I could have spent £1000 in Zara yesterday - I didn't, very restrained but everything was gorgeous and I never usually say that about Zara - can be very hit and miss. I'm worried I'm chanelling my old 20 something me as it's all cami bias cut slip dresses and Ghost style dresses and lovely baggy chambray trousers which remind me of Dash. And if I had a wedding to go to, which I don't, there are beautiful halterneck chiffon voluminous maxi dresses in vivid colours. Anyone else loving it?

Lonely I lived in a Spanish city for a while and Mango was much better than Zara there but back in the U.K. it seems the opposite, not sure why?

Gwenhwyfar · 04/05/2019 09:54

"Yes, why do we not have more Mango stores? I always end up in there when we go abroad. Less 'catwalk trends' huge shoulder pads or sharp diagonal cut hems than Zara."

When I lived on the continent, I was 'Miss Mango'. I used to buy the same things in different colours and just wear Mango stuff to work every day.
Over here, the Mango shops are full of really trendy, fashion-victim things. I've never bought anything from a UK Mango.

I'm fairly sure the op is a long standing regular so, if she really is a marketing undercover, then she must have been playing a mighty long game and I can only applaud her.

Zara though .... it can look so great online. I like that jacket and the asymmetric top and the yellow dress isn't my thing but still very pretty. But the last time I went in a real store, about 6 weeks ago, I nearly walked straight out again. I hadn't been for a while and was quite shocked at how poor it all looked. They had a skirt/trouser combo thing that I really liked and still think about occasionally (long gone from the website) but I couldn't find a single one that didn't have wonky seams or loose threads. It's not good enough.

I've heard better things about their tailoring and I've got one of their jersey blazers that I'm really impressed with, but it's a charity shop find so likely to be several seasons old. I'm sure they do have the odd really good, well made piece and, if I worked near a branch, I'd probably pop in once or twice and week and rummage. But I can't do that and I'm no longer prepared to order online knowing I'll send 99% back. So until they sort that out, their shop just doesn't work for me any more.

alltheeastereggs · 04/05/2019 09:55

Loving the marketing speak turned just a regular mum like you

I do like Zara though they don't go up to my size

DeadWife · 04/05/2019 09:56

X-post Gwen!

PamelaX · 04/05/2019 09:59

It's funny, I find most Zara's clothes quite mumsy, just stilled "edgy" with horrible shoes on the website.

DeadWife · 04/05/2019 10:01

I don't think European based stores go in for as much vanity sizing as U.K. ones.

LonelyTiredandLow · 04/05/2019 10:12

Yes - Mango abroad is simple and classic style. I have looked at UK website for Mango and not bought anything but I did wonder if they had gone 'trendy' - seems they are probably different buyers.

At the risk of sounding snobby, everyone working in my local Zara has heavy false eyelashes and fake tan so it's hard not to think that is the target market.

Lovemusic33 · 04/05/2019 10:12

Sorry but I think most of it looks awful 🤣🤣 most of the dresses look like tents and are not flattering at all.

NigellasGuest · 04/05/2019 10:30

I like Zara a pit, thanks for posting OP.
I am 54, size S with small boobage and a straight up and down figure. Not happy to reveal upper arms though so slip dresses without a teen shirt underneath are a No for me.
I only shop online so haven't been into one of their stores though.
I have some fabulous burgundy ankle boots from Zara that have received a lot of compliments and I really love them.

NigellasGuest · 04/05/2019 10:30

A LOT not a pit Blush

MiniMum97 · 04/05/2019 10:33

I don't like any of those at all. Hideous. White dress is ok if you are slim. And what is the resurgence of peach! It was awful in the eighties. We don't need it back!

pineapplepatty · 04/05/2019 10:45

If it was an advertising thread surely they'd have picked more attractive clothes?

These would look shite on 99% of women.

