Previous thread

Any guesses on what Meghan will wear to introduce baby Sussex? I'm guessing Givenchy as it's her go-to designer for big events.

Then again she could surprise us all and come out in a JoJo Maman Bébé breastfeeding tunic!

I just hope they don't decide on John as a first name - so boring and hardly unusual!

Not at all. You rarely meet a baby John nowadays. I love it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/05/2019 20:18

I don't think so @Laiste, sounds like an urban legend akin to HM's list of rules about bare shoulders and nail varnish colours etc!

If they choose Spencer as his first name, he could have Marks as a nickname! Wink

Laiste · 06/05/2019 20:27

I can understand wanting to exercise a certain restraint when choosing a name for a royal - but i'd hope the actual list is indeed an urban legend.

John - Johnathan - is a nice name. My DD2's long term boyfriend is a Jonathan. Johno. Lovely lad :)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/05/2019 20:33

I thought Meghan had said somewhere they had been given some names to consider? The Queen has vetoed names in the past.

thenightsky · 06/05/2019 20:40

From previous thread....

Harry doesn’t ride, does he?

I thought him and William were both accomplished polo players?

RaymondReddington · 06/05/2019 20:43

I wonder if they’ll use Charles Philip Spencer, and nickname to Charlie / Chuck

AFifthOfKoolAid · 06/05/2019 20:46

Markle Spencer. Finally giving that nod to the dowdy British high street that people demand from her.

“I thought him and William were both accomplished polo players?”

Not the same as being able to ride!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 06/05/2019 20:52

The stables were up at the castle not near Frogmore. Probably staff or working horses looking at where they were in the grounds.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/05/2019 20:58

There is no “list” AFAI am aware. I just mentioned 20 names because every time Kate had a baby, the list of names being suggested ( by bookmakers; on threads etc) seemed to be very short for Princes.
At least for Lord Dumbarton, they can branch out into more aristo / jilly Cooper type names
Hugo / Tristan / Lysander anyone?

Retrospective of !Meghan pregnancy fashion
She definitely got into her style groove towards the end.

As far as I can work out, the last time a 7th in line to the throne was born (rather than been moved up/down to that position by someone else dying or being born), it would have been Sarah Chatto (line of succession being Charles, Andrew, Edward, Anne, Margaret, David) and I can't see her or, for that matter her brother's name, being on a pre-selected list.
At the time of his birth, her brother David would have been 5th in line to the throne. He moved down to 6th in the birth of Prince Edward & then they must have kept those positions for over a decade until Peter Phillips was born. They would have still been in the top dozen when Lady Louise was born and it's only with the great-grandchildren that they have moved out of the top 20. Yet, apart from appearing at royal weddings or on the balcony at BP from time to time, they generally seem to have been out of the limelight getting on with their own lives, don't they, and it could well be the same for this baby in decades to come.
It will be interesting to see how interest in the baby changes over the years. This baby is one of eight great-grandchilden of the monarch, so, from a MN AIBU perspective rather than an order of succession perspective, equal to the Tindall and Phillips children as well as W&K's but, when the queen dies and Charles ascends the throne, will have a more exclusive relationship as it will be one of only four grandchildren of the monarch whilst the Tindall Phillips children will have a less direct relationship of being great niece & nephew.
Depending on how old William is when he becomes king, this baby could either be fifth in line to the throne (none of W&K's children having had children and all of them & Harry still being alive) or it could be decades away and W&K could be grandparents themselves and this baby bumped way down the line of succession.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/05/2019 21:06

A PA photographer Steve Parsons and PA reporter Alan Jones interviewed Harry and I guess they’ll be the only 2 allowed back to photograph Meghan and the baby, then share out the photos.

queenofarles · 06/05/2019 21:06

Anyone watched the woman with balloons on Sky Grin Grin ,

hopeishere · 06/05/2019 21:10

Place marking.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 06/05/2019 21:13

With the piss head friend?

didofido · 06/05/2019 21:16

They can't possibly call him Spencer - that's an old fashioned vest...

allworthwhile · 06/05/2019 21:21

Regarding the press - It depends who’s on the PA rota on the day

queenofarles · 06/05/2019 21:22

it’s just too funny Grin watch both videos

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 06/05/2019 21:32

Yes I saw her, her sloshed mate turns up and can’t string a sentence together without slurring either. Then they pop a bottle of Prosecco! (Was dying for the police to come along and confiscate it because it’s a no alcohol zone!)

Butterymuffin · 06/05/2019 21:37

At last! Would be good to have Charles, Philip and Spencer as middle names and something of their own choice for his first name.

queenofarles · 06/05/2019 21:42

Oh my god the cutest!

Royal style & gossip: the baby's here, now back to the frocks!
