Are slipon Sketchers a style disaster?

I am looking for some slip on trainers as travelling shoes.... forgiving of transatlantic foot swell, allow you to wear socks through security, can run when I may be missing my connection, but stylish enough to look cute whn I am endlessly sightseeing all those places you see in the movies...! I thought of Vans but some people say they aren't that comfy and I really don't want blisters. Uggs Sammy are bloody expensive. Will I commit style death if I go with Sketchers (like GoWalk Evolution Ultra Reach)?

I've had a pair of sketchers go walks in black upper and black sole. They aren't super stylish but they were super comfy for work.
Personally, I think they're hideous when they have pale soles.

Have you considered getting a pair of Toms? I swear by them now as they're so comfy.

lunicorn · 15/05/2019 21:35

Comfy and ugly

Justmuddlingalong · 15/05/2019 21:40

I've got rocket dog gutties. They fit your brief and are really comfy. They look better than Skechers, but the go walks are on another level of comfort.

MrsBobDylan · 15/05/2019 21:42

I think your feet will feel sad and dejected in Sketchers, as tho you don't care about them anymore...Grin

I have a pair of trainers that I slip on and off even tho they are lace up. And because I'm a grown up my Mum can't tell me off for breaking the backs down, so its a win win.

Quintella · 15/05/2019 21:47

They're not as ugly as I thought they'd be. I think you can pull them off as long as the rest of you isn't adorned with bum bags and similarly hideous accessories.

We can do things when we're abroad that we can't do at home. Treat them like some dodgy holiday hook up, fine for the time and place and easy to deny all knowledge of them once you're on home soil.

What kind of name is 'GoWalk Evolution Ultra Reach' though. The marketing bod that came up with that must have had two Red Bulls that morning.

I had the same as above, Go Walk black upper and soles, not the most stylish but so comfortable I stopped caring!

GreenEggsHamandChips · 15/05/2019 21:49

Sketchers sweet pea actually look good if you can get them. The odd slip on trainer if you choose wisely

TailEndCharlie · 15/05/2019 21:53

Yes a marketing muppet really had had one too many hipster coffees before that one... but for airport wear and sightseeing (and no I am not a bumbag kinda person) I thought it was possible to get away with. Especially as DH is one of those types who insists onw alking between all tourist attractions even if it is miles and Washington in July. Which it will be.

Honestly, they're fine. When you're walking for miles in warm weather comfy trotters are of paramount importance. It's not like Washington DC is fashion central anyway.

TailEndCharlie · 15/05/2019 22:03

I may well bite the bullet... while packing my Supergras and Birkenstocks (in my own hold luggage for the first time since I had kids! Oh the space!) just incase I cant cope with the dubious style connotations...

Thank you stylish people!

If you're wearing them in the states then go for it they won't care what you're wearing and neither will you.

TantricTwist · 15/05/2019 23:03

in that comfort trumps fashion as it were Confused

Moondancer73 · 15/05/2019 23:09

I have Bobs, Skechers version of Toms - money goes to rescue dogs when you buy them- and they are the most comfy shoes I've ever owned.
I also have Skechers and they're supremely comfy although not very stylish

Popuppippa · 15/05/2019 23:18

They are style death but soooo worth it. I have a love hate relationship with them; I love to wear them but hate how they look. Comfort wins over style.

I wear mine to work and change into nice shoes/boots and they are great around the house or travelling, as you describe, as you can slip them on/off easily. I have all black and plain grey, which are surprisingly ok.

Justmuddlingalong · 15/05/2019 23:19

You can throw them in the washing machine too. 👍

applesarerroundandshiny · 15/05/2019 23:35

Love my sketchers! But then again, I'm not very stylish!

Randomneim · 16/05/2019 00:01

Just get cool trainers! Plain white or plain black -- very much in fashion and optimal comfort!

Amortentia · 16/05/2019 01:43

I've got the black ones with white soles and think they look fine. They are very comfy now but they rubbed my heels really badly at first, everyone seems to rave about them so not sure why I had such a problem with them.

OmarKhayyam · 16/05/2019 01:46

I haven’t read your post or the rest of the comments because they answer to your post title is “Yes!”

jcq17 · 16/05/2019 03:15

They are the most comfortable shoe ever, however I wear them for work as a nurse and wouldnt be seen dead in them out of work lol.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 16/05/2019 04:54

They are the comfiest shoe ever. But yes, very ugly. I don't really give a shit so wear them anyway, but DP who cares very much about these things hates them.

My last pair have just fallen apart after a good few years of service and have gone in the bin. DP is over the moon.

Ciwirocks · 16/05/2019 07:20

I have got these and I think they are quite nice but I am definitely no fashion icon and I actually don’t care that much, they are just too comfy www.skechers.com/en-gb/style/68741/modern-jogger-debbie/BLK?cm_mmc=cse--google--productsearch-_-68741-BLK&CAWELAID=120283570000049556&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=66884486094&CATCI=pla-293946777986&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhoGA7bOf4gIVrLztCh2HwQX5EAQYByABEgKouPD_BwE

frugalkitty · 16/05/2019 07:25

I like the ballerina style ones for summer holidays and day trips, not quite as ugly as some of them. If you've got a lot of walking to do, you need to be comfy (and they're machine washable).

Drogosnextwife · 16/05/2019 07:32

My friend just did a 30 mile charity walk and she borrowed her mum's. Didn't want to put them on because they are not very stylish. She had to change into them quite quickly, said they saved her feet and were the comfiest shoes ever.

sandgrown · 16/05/2019 07:35

They are the most comfy shoes I have ever owned (wide feet) I go for comfort over looks if walking a lot . Did not realise I could wash them though .
