Do you wear short shorts?

I nipped out to the post box today (work from home) and decided not to change out of my slumming it at home and working in the garden working from home clothes as I normally would to go out, as it is only 5 minutes away. However I suddenly felt self conscious about the fact that I was wearing shorts! Cut off denim shorts about 2/3 of the way up my thighs. (It has been scorching here today).

I hated feeling self-conscious but I feel like the skin around my thighs and above my knees has got less firm recently. (i'm 39). I do exercise regularly (running, swimming and weights) and the muscles are good, just not the saggy skin on top!

How old are you and would you wear short shorts? I.e. not long "city" shorts, and not super skimpy up your bum ones, but 2/3 up the thigh type?

I can't wear long shorts. Mine have to cut off quite high otherwise I look like Jimmy Krankie

AS IF you are too old for shorts at 39. No, you are not making a show of yourself.

I’m over 50 and wear fairly short shorts but I do have good legs ( so I’m told) and a small bum I’m also quite tall at 5’8” . I think short shorts only look bad if you’ve got fat thighs and no sign of a thigh gap .

Sadly, its just not been warm enough here...

I'm 49 and I'll wear short shorts out and about if I'm going to be playing tennis, or it's v hot.
My legs are pretty cellulite-y these days but I don't give a shit as long as they're tanned.

Size18, at weekends in hot weather wear denim cut offs, they are short as I am red-hot otherwise and mid thigh/ knee high make me look like a scout leader

Short shorts absolutely... Never near knees as just shows up how knobbly they are. Mid 40s

I have never thought about the skin on my legs, I'll have to do an inspection and report back.

What are city shorts then? I am pretty sure I dont own any; I am more scruffy denims.

I have some short shorts, not bum cheekers and whilst I feel like I have a lot on show (I'm tall). I think they look less frumpy than my mid- thigh ones. The short ones aren't so clingy. The mid- thigh make my thighs look like sausages and make me feel Mumsy I am totally mumsy mind

I wear short shorts, I'm 42 & spent hours working on my legs in the gym so I'm happy to show them off!!

But I think anyone of any age who has the confidence should wear them whatever their legs look like.

tierraJ just when I think I'm going to stop caring about what my legs look like and maybe try to be brave enough to wear shorts, I read a comment telling me that they only look good on women with a thigh gap. Trousers for me then...

I follow the Trinny and Susannah rule - wear shorts (and skirts) that end at the thinnest part of your thigh. Short shorts that end in your thigh gap are the most flattering I think.

Yep, they're more flattering than length but my legs are quite chunky from the gym.

43 and size 6-8 thanks to being a runner, and I wear them both running and out and about. My legs are slim and toned but even if they weren't I wouldn't not wear them. I wouldn't wear hot pant style with butt cheeks hanging out but that has never been my style.

I am actually happy to run in short shorts and a sports bra when very hot. IDGAF and neither should you! Just feel confident in what ever you wear.

Not anymore but I am 52. Prefer something a little longer now. However that's more comfort than giving a stuff what people think.

Another 50 something in short shorts. Agree that longer ones are less flattering. I think high waisted shorts suit me much more than skirts or dresses. So will continue.

I do, and I am 40.
I think longer ones are just frumpy. I have some very short ones (not showing the bum cheeks, but just below that) and some slightly lower.
I do have decent legs (I do a lot of heavy weights training), but at 40 I also have stretch marks and cellulite, I just don't care about them!

It’s weird because I wear short dresses, but not shorts. I initially thought you meant actual tiny shorts halfway up your bum, they look great on my daughter and her friends, but I think I will spare the world that!

39 and feel better about my body than ever so yeah I wear them. And it's hot. So I will wear as little as I can.

I'm 34 and wear short shorts regularly. It's my summer uniform 😁 I give zero fucks. If its hot I don't want to be swathed in extra fabric!

I’m 10 years older and wear short shorts all the time in the summer and take the dogs out in them.

I never wore shorts after I left school. I am short and have very white legs. I wasn't overweight in my 20s but the idea seemed horrific when I had friends with very long brown legs. As I put on a bit of weight in my 30s (so I was a size 12) the idea seemed even less attractive. But then in my mid 40s I slimmed back down to a healthy weight and I do a lot of exercise (swimming or yoga every day) and last summer in the heat I thought fuck it and bought myself some loose linen shorts (about 3inchs below bum). No-one exclaimed in horror and they look much better than the long denim cut offs I'd tried previously. My legs are still short and blue very pale but who cares? I wear them with loose long sleeved tops to balance the nakedness below and think I look fine.

Oh and my fabulous MIL is in her 80s and wears mid thigh shorts and looks great as well and she's shorter and fatter than me although does have the advantage of not having northern European skin.
