Where do you buy your tall clothes

Hi.
I'm 43 and 5' 10.
I buy (and return lots to) from Next and Dorothy Perkins. Really sick of the polyester and the cuts DP use are terrible.

Where can I get some decent tall clothes made from normal fabric! I would like Fat Face for example, but no tall.

I so fed up at this stage of my life trawling through websites, finding something nice and then having to check if they do it in longer length etc etc.

Help, I'm frazzled.

Mainly lots of careful searching on eBay. Next for leggings and tall jeans. 6’1.

Shmithecat2 · 05/05/2019 13:03

I'm 6'2. It's slim pickings still... Next are not too bad especially for jeans. I need a 36/37" inside leg, and most of their XXL lengths are ok. Asos occasionally. LTS if I'm not feeling too annoyed about being mugged 😏 I'm 44 in a few weeks, and it's marginally better now than it was when I hit 6ft (at 13yo) but not much. Wallis have just launched a 'Tall' range - with a 31" inside leg 😂😂😂😂🙄

breakfastpizza · 05/05/2019 13:08

Gap Tall for shirts. Stick to 100% cotton.

Most of the usual shops have tall trousers.

Shmithecat2 · 05/05/2019 13:13

@breakfastpizza
Most of the usual shops have tall trousers.

Yeah and what most of the usual shops class as 'tall' leaves a lot to be desired for actual tall people.

Longdistance · 05/05/2019 13:24

I’m 43 and 5’10” too. I shop in New Look, ASOS, DP, H&M and Zalando. I think Longtallsally are expensive for their stuff, and it’s going to be their downfall.

RedRiverShore · 05/05/2019 13:44

LTS is very expensive, I mostly buy from Next Tall, Gap tall, and tunic tops from White Stuff and Seasalt as they normally come up quite long with 3/4 length sleeves. I’m 5’10” tall

Livvylovesgin · 05/05/2019 14:02

Weekend in Amsterdam?
Given the short flight and great train links into the center, my friend sometimes goes for the day...6.30am flight out, back early evening. ...more than enough time!

Olibel · 05/05/2019 14:14

@BikeRunSki I'll definitely be having a look at them - they're a bit hippier than my taste but I'm sure I'll find a few quirky pieces there.

Didn't know about Wallis, thanks for that @Shmithecat2. I've just had a look and can see they state their tall trousers are 34" inside leg.
There's an awful lot of floral and animal prints though - both of which I avoid. Would love if the likes of SkunkFunk did a tall range. Think I'm deep down looking for some pieces that shout 'urban edgy clothing'.

I grew up in the North West of Ireland and was considered a giant in my small town. I wore men's Levi's throughout the teenage years and oversized tops, t shirts and shirts.

Now I've put on some weight and wearing a size 18 on top, nothing will bloody go around me. I'll have to start wearing men's clothing (I've started running to try and get back to my normal 14-16).

Seriously think now I'll do some research and go over to Amsterdam in the coming months.

I've a friend living there that I have never visited 😉
In in Dublin at the moment too.

I'm 6ft. I wear LTS jeans and long sleeve tops, jumpers and shirts. next tall work trousers and gap tall denim shorts. That's pretty much all I have... hate the limited wardrobe choice!

SuperNoodly · 05/05/2019 14:24

I’ve often thought about a trip to Amsterdam! Danish women seem to be generally quite tall, too. Copenhagen? Grin

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2019 14:59

@Olibel There has been a bit of discussion about the Wallis tall range on the LTS buy/sell/trade FB page recently. It seems disappointingly short.

Shmithecat2 · 05/05/2019 15:27

@BikeRunSki yes, I'm in that group. When Wallis first started advertising their Tall section online, they would give the 'regular' length of 73cm and then said that Tall would be 5cm longer, so 38cm/31in. Now its 34 all of a sudden? And a woman posted a pic of a jumpsuit she ordered - she was a 34 inside and it really was flapping a good three inches above her ankles.

Olibel · 05/05/2019 16:32

I'll join the group!

Link for the group.

geekaMaxima · 05/05/2019 17:13

Howies women's jeans in long have a 33" inside leg but it's on the generous side and tends to be 33-34. I've also ordered their men's slim jeans with 34" leg and they've learned my shape beautifully after a few wears (like real denim is supposed to but "women's denim" with tight weave and elastene never does).

Gossypium are the holy grail for properly long joggers, leggings, harem pants etc. because you specify a custom leg length. It's definitely an investment buy but they're the best quality I've ever encountered and appear to be indestructible.

Tops are usually ok for me in high street longer length but I tend to wear men's cardigans and jumpers for the arm length.

Coats are my real nightmare as i can't find a style I like that has long enough arms. My coats are all embarrassingly ancient. Shock Suggestions welcome!

I'm 5'10 but mostly arms and legs Grin

I'm not even all that tall and 31" is bloody useless.

I'm 5'9" with long legs, and arms like a fucking gibbon, totally rocking that look of pathetic little wrists dangling out of too-short sleeves.

Next trousers get me through work, plus a pair I got in the Monsoon sale which are just about okay with short boots and will be ankle-grazers in the summer.

My best recent find was a Regatta waterproof riding jacket with sleeves that are almost too long, even for me.

For anybody who does outdoorsy stuff and requires clothes that are waterproof, windproof and cow-pat coloured, Seeland trousers are utterly amazing. As standard, their inside leg is about 33". Very expensive though, but now is the time of year to buy them as they're on sale.

My bugbear is bloody socks. Ladies 4-7 are always a bit too small, and mens are mostly that little bit too big and usually very boring. I've got a few pairs that are a good fit but not enough.

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2019 17:54

@GrumpyMiddleAgeWoman
Try BAM men’s socks not too baggy, nice pattens in big sizes too.

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2019 17:55

@geekaMaxima interesting about Gossypium. I had some yoga pants from them about 10 years ago which were far too short, but no longer/tailored option.

Swiftier · 05/05/2019 18:02

I haven’t found anywhere I really like. I’m 5 ft 10 and size 8. LTS has loads of stuff but their stuff is all massive - the size 8s hang off my waist. I’ve found a few good work trousers from Mint Velvet, I don’t like all their stuff but have got some good plain trousers, they do the longer length (although it’s not that long - maybe 33 or 34 inches, but ok for me especially for slightly cropped summer work trousers).

burnoutbabe · 05/05/2019 18:04

i usually go for Long tall sally for jeans. i did use to go to New look/Dorothy Perkins and Top shop but its all skinny jeans or cut offs. I just want bootleg type ones for a size 16.

Didn't know Gap did them so am happily browsing now.

Stripyfeet · 05/05/2019 18:44

I'm 5'10" and also despair at the lack of choice. Have discovered relatively recently that many Oasis dresses come in a 'longer length' option, making them much more wearable.
