Zara is killing it this SS!

I could have spent £1000 in Zara yesterday - I didn't, very restrained but everything was gorgeous and I never usually say that about Zara - can be very hit and miss. I'm worried I'm chanelling my old 20 something me as it's all cami bias cut slip dresses and Ghost style dresses and lovely baggy chambray trousers which remind me of Dash. And if I had a wedding to go to, which I don't, there are beautiful halterneck chiffon voluminous maxi dresses in vivid colours. Anyone else loving it?

JMAngel1 - this thread shows how different people's taste can be. Your descriptions of the clothes got me all excited and ready to go shopping in Zara, but the photos of the clothes posted - urgh. Their stuff just looks like shapeless sacks in cheap, tacky, largely unflattering colours to me! Maybe a case of nicer close up in real life than on shapeless models?

AwkwardPaws27 · 04/05/2019 09:16

I really struggle with their sizing; 30FF and although I can wear their trousers none of the tops/dresses/jumpsuits accommodate (or flatter) a larger bust.

tappitytaptap · 04/05/2019 09:19

I agree! I'm 34, have a 3 yr old and 7month old, and wanted to avoid some of the more 'mumsy' styles as they are not very me. Ordered 12 things from Zara and kept 9! Some lovely black faux suede mules with a perspex heel, a brown and black animal print dress I can breastfeed in (16 quid), gorgeous cobalt pleated culottes (13 quid) and lots of tops. I'd been struggling between stuff that looks really young and too old before.Smile. NB also not marketing Zara..

tanpestryfirescreen · 04/05/2019 09:20

Bless- are you a social media influencer? (make up your own alternative names- don't be too rude)

I think it's highly unlikely that Zara, a global fashion label would need to 'market' on mumsnet

How little yo know- brands pay fools to try and blag products on here all the time,

fancynancyclancy · 04/05/2019 09:21

you do realise that MN is not one entity, and has readers from late teen to grand-mother's age, I don't think it's the same women who wear comfy sandals and boohoo micro-dresses

Of course it’s not one entity, like I said I worked in fashion for years. Zara’s main demographic is mid 20s-mid 30s city dwellers who are into fast fashion & fashion conscious. This does not mean that a 50 year old who lives on a farm doesn’t shop there.

Ellapaella · 04/05/2019 09:22

How do you know that @tanpestryfirescreen? Have you been approached by a brand?

RedRiverShore · 04/05/2019 09:25

It always reminds me of Next sale in there after thousands have rummaged through, a lot of disarray and polyester/viscose. I'm sure there is some good stuff but it's hard to find.

SevenSeasofRye · 04/05/2019 09:27

I have never seen anything but bed linen I would want to buy in Zara. It looks like sweat shop stuff presented like a jumble sale.

Shimy · 04/05/2019 09:27

Mumsnet is really not Zara’s target market

Mumsnet is a mix of women of all different ages, sizes, shapes and tastes, extremely diverse. It is not one homogenous group. So you’re right Zara won’t be targeting Mumsnet as a “market” because that would be a foolish thing to do, but they will certainly find their segment of the market as this thread proves.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/05/2019 09:31

Mumsnet is really not Zara’s target market, have you seen the comfy but attractive sandals thread!

That thread was so funny, 96% of suggestions were an assault on the eyes

PamelaX · 04/05/2019 09:32

fancynancyclancy
you are getting my point completely wrong, Zara’s main demographic is mid 20s-mid 30s city dwellers who are into fast fashion & fashion conscious
MN has as many of these readers than it has 50 year old farmer posters.

RedRiverShore · 04/05/2019 09:34

Not sure where you would go in the day in that first pictured effortless dress, never seen anyone out shopping and suchlike in something like that, even with trainers Grin

chillimartini · 04/05/2019 09:36

Can't remember the last time I went into Zara...it gives me a headache as the entire store looks so disorganised. Sorry OP can't stand it! I ordered a coat from Zara online last year and it fell apart 2 months later. Awful quality clothes

fancynancyclancy · 04/05/2019 09:37

Zara has a very different marketing strategy to other brands. A tiny spend, very few promotional campaigns & barely any billboards. They do have an excellent social media strategy & one of their brand strengths is customer engagement (although it’s doesn't seem
like this in the shops). They have 30 million instagram followers so I would say it’s unlikely the op is a plant.

hollieberrie · 04/05/2019 09:39

This thread... Grin
I get you OP, the Hush love on here is constant and its fun to also talk about other brands.
I have a Zara next to my office and agree with the PP who says the store is always a mess - it really puts me off going there! I prefer their Spanish cousin / rival Mango - my style is quite minimal and i find they have less frilly, ruchey stuff. Some Zara basics are good though.. And the sizing is great for me - also small with no boobs.

fancynancyclancy · 04/05/2019 09:41

Judging by the brands & styles that appear the most often on the S&B threads I would have to disagree that the vast majority of the readers are into fast fashion & highly trend conscious.

EauDeReality · 04/05/2019 09:42

That dress posted is a rag OP. Can you wear a bra with it? Where would you wear it?
If you're tall you look good in most things and I think clothes that are better designed, better cut, they will look good on an average heighted person. If a garment HAS to be worn by somebody very tall to look half way decent then it's not all that.

MountainEagle · 04/05/2019 09:42

My problem with Zara is that 1.The shop looks like a jumble sale, 2.The fabric is often see through, 3. The one that really annoys me - they class a size 12-14 as Large and 16 as XL!

Gruzinkerbell1 · 04/05/2019 09:43

Blatant Zara ad Grin

LonelyTiredandLow · 04/05/2019 09:47

@MountainEagle agree on all counts.

Sizing seems to vary across the board. Shoes painful, material thin, usually see through and washes badly. Style is lovely but quality hit and miss. Changing rooms in my local one seem to always be out of order too so you have to queue up to cram into the one on the bottom floor and therefore can't swap sizes, etc.

Poddingtonp · 04/05/2019 09:48

I want to like Zara but my size 6, 20 something work colleague buys everything from there(££ every week) so curvy 35 year old me avoids it. It’s a shame because I do see things I like but the store is so disorganised and busy it stresses me out !

LonelyTiredandLow · 04/05/2019 09:49

Yes, why do we not have more Mango stores? I always end up in there when we go abroad. Less 'catwalk trends' huge shoulder pads or sharp diagonal cut hems than Zara.

Shmithecat2 · 04/05/2019 09:51

Their homeware and kids stuff if nice (my son is tall and skinny, Zara works well for him). Unfortunately, at 6'2, their clothes are not for me.

DeadWife · 04/05/2019 09:51

*Mumsnet is really not Zara's target market, have you seen the comfy but attractive sandals thread!

Grin

Reminds me of the Boden fetishists from years ago/white Face Fat company -whatever . Though I think now replaced by Hush? None of them remotely do anything for me, find a lot of it shapeless and the styles generic but dare criticise and the world will implode apparently.

.

MountainEagle · 04/05/2019 09:53

Me too. I’m not massive at a size 14, I don’t want to buy something labelled Large or sometimes I even need an XL in Zara 😡
