Where do you buy your tall clothes

Hi.
I'm 43 and 5' 10.
I buy (and return lots to) from Next and Dorothy Perkins. Really sick of the polyester and the cuts DP use are terrible.

Where can I get some decent tall clothes made from normal fabric! I would like Fat Face for example, but no tall.

I so fed up at this stage of my life trawling through websites, finding something nice and then having to check if they do it in longer length etc etc.

Help, I'm frazzled.

I got fed up with DP too

Now buy jeans at H&M

T's at Hush (have a dozen of their longer length vests and long sleeve Ts)

And just normal "short people" clothes everywhere else, eg midis are often knee length on me

Am 6ft btw

Skirts and dresses I tend to make myself, because dresses in particular never fit. I have some lovely long t shirts from Me & Em years ago but they don't seem to do them now. Gap Tall tops are a good length. Trousers I often wear ankle length anyway (just as well...).

Miniloso · 05/05/2019 08:48

Long Tall Sally are ok for some things...

Boatsexer · 05/05/2019 08:49

Long tall Sally

thetallcollective.com/

Asos Tall but there is a lot of polyester on there.

I have befriended my local seamstress - she can work wonders!

Also, there's a great FB group called Long Tall Sally buy/sell/trade which is generally good for all things tall.

Imaystillbedrunk · 05/05/2019 08:51

I feel so disengaged when shopping. Everything is too short, badly cut and boring. I don't want to wear plain black trousers to work everyday.

Primark do length 34" jeans which sit on my ankle that aren't too bad.

Lucked · 05/05/2019 08:54

Boden but they don’t do tall tops, just dresses and trouser

Whatsnewpussyhat · 05/05/2019 09:06

It's crap isn't it. DP used to be ok. Asos has gone massively downhill too.
I'm only 5ft6 but with a long torso. I buy tall so the clothes sit round my waist not my rib cage!
Next tall always seems huge compared to the same size in standard.

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2019 09:16

Gap Tall online.
Nearly everything they do has a Tall version, it’s a different tab on the size selection table.

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2019 09:19

Me too @whatsnewpussycat, 5’8, but all in my torso and thighs (I have ridiculously short, bulky calves). I also but Tall trousers as they tend to have a higher rise, and then take the hems up!

Livvylovesgin · 05/05/2019 09:25

My 6ft friend takes a cheap flight to Amsterdam twice per year, just for clothes shopping. Is that possible? She loves the normality of shops who cater for taller women with a wider range of clothes that fit. Also just a bit different to here, she always looks amazing!

Or do 'Dutch' brands offer UK delivery online? Perhaps another option?

SuperNoodly · 05/05/2019 09:31

It’s a mystery to me that Tall ranges haven’t really increased or improved over the years. I’m 42 and 5’11 and I’ve had this issue my whole life! It makes shopping so stressful as you have to really hunt for the most basic items.

I get a few basics - vests, leggings etc - from Next, but the fabrics are so cheap and scratchy on 90% of their clothing range.

Boden can be OK for trousers and dresses if you stick to the plain colours. H&M good for jeans. Occasionally find something decent on ASOS.

I can’t stand Long Tall Sally. Uninspiring styles and the sizing is weird (I’m usually a 12-14, but an LTS 12 hangs off me yet 10 is too tight; also the arms on coats and jackets are too long).

I tend to wear dresses to work as it’s easier to find a midi length dress than trousers/skirts and a top. Hobbs, Jigsaw, Phase Eight, LK Bennett, M&S Autograph, Coast all tend to have dresses that work on taller women (although I tend to buy secondhand from eBay!).

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2019 09:34

That’s a good point Livvy, I discovered Hema on a work trip to The Netherlands - but like Uniqlo but Dutch, and with housewares too- and they have a UK based website.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/05/2019 09:38

@BikeRunSki There are a couple of HEMA shops in London now but I'm not sure if they do clothes there. Definitely homewards and toiletries.

SinglePringle · 05/05/2019 09:39

ASOS Tallis a good range. I’m 5’9 and 45 and buy a lot from there.

SinglePringle · 05/05/2019 09:39

Also, Arkett are great for longer lengths

Pinkyyy · 05/05/2019 09:42

I'm having the same issue trying to find swimsuits for tall people at the minute OP. It's a nightmare.

yellowsun · 05/05/2019 09:45

Jeans from next or tunics/dresses with leggings. Skirts and dresses for work. It’s rubbish. I’ve just bought some nice Fat Face jeggings which I'm wearing rolled up as cropped jeans!

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2019 09:47

@Pinkyyy, I was on a similar search, and found the holy trinity of long length/chlorine resistance and boob support in the Halocline range at Simply Swim. I’ve got the Stella suit, it’s been great so far, must have swum 400 ish lengths in it.

Shantotto · 05/05/2019 09:51

I buy from ASOS but have to be very picky, Gap Tall is good. Long Tall Sally occasionally but it’s so expensive now, and I haven’t liked anything for ages!

It’s a struggle. Boden do some dresses in a longer length but they’re no good to me as they just stick a bit of extra length on, no difference or cut or sleeve length etc.

It’s annoying!

keepingbees · 05/05/2019 09:52

I'm about 5'8" with long arms and legs. Trying to get clothes that fit drives me mad and like others have said I don't know why nothing has moved forward seeing as humans are supposed to be getting taller!
I have a Fatface rain jacket and hoodie which are both generous in arm length and fit fine so might be worth a look.
New look do a good tall range, they do long and extra long. I wear their tall leggings and they are good quality and generous length.
I never found the DP tall range to be long enough. Next are hit and miss.

mysteryfairy · 05/05/2019 09:52

Still Top shop for jeans as they have a good 36 inch leg selection
Me and Em for trousers, maxi skirts and dresses, some workwear
Agree with Hush for long length vests and t shirts but h and m also sometimes have them in cotton basics far cheaper

Olibel · 05/05/2019 12:08

Thank you ladies for all your tips! The struggle is real. I put another post on here about trying to find a jumpsuit that Morgana Robinson wore in an episode of travel man with Richard Ayoade. She's tall and it was devine - but no-one can find it. That's the struggle!

I had tried to find online Dutch and Danish shops to no avail, so I'm very delighted to know about HEMA 👍.

Anyone fancy a weekend in Amsterdam????

OP posts:
keepingbees · 05/05/2019 12:46

I quite fancy seeing Amsterdam Grin

Stupid question but why do have good tall clothes there, are the Dutch tall?

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2019 12:49

I think the Dutch are the tallest nation on Earth!
