To accept I will never look good in a pair of shorts

I'm 5ft 5 and size 10 top and size 12 bottom. Typical pear shape.
However I have absolutely awful legs. Throughout the autumn/winter is great as my legs are covered but come summer I have the same issue. I cannot show my legs. I have been blessed with horrible chunky flabby elephant style knees and chunky calves and thighs. They are also covered in cellulite.
I have tried everything to make me feel less self conscious. I've had sessions with a personal trainer last year, I've had lipo fat freezing on them (which did nothing) and I've tried dry body brushing. Nothing has worked. I had lunch today with my best mate who has legs to die for. She was wearing a gorgeous pair of tiny khaki shorts and looked fab. I sat sweltering in jeans. I think I am going to have to accept that I will never have the legs I long for.
Anyone else in the same boat?

@Mnthrowaway20199 I agree.. I started with short pyjamas to get me used to having my legs out .

Oh I definitely have lipedema. Self diagnosed years ago. Luckily i don't have lymphedema though... yet. Sad

Same here mine are fucking awful I also have swollen cankles as well as the fat knees, pasty see through skin and millions of spider veins. Maxi skirts and midis are my friends haven't worn shorts for ten years my thighs eat them.

I’m 5’7 and have really long legs and a short body. My legs in my 20’s were wonderful.

Over the years I have gained weight around my bottom, thighs and knees. I have terrible cellulite, identical to my Mum’s thighs. From the knees down is my favourite part, so I’ll take that and run with it.

It’s only recently I’ve discovered that midi and maxi dresses look much better on me than cropped trousers etc. I still wear jeans and trousers but during the red hot summer last year I favoured the floaty look. NO WAY would I have bared my thighs. They wobble so much and I wouldn’t feel confident. So shorts are a big no no! Got to be careful with a crop trouser too as depending on what top I wear and the length of the crop, can actually make me look very dumpy because of my chunky thighs.

I actually love to see muscly calves. I used to do lots of sport when I was younger and I envied my teammates who had beautiful muscle definition in their calves. However hard I worked I never gained a lovely, well defined calf muscles.

I definitely need to start working on my thigh area. I’ll never rid the cellulite! Even when I was thinner (I’m a size 12-14 now) I saw it emerging from early 30’s. Damn genetics!

Ladies, I've been following this with interest as my thighs are vile.
When I was younger & a bit slimmer I could get away with short skirts, but now I'm 38 they have got worse and I tend to cover up in wide trousers or long dresses in the summer.
I have saddlebags, bad cellulite & my huge thighs just don't seem to tone up. I also have a big bum, but that is at least toned. I exercise 4 times a week so I'm not sure what more I can do! I also have really chunky rugy player-esque calves so it's not exactly a winning combination.

Anyway I've longed to wear shorts for years, but have not found any flattering ones until now! Check these out. I'm hoping they work for some of the rest of you. I'm 5 ft4 so they don't show much more than a few inches of my thighs & the floatiness & wideness seems to distract from my problem area. I had to size up through as they are from H&M Grin
I've bought them in the blue stripe & the cream patterned. I'm hoping I can wear then with flat or heeled sandals & not look like a hippopotamus.

Also got these. They look a lot shorter on the model than they do on a mere mortal.

@sweetmarmalade mine are exactly the same as my mums too! With my dads calves thrown in for good measure Grin

So, I could have written the original post. I've decided, after a LOT of research, exercising, dieting etc to have knee liposuction. It's been something that I have wanted for a long time. Booked in for 2 July. I'll keep you updated if anyone is interested. Kxx

I am short and curvy and I wear shorts at the beach and in the garden / going for a local walk . I haven't thus far in my life but decided no one would faint if I did and once I got over myself it was ok. I wear next boy shorts or Tesco denim shorts ( I prefer these ) and a vest and it's ok ..
I use tanning drops to take the edge of my whiteness .
Honestly life is too short to be hot !

JaceLancs · 21/06/2020 22:32

I used to think it was my weight
Then I lost 5 stone - still struggle to find flattering shorts
Last 2 hot holidays I went on I packed only dresses
Day dresses and evening same
Swimwear and underwear
It was an absolute game changer - quick packing - now even at home I wear dresses all summer
Cheaper too!

Your expectations are too high.
Nobody looks good in shorts.

JoysOfString · 22/06/2020 09:09

I also have legs I don’t like - chunky, pale, blotchy, bruises (bruise very easily and always have one or two) and some lovely varicose veins to complete the look. (And that’s despite doing my best with a lumea and moisturising etc. I would never swelter in jeans on a hot day - long floaty dresses are great, or a long skirt with a fitted t-shirt or vest. It doesn’t have to be a hippy look - a black maxi dress looks great, or a long shirt dress.

Agree with pps though weirdly if I do wear shorts, short ones look best.

Megatron · 22/06/2020 09:26

@MoltonSilver oh I disagree, I think some people look fantastic in shorts. I, however, am not one of those people. Sadly.

I do.

evilharpy · 22/06/2020 13:45

Lots of people look good in shorts!

I am not one of them. I have lipodema. I'm currently a 12 but usually am a 10, have been an 8 and my legs don't get much smaller. Luckily I have ok ankles but my calves and thighs are enormous, and my thighs are like cottage cheese. Doesn't matter how low my weight goes as it all comes off my top half and I start to have very visible ribs and skinny gaunt face while my legs stay exactly the same. The only thing that will help much is liposuction which I can't afford.

Last year I had some Boy shorts from Next which weren't too bad.