SachaStark · 04/05/2019 10:45

I LOVE Zara, but the nearest store to me is over a hundred miles away Sad so I can’t shop there very often. I always find nice stuff when I go in, though. And thank heavens someone is bringing up a decent clothes shop for a change on here: too much mentioning of Next which is so ageing and frumpy.

I just wish Zara would sort their damned website out. It’s way too much to run with its massive collection pictures, my device can’t handle it and it crashes out, so I lose patience shopping on there. They also always insist that my address can’t be found, despite living in the middle of a town and receiving online orders from other stores frequently Hmm And they don’t even sell through ASOS, so I can’t get it through there either.

dontgobaconmyheart · 04/05/2019 11:19

Am wondering if I'm boring OP, your fashion taste is clearly more vibrant than mine (that's not backhanded compliment). I find Zara difficult to shop and I'm the target market - I always want to like it but when I'm in there find it hard to hunt out wearable items. They have so many different aesthetics and a lot of it is too young/looks like it's for 18 year olds, and a lot of the rest is too dated and not quite on the mark fashion wise somehow. I can see why bloggers like it because most of what I see in there is great for taking a fashioney, billowy holiday photo for Instagram but isn't something you'd keep on if you were actually on holiday.

I mainly buy bags in there, and coats in the winter (though the quality has declined from a few years ago). Am liking H&M at the moment though, which has surprised me!

Cailindeas35 · 04/05/2019 11:38

I'm happy to see a different thread on here that's not hush.
I love Zara, I'm 5ft3 straight up and down. Particularly love there jogger trousers, great if your in between sizes.
Some of there tops, blazers are really lovely.

StargazyDrifter · 04/05/2019 11:56

I'm a short and curvy size 10-12 and have only ever liked Zara tops and blazers, maybe the odd floaty dress; the trousers, skirts and more fitted stuff have always been too snug and/or too long. Accessories and the odd pair of shoes can be good there. Also some interesting patterns sometimes. Basically fairly traditional-looking basics plus the odd wildacrd is what I used to like it for. Agree that quality seems to have declined hugely in recent years and the jumble also puts me off.

I'm afraid I'm not keen on any of the screenshots here, seems to have changed direction. 100% agree on UK Mango, what a pity.

As for Boden etc, I've bought the odd anonymous looking jumper there over the years, because they sometimes have great bold colours, but have never understood the cultish obsession with it. My SIL is still like this and I find it inexplicably annoying. Perhaps I should point her towards Hush... 🙈

I don't think this is an advertising thread, enjoyed reading!

Gwenhwyfar · 04/05/2019 12:03

Just got dressed in top from Zara, jeans and jumper from Warehouse/Oasis (I mix them up). Knickers from M&S and socks from Primark. I'm so predictable.

SinglePringle · 04/05/2019 12:06

5’8, 32ff, size 12 48 year old and I would say 90% of my wardrobe is Zara.

Great for linen and cotton fabrics too.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/05/2019 12:08

"Me too. I’m not massive at a size 14, I don’t want to buy something labelled Large or sometimes I even need an XL in Zara 😡"

This is silly and childish imo and the kind of attitude that pushes shops into vanity sizing.

Fazackerley · 04/05/2019 12:10

I've bought nice pieces from Zara in the past but this season's stuff is truly minging. Mind you, most of the high street is the same. Loads of peach, beige and sludgy fern greens. Boak.

julensaor · 04/05/2019 12:14

god Op that first dress you posted has to be the ugliest thing I have ever seen. In no alternate universe does mustard/yellow satin work with flesh /peach coloured satin.

Lungelady · 04/05/2019 12:17

Worst staff in the world. Doesn't matter which city you are in. Rude and brusque.

Skiptheskip · 04/05/2019 12:25

I want to love Zara but I’ve never found a single thing in there worth buying, cheap flammable horrible materials.

And sorry OP but that jacket you bought is spectacularly hideous.

SuperNoodly · 04/05/2019 12:30

5’11 hourglass here and not a single thing in Zara fits ur flatters me, unfortunately.

It’s a shame as I really like some of their tailoring.
