Zara is killing it this SS!

I could have spent £1000 in Zara yesterday - I didn't, very restrained but everything was gorgeous and I never usually say that about Zara - can be very hit and miss. I'm worried I'm chanelling my old 20 something me as it's all cami bias cut slip dresses and Ghost style dresses and lovely baggy chambray trousers which remind me of Dash. And if I had a wedding to go to, which I don't, there are beautiful halterneck chiffon voluminous maxi dresses in vivid colours. Anyone else loving it?

Love that white dress Fancy, and it has pockets. I ordered a load of cotton dresses there last year in the heatwave and didn't find them particularly small TBH.

DeadWife

LonelyI lived in a Spanish city for a while and Mango was much better than Zara there but back in the U.K. it seems the opposite, not sure why?

That's interesting to me because I see a lot of nice things from Mango in the press, and always pop in to look around when I'm on a shopping trip, but have never found anything I want to buy whereas I have in Zara. Maybe I need to have a look next time I'm in Spain.

In other news... this thread has prompted me to look at Hush (which I hadn't heard of until now) and I've bought a dress. Hope it's as good as the fact that there's "an ongoing Hush thread on here for years" implies.

Catchingbentcoppers · 04/05/2019 12:37

I've gone right off Zara. Their shops are turning into TK Maxx and I hate the website, it's really cheap looking. Moan moan moan ...

RedRiverShore · 04/05/2019 12:37

That peach and yellow dress thing is the most awful thing ever, it looks like someone has quickly tacked two bits of horrendous colour polyester together and added a couple of bits of old bra straps to it

quizqueen · 04/05/2019 12:52

I hope all of you who buy new clothes continually without any real need (including the possible journey to get them) are not the same lot who spout on about the dangers of climate change all the time!!

LaMarschallin · 04/05/2019 12:53

@JMAngel1

Noted that you don't like Hush, Boden, White Company and Next but what other clothing retailers do you like?
Asking because I have had some lovely thing from Zara, so some of your tastes may overlap with mine, and have discovered Hush which I liked and never knew about (so obviously some of our tastes don't overlap Smile) so any recommendations would be welcome.
I don't like Next either.

CountFosco · 04/05/2019 12:57

Quizqueen I think pretty much everyone in the west buys more clothes than we really 'need' for survival. I know Zara is a big offender in the fast fashion stakes but if it's still possible to buy a cotton shirt dress with pockets like I did last year that I'll wear for years then that's OK.

Cegbee · 04/05/2019 12:58

I'm pregnant and just got this, maybe I'm yearning for my childhood when I used to tie dye my own clothes and didn't have to worry about growing a baby??

Tricky thin straps on that dress unless you are very small in the bust department.

millymae · 04/05/2019 13:29

I’m another who has never had much success with Zara - nothing seems to fit me properly,
I have 2 big shops close to me and they are both a bit of a jumble that I’ve never really got to grips with.
I do dip into the Hush thread from time and have a couple of tops from there ( bought from a John Lewis so that I could try them on first) that I wear all the time.
Until recently despite its OTT prices Jigsaw has been my go to simply because the styling seems to suit my shape and my local store is nice to browse. I accepted the cost because there was never a risk that you could buy one day and find it reduced the next, but this has changed now - and I’m not convinced that quality is what it was. A couple of my recent tops have bobbled badly after only a couple of wears.
Although I don’t mind spending money I don’t on the whole have expensive tastes - my go to denim jeans at the moment are from Sainsburys. Someone on here recommended them and I’m really glad they did!.

BringMeTea · 04/05/2019 13:41

I find Zara often do a nice line in summery cotton tops. Lots of polyester but the odd gem. The OP has been around yonks so back off all the hunters. You crack on OP.

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2019 13:45

LaMarschallin - I don't get on with a lot if the high street as the vanity sizing makes shopping tricky. I like Topshop, H&M, Allsaints and if money was no object Vivienne Westwood. Online I use Shein for more unusual pieces and sometimes Silk Fred but more spendy on there.

Didn't realise this thread was going to cause such a stir although I'm just chuffed Floisme recognises me - salute!

juliensaor your post has cracked me up - that dress is bloody gorgeous!!! My heart nearly stopped in the shop when I saw it hanging on the back wall from a distance - it beat any real romance moment I've ever had! sad but true.

Also to those who have said that the yellow halterneck maxi couldn't be worn to a wedding, you have obviously never been to an Irish wedding - the glamour is staggering!!

@JMAngel1

Many thanks for getting back to me. The online names are new to me and I will investigate them.
I should also apologise for doubting you upthread. To me you did come across as a Zara representative, but I see other posters (I'm relatively new) recognise you of old and are sure you're not. So I really am sorry.
Although, that long mustard satiny dress for a wedding? We move in very different circles.
And you're probably glad of that Smile

goose1964 · 04/05/2019 13:54

I've only ever bought one thing from Zara, it's a dark pink marl v neck t-shirt with 3/4 length sleeves. It is years old now but still going strong

flobella · 04/05/2019 13:55

I love Boden 😳

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2019 13:56

No worries LaMarschallin - maybe I'm wasted on the NHS and should go into fashion marketing - woukd be a helluva lot more fun!
Thanks BringMeTea.

Oh! I didn't know this and obviously haven't been to an Irish wedding.
Want to now though.

StargazyDrifter · 04/05/2019 13:57

I'd be very keen to hear more about Shein. It sometimes pops up in the ads I get and I've been meaning to try it out but wondered if it's reliable or not.

Her0utdoors · 04/05/2019 14:00

I'm far too matronly of stature these days, but 40 something dh was squealing with delight to find that their clothes fit him and he feels trendy. He's a borderline podgy 6'3", which peaks me slightly, because even as an athletic size 12/ 5'8" pre dc, their clothes always looked crappy on me....

Elllllle · 04/05/2019 14:05

Shein is v v cheap clothing, please query whether you are happy to support this sort of brand ethically.

BringMeTea · 04/05/2019 14:07

Yup. Shein = Sheit.

Ha, no concept of too much, which I love!! (I was born & raised here but my parents are Dubliners & all my family are still there).
