Are slipon Sketchers a style disaster?

I am looking for some slip on trainers as travelling shoes.... forgiving of transatlantic foot swell, allow you to wear socks through security, can run when I may be missing my connection, but stylish enough to look cute whn I am endlessly sightseeing all those places you see in the movies...! I thought of Vans but some people say they aren't that comfy and I really don't want blisters. Uggs Sammy are bloody expensive. Will I commit style death if I go with Sketchers (like GoWalk Evolution Ultra Reach)?

I find th slip on ones too loose for a full on day - I wear the lace up trainers which are amazing

A necessary evil for me with my awful feet. Their sandals are the best I ever had. Compliments are usually from people a generation older but hey ho.

I found myself browsing the skecher shop in bluewater the other week .... teen DD spotted me and dragged me out. But now I’ve read this I’m going back ... on my own.

Have a pair of the gowalk joy, I didn’t mean to wear them as much as I do (nearly every day!!) but they are so comfy!! And I don’t wear socks with them either, don’t remember a pair of trainers I could do that with. And I put them in the washing machine. Love them!!

MandM have loads of Uggs with 70% off - including slip on trainers, worth a look (I’ve got lots of Uggs - from flip flops to ankle boots & trainers & all are incredibly comfy & well made).

Watching this thread with interest though as I’d love to find a slip on trainer that isn’t fugly - so bored of the ‘what to do with laces’ dilemma (maximum first world problem points there I’m well aware!)

Nike huaraches are the most comfortable things I've ever put on my trotters. I worry that I look like a 13 year old boy however.

chipsandgin · 19/05/2019 09:14

@PauperTroll I had this with my insanely comfortable Nike Internationalists last summer - turned up at a family lunch wearing the same trainers as my 16 year old nephew (he was mortified!) 😂

What is it with Mumsnet people that sketchers are so reviled? I agree that they aren’t the prettiest of footwear, but the sneering and snobbery about them is a bit OTT.
TBH I find some of the “stylish” shoes linked on footwear threads ugly, especially anything with animal print on them (Sorry OP Grin)

Worn with elastic waist crimplene trousers I agree that they do look frumpy. Worn with a pair of shorts and a T-shirt or a nice summer dress I don’t agree. IMO they just look like plimsolls or sand shoes.

I wore mine a lot while climbing up and down the very steep terrain in Madeira and they were perfect. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned, and are a joy to walk in.

I also have these Nike Renew Rival, but they are too hot for a hot summer’s day or for just slipping on to go to the pool/beach etc.

I don’t judge other people’s footwear on how it looks, but I admit that, like Justmuddlingalong , I judge when people wear inappropriate footwear for the weather or the terrain. They just look ridiculous. Anyone who thinks they look good slipping around on a steep stony footpath in stiletto heels is deluded.

DD can't wear Sketchers as she wears orthotics. Your physio is right joyful. They don't give enough support to those people who need it.

IHeartArya · 19/05/2019 18:27

Does your physio have any recommendations joyful

PrincessMargaret · 10/06/2019 20:50

So comfy though! I have reached an age where I don't care as long as my feet/back doesn't hurt.

Supersimpkin · 10/06/2019 21:17

They're so comfortable you'll have to wear them but with conditions:

  1. Cancel them out with a really killer bag, and enjoy your hol.
  1. No sightseeing pix showing you below the knee. Whatsoever, and enjoy the rest of your life.
