To accept I will never look good in a pair of shorts

I'm 5ft 5 and size 10 top and size 12 bottom. Typical pear shape.
However I have absolutely awful legs. Throughout the autumn/winter is great as my legs are covered but come summer I have the same issue. I cannot show my legs. I have been blessed with horrible chunky flabby elephant style knees and chunky calves and thighs. They are also covered in cellulite.
I have tried everything to make me feel less self conscious. I've had sessions with a personal trainer last year, I've had lipo fat freezing on them (which did nothing) and I've tried dry body brushing. Nothing has worked. I had lunch today with my best mate who has legs to die for. She was wearing a gorgeous pair of tiny khaki shorts and looked fab. I sat sweltering in jeans. I think I am going to have to accept that I will never have the legs I long for.
Anyone else in the same boat?

Bear legs really are furry.

EmmaC78 · 14/05/2019 22:25

Tree trunk legs here too. I have non-existent ankles and horse rider calves and thighs so look awful in shorts.

CMOTDibbler · 14/05/2019 22:27

Queen, the airbrush legs is like foundation, so not streaky (well, you could but what you see is what you get, so super easy to just rub on), and you need to use soap to get it off - I can shower and it doesn't move until I directly apply soap

Sleepinginthebathroom · 14/05/2019 22:33

My calves are SO muscular, I don't even work out that much anymore.
Any time I do brave it and wear shorts or a skirt people will make a comment.

I love skirts I love loads of shorts, and I hate that stress every time it's hot and I can't find anything to wear and people are asking why I haven't got my legs out on such a hot day - you must be boiling!! Yes thanks. I am.

birthdaymayhem · 14/05/2019 22:35

My mum has lovely slender legs and toned/slim calves.

I unfortunately didn't inherit those traits and have cankles and chunky, wobbly legs riddled with cellulite unless I'm down to a size 8 which is just too much work for me.

I still wear shorts, life's too short. Pun maybe intended.

AdmiralSirArchibald · 14/05/2019 22:37

I have awful dry skin dark patches on my knees so shorts are out for me. Midi skirts are my friends!

costacoffeecup · 14/05/2019 22:40

Yep this is me. I am not really fat but my legs are short, shapeless tree trunks.

babbi · 14/05/2019 22:41

I have lovely toned slender legs from years of dancing 💃🏾
They look great in skirts and dresses ... however I look ridiculous in shorts 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Cannot find a pair that are suitable at all .
Would appreciate if anyone could advise on how to wear shorts ?! Long , short tapered etc ? I’m a size 6 ...apple shape tendencies ... though have sculpted abs at the moment but shorts look dreadful

Embarra55ingB0D1E5 · 14/05/2019 22:47

Just a thought..... has anybody here heard of lipoedema? Typical visible signs are diet resistant limbs (most often legs), pale/mottled skin prone to bruising, disproportionate cellulite & shape.

WellTidy · 14/05/2019 22:53

No way in the world that I would wear shorts. Of any length. I have cellulite to my knees, massive thighs and bum, fat knees and pasty skin. My legs never tan or take in fake tan, so they’re always white.

I wear skirts and dresses and they work fine for me. Nothing above the knee, mind you.

Ellapaella · 14/05/2019 23:06

@babbi I always hated me in shorts until I discovered that actually the shorter the shorts the more flattering they were! I have a very long thigh in comparison to calf so always thought shorts looked weird on me and not a good look.
Last summer I tried a pair of the shorter length Boden chino shorts and they are great. The one and only pair of shorts I have ever owned that actually look acceptable.

Catchingbentcoppers · 14/05/2019 23:18

Good lord, I've not had my chunky monkey legs out in a pair of shorts for about 30 years and that's not about to change. Skirts all the way for me.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 14/05/2019 23:18

i have horrible legs, they are MASSIVE, big muscular calves, huge wobbly thighs, fat massiveley fat knees and they are so pale that milk looks like its blushing next to me BUT i don't give a fuck, i wear shorts anyway. no one has ever ever commented on my elgs and i refuse to swelter away just in case. Oh and ive also found shorter shorts look better, not daisy dukes but definitely on the shorter end of things

horizontalis · 14/05/2019 23:22

I have accepted that I will never look good in shorts any more (a good few years ago maybe, but not now!) but I have embraced the challenge and will wear them anyway.

I'm too old to give a shit these days Grin

babbi · 15/05/2019 04:49

@ellapaella ... I’ve never tried really short , shorts...thinking it’s not appropriate in my 50s 😬
However I’ll give it a go !
Thanks very much

habibihabibi · 15/05/2019 05:02

You just have to work with what you have.
I have long slim legs but terrible terrible arms,
I never ever wear sleeves shorter than elbow length. I wear a rash vest swimming and never expose my arms ever. Even my PJ's have long sleeves.
I live in a boiling hot country as well.

momjeanss · 15/05/2019 06:01

I'm the same - size 10/12, but all my fat gravitates towards my thighs and knees. I've given up on shorts and stick to knee length or maxi skirts/dresses. Wish I could wear shorts or short skirts and feel confident in them!!

AnotheChinHair · 15/05/2019 06:11

Same here, I am not fat but I am short and pear shaped and my thighs are my worst feature. I look awful in a swimsuit, never mind shorts which I haven't owned since I was 5!

IAmNotPatientOrPregnant · 15/05/2019 06:16

I have the same problem. 5,1" size 12 on my thighs but a 10 on my waist.. so annoying!

It doesnt matter what shirts I wear, they make my thighs look like an uncooked joint if pork bulging out if the string casing.

I hate shorts, I never used to show my legs but I've started to wear skirts and dresses on the summer. But I still have to wear tights because chafe 😱😱

Fatted · 15/05/2019 06:20

Meant in the nicest way possible, nobody else gives a shit about your legs. I'd probably notice a random stranger sweating away in a pair of jeans on a hot day and feel sorry for them though.

I don't like how mine look when compared with other people's, but if it's hot enough for shorts then I'm wearing shorts.

blibblibs · 15/05/2019 06:22

I feel your pain, my legs are without a doubt my worst feature. Chankles, fat knees and no improvement further up.
I can grow an impressive beard but if I had one wish to change something it would be my legs!
I'm a size 12 but have never worn leggings or skinny jeans as all you can see is fat knee and at 5ft 1 midi and maxi skirts aren't a good look.

Fatted · 15/05/2019 06:24

Also IMO shorts are also much more flattering than those hideous garishly patterned hareem pants every one insists on wearing.

gubbsywubbsy · 15/05/2019 06:24

I'm the same but with the weather last year I actually left the house in a pair of shorts with a vest and a kimono .. we only went to a friends bbq but it was 30 odd degrees and it felt empowering ..
I' wear them around the house in the summer and to bed and they are lovely to wear . I wish I had nice legs 😩.. I find cami midi dresses the most flattering style on me although I do have to fight the chub rub ( don't I sound like a treat !! 🙄🙄

Devondoggydaycare · 15/05/2019 06:36

My DH once told me that I look like Gunner Sugden from It Ain't Half Hot Mum in a pair of shorts. Thanks for that.

Sarcelle · 15/05/2019 06:39

Boasting, but after a few years of healthy eating I have a decent hourglass figure. However, my legs are a different story. Pale, mottled, cellulite ridden, doughy knees, spongy thighs. From mid calf downwards, they are fine. The rest are, and always have been, a bit of a disaster area.

As soon as there is a bit of sun my DH throws on a pair of shorts. I so envy him. Last summer it got so hot I tried to find some shorts. Had to abandon the idea. A can of Sally Hansen Airbrush is not going to cut it with my lumpy lower limbs.
