Since I am in posting mode. Here is one of my outfits while on hols (still here not long to go back).
These are my silk culottes (eBay find) , which I love because they are so comfy, soft and make me feel put together. In the UK I normally wear them with the navy ballerina top but it was so hot I wore them with this basic tank top (black bra changed after seeing myself in mirror).

My current outfits on this side of hols are trekking tees and trousers so I imagine if no visual interest here.

I love your silk culottes Red! I always pop in and look at jigsaw now and then but shipping is almost 11 pounds and I am unsure about sizing so I won’t be shopping. By their size guide I’m too big for a large, but my experience is that I seldom am even if a brand says that I will be, iyswim. Anyway they don’t have the ballet top in any colours I want atm so I’m safe Grin

Bo I don’t think it’s my body changing because it hasn’t changed that much in basic shape (ie hips arse full belly and boobs 🙄). I was just seduced and delusional. Adding a photo I found online of the trousers on the model. Now on me (can’t be arsed to drag them out of laundry basket and wear for a pic sorry) the flaps don’t lie down against my leg but have a tendency to flare out, like side seam pockets do on normal bodies fuller hips.

If I were flat chested I’d be wearing all the camis and no bra haha. Looks like such easy living! Talk about someone who falls for aspirational ads ...

Jigsaw sizing is off (like everywhere I guess). I bought some size 26 jeans there yesterday and I’m not a 26. I bought them because they were £24 in the sale and fit me Grin. They’d look awful on someone model height as they flare a bit and end mid calf, on me they flare a bit neatly at the ankle so more classic. Not perfect but jeans that fit... they had this which looked really nice, I managed to not let myself try it on. (That and 4 yo with me kept ripping the curtain open)

Well that rules jigsaw out then. There’s a sort of freedom in ruling out, a bit like becoming a nun 😉

Tried tucking my Uniqlo shirt dress into my trousers today, just to see how it works. It’s quite hard to do without bunching it. Sort of works, but you’d have to be insouciante af to carry it off, and that’s my problem.

Since I am back on this thread, and I’m sure to drop off before the end with packing, and the title is independent style, Im going to drop here that I’m loving seeing an increased profile for indigenous (Australian) fashion. The first I saw was the Gorman collab, check out @gorman on insta, and then I found the insta account @ausindigenousfashion. It’s great to see! I also follow someone else on fb who’s a friend of my brothers - their site is northhome.org/collections/tiwi-collection

quirkychick · 05/08/2019 21:08

time, gorgeous fabric on that website!

bani, your trousers look great in that photo, a shame if you don't feel they fit so well anymore.

Everyone should NOT admire my editing skills Blush. I should be shot for that attempt.

botemp · 06/08/2019 09:11

@timeisnotaline, not meaning to bash your editing skills any further but I can see the rest of your camera roll beneath with lots of (adorable) pics of your DC. It's small but may be outing?

Tiwi patterns look really nice, although I had to remember that Australian dollars aren't as much as USD after balking at the price. I do like a lot of Australian design, just not a lot of it out here and a lot not so weather appropriate. I like a lot of what Dion Lee does but it's often the fabrics that let it down, always bemused why someone from a hot climate would utilise synthetics so much.

Thanks Bo. That’s why the second comment about my editing skills- I’m so ashamed of that effort, my technical skills have sunk to new depths! I’ll request it to be deleted in a few days so it’s not in my record.

I’ve been following a few discussions about comfy wear anywhere but not expensive trousers, without much physical shopping time, as we are about to do 4-5 weeks of travel as a family. I don’t like the idea of harems, I thought about the hush animal print joggers but I don’t know if joggers are wear anywhere for me. I’m considering these, any thoughts: uk.zaggora.com/products/the-city-culotte-black?variant=15605993406530

banivani · 06/08/2019 14:21

I only snuck a quick look at the australian fashion - i love that they use indigenous artists and original work instead of just stealing. There's still a bit of hmmmm when all the models are white but hey ho. Some things were lovely. Of course the only things from 'Straya to ever reach Sweden is some swimwear and exchange students.

quirkychick · 07/08/2019 06:53

time the culottes look good, I've worn the navy ones I bought this summer loads, as they are good in the heat and seem to dry off quickly in the rain (the cropped length means no soggy hems, either). They're also versatile, if that helps.

