Are saltwater sandals worth it?

I want some nice sandals that won’t fall to bits like the new look ones I buy every year! I have Birkenstock’s but find they actually hurt my feet after a while as the arch support is just too high and hard - and I have high arches! I actually feel more comfortable in shoes that don’t have them in as weird as that sounds.

Anyway I’ve been eyeing up salt waters and wondered if anyone would recommend? Sorry if this has been done to death.

I walk a lot at work and like going out and about in the summer so would really like some I can wear all day.

Thanks!

They don’t run but they are very flat and hard. I find they hurt the soles of my feet if I keep them on all day.

ffs74 · 27/05/2019 08:08

I've got my eye on the red ones but I always paint my toe nails red, would this work or look bloody awful?!

Chartreuser · 27/05/2019 08:12

I had bright pink ones and find I had to wear red/coral toes as pink didn't go, and suspect the opposite may be true too.

The most successful ones I have are bright yellow, as yellow goes with nothing they work with everything IYGWIM? The new mustard would be similar I suspect

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2019 08:21

I can comfortably wear them all day, but wouldn’t wear them sightseeing, or anywhere where I was going to do a lot of walking. I love them because I have huge feet (9) and it’s rare I find pretty shoes that fit! Smile I have shiney red.

SellFridges · 27/05/2019 08:36

I like mine, but agree they are very flat. Doesn’t bother me, but might some. I have wide feet at the front (attractive lol) and have never had an issue with rubbing.

That said, I wouldn’t mind something more cushioned so if anyone has any ideas I’m listening! I have Birkies but as a pp said they make me feet ache if I wear them all day.

Mog6840 · 27/05/2019 09:04

I've just bought some after reading this thread. I bought some lovely Clark's sandals last year after having a similar style twice before from there. These ones rub terribly, go figure!

So fingers crossed these are as comfy as everyone says! I don't mind flatness! I just can't handle the blisters!

Today is the last day of the £7.50 off on the SW site. Some styles , like the mash-ups are exclusive to the SW site.

RedRiverShore · 27/05/2019 09:31

Thanks Housewife I quite fancy some of the new style ones.

RedRiverShore · 27/05/2019 09:37

All the colours I like in the Retro have sold out in my size, 8 (UK7) on SW site Sad

rosinavera · 27/05/2019 09:47

I'm very tempted by them!! Does anyone know - I'm a size 41 so would I need to order a size?

rosinavera · 27/05/2019 09:52

That should have read do I need to order a size 8!!!!! :-0

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2019 09:59

@rosinavera, I’m a 43 and I can just squeeze into a Saltwater 9. I imagine you’d need an 8.

rosinavera · 27/05/2019 10:03

@BikeRunSki Thank you! x

rosinavera · 27/05/2019 10:09

Now do I get the red or mustard??!! :-0

Housewife2010 · 27/05/2019 10:15

RedRiverShore Have a look at the Flip Flop store online. Last time I checked they had Retros in the larger sizes.
I'm a 7/7.5 and have quite wide feet. I have two pairs of SW 8's. However my toes are touching the stitching. I ordered the gold last year and had to send them back because they were too tight. I wonder if the gold ones usually come up tighter. I'm tempted to order 9 next time.

Housewife2010 · 27/05/2019 10:29

Just ordered these www.salt-watersandals.com/women/original-mash-up-russian-venchanie-women.html I'd wanted them last year when they were only available in Australia. A mix of gold, silver and rose gold.

RedRiverShore · 27/05/2019 10:41

I'm 41 and order 7 UK from Office and it is the 8 saltwater size

RedRiverShore · 27/05/2019 10:46

Just looking on FlipFlop, Housewife thank you, now do I want navy or tan....

Housewife2010 · 27/05/2019 10:55

RedRiverShore If I didn't already have tan in the original I'd definitely get the Retro in tan - serious 70s vibes. I'm keen on the mustard retro.

Notcoolmum · 27/05/2019 11:01

I love my salt waters. I have them in red but would get rose gold if I was buying new. I find them really comfortable and live in them all summer.

The straps are adjustable. I must remember to undo mine and not slip them on like a kid!!

BumblebeeBum · 27/05/2019 11:01

I wore mine for a 6 week trip around Asia. Trip included long days walking in cities like Tokyo and lazing on beaches going in and out of water all day. Found them really comfortable and they’re still going strong ready for this summer’s adventures.

Fruityb · 27/05/2019 11:29

Mine are on the way! I went for white as I love white sandals - I just think they look good with everything. Plus they’ll be good if I manage a tan this summer!

Housewife2010 I like those gold, silver and rose gold ones! I have the rose gold and navy but have just spied these which I love!
Not a fan of the retro sandals but love the retro slides! 😍

AhoyDelBoy They look lovely.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 27/05/2019 15:18

I have 2 pairs and they're very comfortable. I love the slightly vintage look of them and they go with everything.

I shall be buying the red ones shortly...
