Oh and we are thinking of maybe taking the herd there later this year!

putthebinout · 12/05/2019 09:04

Oh yes that looks very similar

ilovecherries · 12/05/2019 09:45

I did wonder when you said you’d ordered it, laska! The reviews are positive though but when I saw it in JL I assumed initially it had been dumped on the Hush rails from another concession. It reminds me though of the fabric I had in a dress in the 70s, when I was going through my ‘peace, man’ boho phase before I decided I was actually a punk.

Actually I was talking about this with a friend recently. I definitely had a flower power stage, then I was very into punk, and by the 80s was much more rock at the weekends, budding corporate during the week. But underpinning all these styles was a real anti-establishment, political vibe, with a lot of musical influence. I’m maybe just not able to recognise it any more, but we live next to a university so I see a lot of young women going past, and their hair, clothing, makeup looks very identikit.

I’d love to time travel and see the 70s through my eyes now.

Such a beautiful morning here! And so pleasant to catch up with chat over a coffee ☕️
Had a day off the hardcore diet yesterday, pub lunch with 2 Wine of finest Malbec and then we retreated to our friebds’ garden for the rest of the afternoon and chatted well into the evening. It was special.
I’ve never heard of “Lush” as a word for drinking wine. Is that what it means?
DH and I travelled for 3 months in Australia back in 88 (part of our year long roundtheworld trip and advance honeymoon before getting married 4 years later). It was like going back to the 50’s. I loved it.
I like your primark goodies @len
The Hush shorts arrived yesterday while we were out but haven’t tried yet. Will let you know later.
@soups have miserably failed to look for biker jackets but like the whistles collarless one you found
@nink love the straw bag you linked
@ella your girly Sat sounds fab. Nothing like spending good times with old friends to lift our spirits and make us feel all is well with the world
@justi lovely pics! Ah La Mer

SoyYo · 12/05/2019 10:15

Ah yes I meant to add we traveled in Aus 3 months in a campervan 👍

SoyYo · 12/05/2019 10:20

On the music influencing our clothes I agree @cherries totally the case with me. I was at college in the early 80’s (friends we saw yesterday are from that era and we’re still just as close today) and I remember the “batman bar” at college where you’d get the different new romantic/punk/boho/rocker tribes. Everyone seemed to gave a tribe then and dress accordingly Grin but we all mixed with each other too. The Mohican boy and the long haired with the New romantic girl in lace and the goths were starting to come in too.
Happy Days!

SoyYo · 12/05/2019 10:22

And @laska I never said it but I’ve always been a bit Hmm about that Hush t. Glad you confirmed my suspicions. I just don’t like that pattern...I’m sure the ombré too will be tons better (it’s in my wish list) so wait to hear what you think...

SoyYo · 12/05/2019 10:24

I mean ombré top with hoodie. I really like it.

SoyYo · 12/05/2019 10:25

There’s nothing that compares with putting the world to rights with friends you share decades of history with ❤️

twosoups1972 · 12/05/2019 10:34

Morning all, it's a lovely sunny day here in London, hope everyone else is enjoying some nice weather.

@just the photos look beautiful. I have never been to either Aus or NZ but would love to go one day. The flights put me off!

@Soy I have ordered the Whistles one to try. Can't really afford it at the moment but we will see. Have you managed to start your wardrobe clearance?

Here at chez soups, we really must crack on with booking a summer holiday. We have a fairly tight budget this year and have thought about Ireland. Haven't priced it up though and talking to a friend yesterday, she said Europe is really expensive now and they got a good deal to go to St Lucia. They booked early though, I don't imagine we'll get a good deal this late.

ilovecherries · 12/05/2019 10:41

I need to book something as well, soups. What always puts me off is the complexity (and then the cost!), of the travel insurance we require. I buy the insurance for a year and we put DD on it as well, as her insurance requirements are even more complex than mine, and I can’t cope with having to do it more than once a year. But I hate, hate, hate the process of buying it, telling your entire medical history to someone with an algorithm at the other end. I always feel despondent and worried by the end of the process, and worry that I’ve ommitted the one thing that will allow them to void the policy.

twosoups1972 · 12/05/2019 10:45

cherries I don't know if this would work for you with your medical history, but we have a continuous policy with Churchill.

ilovecherries · 12/05/2019 11:22

Thanks, I will have a look soups. My experience is that even with rollover policies, they require an annual medical review. Actually, it’s unlikely that DD would get ill so quickly, or my injury would relapse to an extent that we couldn’t throw money at an early flight home. What does worry me is that either of us would have an unrelated emergency or accident requiring expensive hospitalisation and the policy would use a non disclosure loophole to void the policy for the new incident.

