I'm weirdly worried about it. No one else to ask. Is this ok?

DD's graduation - yes or no?

I do wear a wig. Is it awful?

OP posts:
Lobsterquadrille2 · 12/06/2019 11:52

After chemo.

JesusHChristOnABike · 12/06/2019 11:53

Bloody Hell...talk about rude!
You look fab OP.

Shipwrecked2019 · 12/06/2019 11:54

Wow this is mean! I'm sure OP didn't ask for opinions on her hair. Wig or not is nobody's business and she has explained its due to chemo.

Dress is fine for graduation OP. I graduated 3 years ago and saw lots of similar dresses. Looks lovely.

lonelysleep · 12/06/2019 11:54

@Lobsterquadrille2 I'm sorry to hear you had chemo, but the wig is not great! It looks comical. Can you not find something more natural?

Lobsterquadrille2 · 12/06/2019 11:54

I can't go now. I don't want to embarrass her.

Thank you. I honestly didn't realise it looked that bad.

Erm, if that’s true OP, then apologies if I offended you. You may want to look to choose one in a more youthful style to look well groomed and youthful.

newmomof1 · 12/06/2019 11:55

@Lobsterquadrille2 you look fab
Ignore the nasty comments - some people just can't help themselves and have to do everything they can to put others down

lonelysleep · 12/06/2019 11:55

@Lobsterquadrille2 Don't be ridiculous, the dress looks lovely, the hair was the problem, easily fixed!

Don't let your daughter down for gods sake.

Fibbke · 12/06/2019 11:56

Oh no! Op! You have a fab figure and the only reason I'd take a jacket is because I'd get cold. Please make sure you go.

Bluerussian · 12/06/2019 11:57

Very nice dress. She will look gorgeous. I presume the days of wearing long dresses to your graduation are over.

@lonelysleep it's all very well getting shirty with the OP after you've totally knocked her confidence. For gods sake indeed.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 12/06/2019 11:59

I'm getting a new wig this weekend. My confidence is shot. I was already getting a new wig, not this thread but now I wonder if everyone is laughing at me.

lonelysleep · 12/06/2019 12:00

@JesusHChristOnABike & @Shipwrecked2019 Are you serious? I wouldn't be the only one thinking it, she asked for opinions, I gave one. It's hardly the most natural looking wig!

Seventytwoseventythree · 12/06/2019 12:00

Hi OP I have attended lots of graduations for various people, you look lovely please don’t worry, and definitely you must go! Agree with previous posters that a blazer/jacket/cardigan will be a good idea for the British weather (I don’t think it needs to be “very new” as stated above - people wear all kinds of things to graduations and you look very smart)

lonelysleep · 12/06/2019 12:00

@Lobsterquadrille2 look I feel sorry for you now, but you must have known the wig was a bit 'out there'? Is it similar to your old hair at all or did you go for something different?

Lobsterquadrille2 · 12/06/2019 12:02

It's the hair I used to have.

Dress is fine, shoes are lovely and you have a great figure. You probably will need a jacket though - a light coloured cardigan, blazer or jacket.
The wig is just a bit 'big' and the style with the curls is more 'going out' than graduation imo. Straight hair rather than the curls would look more natural?

VanillaSugarr · 12/06/2019 12:04

Hi OP

I used to work at York University and I saw many parents at graduation ceremonies. Believe me, anything goes and there will be people dressed up to the nines looking like they’re at a wedding and there will be people in jeans.

The most important thing is to feel comfortable a) sitting for 2 hours b) wandering around looking for a cup of coffee c) standing around and drinking the cup of coffee.

The campus can be windy do definitely take a cardi, a jacket or a pashmina. And low ish heels as there will be a lot of walking.

Ignore the stupid comment about the wig. Seriously, I have seen people embrace many conditions, particularly wheelchair users who wouldn’t miss their DC’s graduation for the world.

Now, my own DD graduates in a few weeks time and I have NO IDEA what to wear!

The dress is lovely, as others have said a little cardi will keep you warm. I think your hair is fine too. Please go to the graduation, your daughter deserves praise and recognition for her hard work, it can't have been easy if she was also thinking about you and your diagnosis, and you deserve a great day out to celebrate both your clever beautiful daughter and coming through chemo.

I hope you have a nice restaurant booked for lunch after the graduation ceremony. I didn't even bother going to my own graduation ceremony, no parents and I didn't think anyone else would be interested, but my heart burst with pride when I went to DDs. It's a very special experience.

Nesssie · 12/06/2019 12:06

^ Also, I'm only commenting on the hair as people have obviously made you self conscious now, just trying to give a suggestion of a simple way to change the look if you want to
