think it looks fine. If you work in a professional role they expect you to wear them anyway i think?

Wormentrude · 17/07/2019 13:21

I only dispense with the nude tights if it's really hot. Otherwise, I wear them from about March to October, as long as it's not actively really cold. They make the skin on my legs look smoother and make me feel better.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 17/07/2019 13:54

They're fine. People have no issues with wearing leggings in hot weather, so I don't get why nude tights get a bad rap for being "sweaty". For those of us who don't have perfect unblemished skin, I think they look far better than bare legs.

I'm guessing you're not in the UK by your use of the word hose, but if you have access to an M&S, the Autograph 5 denier tights in a variety of skin tones are practically invisible when on.

dellacucina · 17/07/2019 14:45

I am in the UK, but apparently still don't have all vocabulary down Blush

Thanks for the tip, I will check out M&S

I'll check autograph 5 too as need nude colour tights

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 17/07/2019 16:21

Oh, ok Grin I assumed you meant tights rather than stockings? I don't wear the latter myself and I don't think M&S do a very big range of them these days, so can't advise on those! The Autograph ones are tights and are extremely hard-wearing considering how thin they are.

Eustasiavye · 17/07/2019 16:42

Nude tights are fine, I wear them for work with a dress.

ZenNudist · 17/07/2019 16:45

I wear nude tights but am no style icon. My legs look better with.

MargoLovebutter · 17/07/2019 16:51

I wear nude tights to work all through the summer. I lean towards a slightly 1950s style anyway, so think that it all works fine for a fairly classic look.

My preferred choice is M&S shine tights, as they give a slight sheen & they don't seem to ladder nearly as much as the matt version.

eurochick · 17/07/2019 17:28

I wear them to work but would think they looked a bit frumpy outside the work environment.

RolyWatts · 17/07/2019 17:32

All the cool mums round my way wear nude tights. I was genuinely shocked. They are the M&S ones too.

keepingbees · 17/07/2019 17:37

I've been looking at nude tights for the same reason OP, I have veins in my legs that I'm self conscious of but want to wear dresses. What footwear would you wear in summer with tights though? Obviously sandals are out.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 17/07/2019 18:06

If you can find closed-toe sandals, those are fine to wear with tights. Otherwise, ballet slipper style flats, loafers, court shoes - all good!

thisenglishlife · 17/07/2019 18:10

They're fine unless the colour is off or weird and must be worn without open toe shoes or sandals.

dellacucina · 17/07/2019 20:32

I would never wear sandals with tights. I often wear simple white trainers to wear dresses to work, then change to pointy ballet flats or court shoes. If it's a more casual dress, I just wear trainers or ankle boots much of the time.

Sometimes (not at work) I just give up and wear sandals and bare legs, but then I tend to go for longer skirts or dressesbeven though it's hard to find ones that fit well.

Schoeny · 17/07/2019 21:04

I too wear nude tights with work dresses/skirts - partly because my legs are pale and a bit blotchy, and partly because I hate wearing leather court shoes without tights.

Falke Shelina tights in "golden" are really nice and very natural looking.

But definitely not with open-toed sandals, as PPs have said!

thisenglishlife · 17/07/2019 21:08

Go for it that case, they'll give a nice airbrushed look. I feel like they're quite proper and "ladylike" too, in a good way (not that there's anything wrong with bare legs!!)

thisenglishlife · 17/07/2019 21:09

In that case

Iamthewombat · 17/07/2019 23:47

They are too Middleton for words and look frumpy. Sorry. But I understand your reasons for wanting some coverage.

Mind you, it has been over 20 degrees for the past couple of weeks and I’m amazed by the number of women going to work in black opaque tights. I get that some people have things they want to cover, but really? All of them?

StarlightLady · 18/07/2019 07:51

I wear nude coloured 15 denier stockings (as opposed to tights; cooler) on those summer nights when you need just that little extra coverage on the legs on a summer’s evening. I doubt if most people notice.

Personally, I think black opaque tights on a warm summer’s day looks stranger.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 18/07/2019 08:16

wombat that's your opinion, but there are a few of us on this thread who have said we wear them, and I for one don't think I look frumpy. Sure, if it's those American tan things that wrinkle up around the ankles, but you can get some incredibly subtle ones these days that barely show. I wouldn't go to work with bare legs, personally, so for me it's either nudes or trousers for the duration of the warm weather.

RolyWatts · 18/07/2019 09:50

Markies do toeless nudes that you could potentially wear with sandals or peep toes.

dellacucina · 18/07/2019 10:02

Here's the truth: I have been wearing Boots support hose in nude. It's not medical grade but it's supposed to help with the unhealthy veins. Will attach a photo later if I remember