@soups I was out yesterday so no chance and today our garden calls, it needs some TLC and the day is perfect for it. Need to do potting of some plug plants I bought a couple of weeks ago (or they’ll die) plus weeding and sweeping our patio while DH gets on with grass cutting and hedge pruning, etc so I’m afraid today I’ll be green fingered lady instead of wardrobe sort out...never enough time if I want to have some down time too at the weekend (like yesterday or previous weekends in Norfolk).
Keeping fingers crossed the whistles one is a good choice and what you’re hoping for Smile. Don’t give up if it isn’t, it takes trying a few before finding “the one”

dontcallmelen · 12/05/2019 11:34

Morning, sun is shining here it’s actually quite warm.
Yy cherries travel insurance, hate hate the process & the time spent worrying I have left something off, thereby giving the ins company a way to void the policy, I have to sort it out soon as off to Ibiza in June & Menorca in July.
Soups sometimes you can get deals in the Caribbean in July/Aug as it’s not the peak season in the Caribbean as such, I can recommend Rodney Bay in St.Lucia.
Laska 😂😂 at Bon Marche T-shirt.
Just beautiful photos.
Ella sounds like a really lovely weekend enjoy.
Soy again sounds like a fabulous weekend, yy spending time with old friends nothing nicer.

justilou1 · 12/05/2019 12:25

@Soy - Australia was probably like the 50's in the 80's. A lot has changed since. Those cutesy regional towns are now ridiculously expensive if they're near a beach. Luckily I plan to retire in the mountains. (I don't dig sand.) I think when you're used to driving around Europe and you can potter between villages and towns, the distances in Australia with a lot of NOTHING in the middle would be mind-numbing. You can drive for hours and see desert on both sides, or cane fields, or bush (I quite like the bush, tbh... but roadkill doesn't inspire me much.) The highways tend to bypass towns now, and there is honestly nothing to see apart from roads, service stations which are all cloned from the same master cell, serving the same dreadful coffee and the same snacks. New Zealand's smaller and has more towns and they're closer together. It also has volcanos and glaciers and kakapos. Before you go, @Laska, you have to read Douglas Adams book "Last Chance to See". (Borrow from a library - don't buy it!) His chapter about the Kakapo is brilliantly funny. His digression about emus made me laugh so hard on a plane (which I was trying to smother) someone thought I was having an asthma attack. Since this book was written (70's? Early 80's?) despite being possibly the stupidest bird in the world, the New Zealanders have dragged them back from the brink of extinction. They are so full of hope.

Binkybix · 12/05/2019 13:52

justilou1 I might have the chance to move to Sydney for a couple of years soon. Were you born in Oz?

justilou1 · 12/05/2019 14:41

Yes @Binky, I’m an Aussie. I grew up in Melbourne, but now I live in Brisbane. Sydney is halfway between the two! It’s very pretty, but living in Aus is very expensive. Make sure you get a good cost comparison! (We have a federal election coming up, so maybe the cost of living will improve - who knows?!?!)

justilou1 · 12/05/2019 14:42

@Binky - Feel free to pm me if you want any help with real estate advice, school stuff, or anything, really!

Binkybix · 12/05/2019 14:53

Thanks! I will do that when have a bit longer. We live in London now, and would get housing paid for and an extra allowance, which would help with the cost.

Laska2Meryls · 12/05/2019 18:54

Just come in from a long walk, beach , cliffs and railway track circuit its been so ly here today, I wore total Hush!! chino shorts , TigerT Blue wren and panama! Good job I did I look a little windburned on my face even so ..

I wore my new walking sandals (which i have been breaking in ) but but sadly feet are a bit sore again (but not like last time ) , I had thought they had completely healed and hardened up , but no , I still have my winter s baby soft soles .. Ill be ok though its not like last time..

just a quick update whilst Dh in the shower, dinner almost on the table , back later

SoyYo · 12/05/2019 20:19

Well I didn’t tackle wardrobe but spent hours gardening and gave conservatory spring clean including window washing 😅😅😅 it’s all looking great now and it was a perfect day for puttering in the garden too, all potting of spring flowers done too!

I am a bit shattered so just chucked some oven bits for boys with my salmon, they’ll have it with new potatoes and green salad. For me just green salad with salmon and I will go chill now.

@justi yes I can imagine Oz has changed beyond recognition...we drove up the coast from Melbourne to Port Douglas and it was sooo relaxed. Brisbane is so tropically beautiful. We also went inland till we found signs saying “do not go beyond this point without enough water and provisions for 4 days” and that was proper bush. I remember women weren’t allowed in the “public bars” and DH got a few funny looks when I got it wrong. People used to wear safari bermuda style shorts in sleepy seaside towns. Fraser Island and the Whitsunday islands were awesome and wild. DH got offered a job repairing radios for ships so dammit if we didn’t have an onwards ticket to Fiji (where we spent another 3 months) I could have fulfilled my life ambition of becoming a fully fledged beach bum. And snorkelling in atolls in the barrier reef was so beautiful we ended up doing a proper diving course and becoming padi certified in Fiji. Only beautiful memories of your beautiful country and people but it was indeed a different time...

SoyYo · 12/05/2019 20:23

@laska your walk sounds amazing! I agree being near the sea is where I’m happiest too, and IOW is another really beautiful place.

justilou1 · 12/05/2019 21:35

@Soy, I am pretty sure that laws actually banning women from public bars were repealed in the 60’s, but Far North Qld kept the culture alive. In the 80’s we had an era of crooked cops and ancient, right-wing politicians. (Heading back there now!) I was married in s tiny wooden church on the beach in Port Douglas, with a big window that opened out onto the Harbour. The photographer had strict instructions not to take photos of us with cruise ships coming out of our ears.
