I live in the desert now and it’s high 30s, forecast 40s by the end of the week. Roll on autumn....!!

Daisypie · 21/05/2019 21:10

I think Kate and the Queen looked gorgeous today. It's a shame Kate gets such a nervous strangled voice public speaking. I hope she can continue to improve.

frugalkitty · 21/05/2019 21:34

Seneca I knew you were southern US but I didn't picture you in Florida. I had you down as living in an old colonial mansion (which you may well do), kind of stately home-ish, very grand. Sounds hot and humid, I'd melt!

Wetdogloveshubert · 21/05/2019 23:03

I know this is S&B, but Kate has a clear uniform, and today was very much a uniform day alongside the star of the show. Why would she come out in something showy? The pink coat dress is very appropriate, swishy and she glows in the colour.

Have to say that William also looked rather dashing today. I do love a three piece suit!

IHeartArya · 21/05/2019 23:12

Kate was on duty today & wore her work uniform. I loved the hat & colour on her.

Well, I do spend a lot of time in Georgia near the coast where I grew up, at my brother's largish house. That's about as stately as it gets. Smile

AngeloMysterioso · 21/05/2019 23:20

Does her work uniform always have to be a pastel coat dress though? Not saying she doesn’t look lovely because of course she does, but jeez Kate... mix it up a little!!

bizzey · 21/05/2019 23:46

As always nothing much to add ..but just loving this thread !.
Big thank you to pp who put the wiki link up on the wedding guests for lots of wedding . It was fascinating.

But ..i did love Sophie Wessex dress at RHS.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/05/2019 05:54

Maybe it is her uniform but is it necessary to have dozens of very similar and very expensive coatdresses that look almost exactly the same?

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/05/2019 06:00

Kate is following the pattern of hm, and the qm, especially who wear very similar styles in different colours.
Kaye doesn’t have another coat dress like this one. Camilla wears very similar clothes too, ans has lots of new ones.
When Kate does “mix it up” as pp said, she gets slated as she did yesterday at rhs.
So she’s back in her trusty uniform, which must be spot on; as the worst that can be said about it is “she’s got one similar”

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/05/2019 06:07

The Erdem dress was an unpopular choice on this thread but not in general! I didn't read any media coverage criticising it. Personally I didn't think it was bad and it was nice to see her change things up a bit.

She has countless pastel coatdresses, maybe not one exactly like this one but similar. i know Meghan gets a lot of criticism about the cost of her wardrobe but they're all spending a lot, and on outfits that are very similar to previous ones!

Violet25 · 22/05/2019 06:10

I listened to the interview and as an Australian her accent was what I would expect. She did sound nervous though. I loved the Erdem. I think she is fab!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/05/2019 06:13

Doria is back in LA dm link
Apparently H&M don’t have any staff yet. But I’d be amazed with a huge house and a new baby; they didn’t stump up for a cleaner

Royal style & gossip: down with fleeces and double-breasted suits!
QueenOfTheAndals · 22/05/2019 06:21

I find that very hard to believe! Maybe no nanny but surely a cleaner and gardener, unless Harry is planning on mowing the lawn himself??

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/05/2019 06:24

Yes they listed the staff they don’t have. Nanny; housekeeper and a few others. I’m sure they have a cleaner; even if it’s someone popping down from Windsor. And there must be Windsor Estate gardeners who sort out the Frogmore gardens too.
I’d love to know what a housekeeper does. ( I’m not posh enough to have 3ver had one)

@CurlyWurlyTwirly I'm sure a certain former poster on these threads could tell you in great detail WinkGrin

My grandparents had a house full of help (not uncommon in Asia) but nothing like a housekeeper, just one maid who was more senior than the others and bossed them around a bit. So not exactly Mrs Hughes!

Which reminds me, any Downton fans here? The trailer for the new film is out.

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/05/2019 06:35

Hah! Yes; I was thinking of her too!

Spudlet · 22/05/2019 06:44

Didn't someone post an advert for a housekeeper on a previous thread? It was basically all the cleaning, looking after clothes 'to a high standard', doing the shopping, looking after the dog as well, IIRC? It was a lot work, for a not stupendous salary, anyway.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 22/05/2019 06:45

They must think we were born yesterday if they claim not to have staff. Why do they do this? It makes them look ridiculous.

Spudlet · 22/05/2019 06:46

But yes, I'm sure a certain person could tell us in great detail. Followed by informing us that Meghan of course has no idea how to treat her staff and needs taking down a peg...

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/05/2019 07:14

To be fair @AnneEyhtMeyer that's according to Grazia so who knows how true it really is? Apparently they have a "scaled down" staff rather than no staff so in royal terms this may mean 10 people rather than 30!

OP posts:
Hairydilemma · 22/05/2019 07:20

Blatant place marking from me so I can find you all again..hello all and thank you for the new thread... we certainly fill them up quickly!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/05/2019 07:21

But of course @Spudlet, swiftly followed by a not-so-stealthy boast about £1000 suits or £5000 coats!!

OP posts:
Spudlet · 22/05/2019 07:22

I'd imagine they'll start thinking about nannies when Meghan is ready to end her mat leave. If Doria is still around then they probably feel they have enough help at the moment. As for the rest, Granny can always send someone over to run the hoover round, mow the lawn and restock the fridge!

Spudlet · 22/05/2019 07:24

Naturally, Queen! Followed by an anecdote about Harry using their toilet, or similar.

After all, that poster was Considerably Posher Than Yeow Grin
