Are slipon Sketchers a style disaster?

I am looking for some slip on trainers as travelling shoes.... forgiving of transatlantic foot swell, allow you to wear socks through security, can run when I may be missing my connection, but stylish enough to look cute whn I am endlessly sightseeing all those places you see in the movies...! I thought of Vans but some people say they aren't that comfy and I really don't want blisters. Uggs Sammy are bloody expensive. Will I commit style death if I go with Sketchers (like GoWalk Evolution Ultra Reach)?

They are the most comfortable shoes in the world . I’ve had life long shoe fitting problems and walked 15 miles up ad down the Lisbon hills last summer in them and it was like walking on clouds .

StCharlotte · 16/05/2019 08:06

I think your feet will feel sad and dejected in Sketchers, as tho you don't care about them anymore...

No no no - they're not pretty but they show how much you do care about them Smile

I have these and they got me round four solid days of walking in Venice. Honestly they're like walking on air.

Yeah, I have the plain black ones. They're not that bad. Much better than Crocs. 😂

I'm sure most people don't even notice.

EskeewdBeef · 16/05/2019 08:14

My podiatrist friend always recommends them. I have an ugly pair, but God they're so comfortable.

DonkeyHohtay · 16/05/2019 08:15

I have a pair like Quintella posted upthread, but which have black soles too. They remind me of my childhood slip on gym shoes. Not stylish but great when you need to do a lot of walking.

IHeartArya · 16/05/2019 08:54

I was considering starting a new thread about similar issue.

See I need a pair of slipons (for dog walking) as I have rheumatoid arthritis & I need to wear orthotics. So these like they could be a possibility for me. I gave up on comfort & style together a long time ago Grin

any other recommendations welcome. I may start my own thread at some point

madeyemoodysmum · 16/05/2019 08:58

Toms are really comfy but I’m not sure they would be ok for hours as the soles are thin

Ido wear mine a lot tho and sometimes forget I have them in they are so lovely.

LittleCandle · 16/05/2019 09:03

I live in Skechers and don't give a fuck if everyone else thinks they are ugly/uncool whatever. In the US heat in July, you won't give a stuff what anyone thinks as long as your feet are comfy! Why do you care what anyone else thinks anyway?

wildhairdontcare · 16/05/2019 09:07

My mil wears them. Enough said really.

woodcutbirds · 16/05/2019 09:10

I bought some slip on Skechers for a holiday where we walked between all the attractions. They are pure black and I thought they'd feel fine but actually they seem to go with nothing and they are so squidgy my feet feel like they are slopping about a bit. I wouldn't buy them again.

rareappearance · 16/05/2019 09:21

I have black slip ons that I tend to wear with trousers

They're the comfiest shoes ever and come out of the washing machine well

I've never been at an airport or abroad and critiqued someone's footwear though. That wouldn't be a consideration for me

LaPufalina · 16/05/2019 09:32

Oh god I love mine Blush my DH hates them but I have four pairs, they're brilliant for cycling to work as the soles are good with pedals. I have smart shoes under my desk but don't bother putting them on unless I have a meeting Blush

madamedeluxe · 16/05/2019 09:39

They are very comfortable and ideal for walking. I also have Nike trainers, Adidas, converse, vans, superga and ugg trainers but Skechers are definitely the most practical and comfortable.

madamedeluxe · 16/05/2019 09:39

They are also easy to get on and off with those stretchy laces which is a bonus.

millythepink · 16/05/2019 09:40

You can, just about, get away with them IF the rest of your outfit is understated and stylish. I have a pair of these Skechers but I wear them with dark grey leggings and a long, black tunic top from Cos with pockets and a chunky pewter necklace. DH says I look like a Danish architect in this outfit but I'm fine with that (I have a silvery pixie crop which helps too, I think).

Floralnomad · 16/05/2019 09:44

I’m living in 2 pairs of go walks at the moment and I’m most definitely not stylish , however my feet look better than they have in years with minimal effort from me so I don’t really care what anybody else thinks . Waiting for slightly hotter weather to move into the Birkenstock’s .

TailEndCharlie · 16/05/2019 11:05

OK so have just bought a pair of leopard print Vans in the Office sale (30 quid!) to appease the style gods but still going to have a look at Sketchers for the rave sightseeing reviews! If the Vans prove comfy and airport worthy then it will be cute trainers or Sketchers for the endless walking.

So far my bag will have Birkenstocks, Supergras, wedges, Vans and the sketchers / trainers.... I will go to the Sketchers shop next week and see exactly how terrible they look on...

Thanks for the endless help!

My DD cringed when I bought my skechers go walks but they are the comfiest things ever. I can walk for miles in them.
Also recommend Fitflops too for the summer.
Middle aged unstylish mum here but at least my feet don't hurt!

MinesaPinot · 16/05/2019 13:35

I've bought these for the last few years. They are great for travelling and so comfy. I've worn them with shorts, palazzo pants, dresses, you name it. I shall be buying another pair this year, as mine look at bit tatty (any excuse!).

Another vote for Skechers! I have recently walked for days round London and Venice, and my feet didn't hurt once - no blisters or soreness at all!
I agree they might not be the most stylish shoes, but they are SO comfortable! I've accepted that I have a rather elegant fantasy image of myself sightseeing in capital cities...which bears no relation to reality, or practicality! And as a previous poster said, no one notices anyway!

Justmuddlingalong · 16/05/2019 14:28

The only time I notice other people's footwear on holiday, is when they're hobbling about in unsuitable shoes. Feet in strappy sandals dotted with blister plasters is a worse look than Skechers.

Sunflower40 · 16/05/2019 14:29

I got a pair for Florida last summer. So comfy, but really not pretty! They were last yrs version of these (trying to look more trainer & less 60 yr old tourist!)

DontCallMeShitley · 16/05/2019 14:45

I found Skechers are very hot and made my feet swell a lot. Also the insoles were uncomfortable as they were moulded. Not sure which ones I had as I sent them back sharpish.

I bought Toms instead, the canvas espadrille type, foam still makes my feet hot but they are comfy to walk in.

wildhairdontcare · 18/05/2019 23:05

Had to share. My sketchers loving in-laws popped by for coffee today wearing his and hers blue ones with MIL proudly showing us the sketchers sandals she got for her nieces wedding next weekend!

DH muttered 'oh they do them with bling too' and I excused myself!

I’ve done Washington DC in July (when I was 27ish) and didn’t have comfort in mind, despite it being towards the end of 6 months travelling) comfy shoes for daytime would now be high in my list, with prettier shoes for evenings out. Same with NYC.