Floisme · 07/08/2019 07:20

I love the prints and colours on that link time - the hand painted robes look amazing and had me checking the Australian Dollar - pound rate. Those culottes look good too.

So I have fallen off my don't-buy-new wagon. The scarily edgy but very friendly local boutique had some Rundholz at around 70% off so what could I do but buy a skirt to go with the one I bought this time last year. This one is midi length and more everyday until you notice the shape and then it looks Victorian nanny on acid. It's a very dark khaki that may just possibly go with everything I own. I can't find a link so I'll take a photo when I get the chance.

And I've also bagged an unseasonal Margaret Howell wool jumper for £25 at my favourite second hand market. It's a mustardy colour which won't be to everyone's taste but I really like it.

quirkychick · 07/08/2019 07:57

flo both those sound like great buys.

botemp · 07/08/2019 08:17

Does Reddit have a Victorian nanny on acid thread already? If not, I feel we're obligated to make one here Grin

Time culottes look fine and it's nice they're organic cotton. Only thing I would point out, I wasn't familiar with that website but with a quick browse I did notice a lot of the models look very short/petite when they're not according to the fit guide. I'm not sure whether it's the photography or the clothes but iirc we're the same height so those culottes are likely to be full length trousers and potentially a bit dumpy in fit. It'll just be a try and see thing.

Oh and I booked my London flight for the Margaret Howell sample sale. Had to go with Thursday so you'll just have to come to the Antwerp sample sales again Elle if you want to do lunch Wink

Floisme · 07/08/2019 08:29

Oh I would love to go to that but it's only a couple of days after we get back from hols and I don't think I'll have the energy and I definitely won't have the money. Good hunting!

botemp · 07/08/2019 08:34

Yes it's only the 26th and 27th but their online customer service were very friendly in letting me know the dates ahead of time when I asked so you could aim for the one in spring? I'll report back what's on offer and prices. I'm assuming it'll be A/W stuff but perhaps I'm gambling wrong and it's all S/S. Ah well, the outlet shop is just around the corner.

Floisme · 07/08/2019 08:40

Thanks bo it would be good to know what the prices and sizes are like.

botemp · 07/08/2019 09:13

Possible alternatives time, I had these on my watch list and they look to end on the leg higher, they do look higher waisted, also cotton with stretchy waist at the back:

Not sure how useful they are but the pull and bear culottes I bought are comfy, lightweight and breezy (linen/viscose mix but they don't crease like crazy) and cheap but will require a quick iron after a wash. Also with elasticated waist:

Smart shopping, Flo. Pic of the skirt please, and congratulations on the MH sweater. Unseasonal means something to look forward to!

timeisnotaline · 07/08/2019 12:40

Thanks Bo! You make a very good point on the height, and their return /refund process looks like it can be difficult. I will check out your links and also these- I might be able to get to a store to try on this weekend

Ive tried and I just can’t picture Victorian nanny on acid. Pictures needed (or a reddit)

banivani · 08/08/2019 13:04

Went back later and looked properly at aussie Northhome - wow there are some lovely things. Like Flo I loved those hand-dyed robes, and the jumpsuits looked great too. I'm keeping them in my lookbook. :)

Am also eager to see the Victorian acid nanny!

botemp · 08/08/2019 19:09

Well here's where my imagination has gone with Victorian nanny on acid as I have no clue what to Google image for it as I fear it would all be a bit 80s Madonna so you'll all just have to do with the return of my questionable sketching abilities.
