Hate midi dress length, when will it go away?!

Midi length does nothing for me, it makes me look frumpy. The problem now is finding a dress or skirt which isn't 'midi'.

I guess midi must suit some people? I never seem to see anyone in midi length in real life though. I waaaay prefer juat above the knee. Or full length. Anything but midi!

OP posts:

I'm 5.5 so not exactly tall and I love them. I think they take a bit of getting used to though if you're used to wearing shorter. I think they're really cool looking and flattering.

SallyWD · 30/04/2019 07:35

I have varicose veins so it's good for me!

SoupDragon · 30/04/2019 07:38

I'm 5'8" and I think it's a hideous length.

I don't have any trouble finding different lengths though so I'm not fussed.

Sigh81 · 30/04/2019 07:46

Love a midi skirt. Am a slim hourglass so fitted dresses can look a bit OTT but a midi length seems to help mitigate it!

TeenTitans · 30/04/2019 07:50

I like midi too.

RaininSummer · 30/04/2019 07:59

Well I am obviously so on trend that I didn't know midi was back. I am with the OP though as a tubby shortarse midi is not a good look. Fortunately I have shorter skirts so will carry on being unfashionable.

BeeMyBaby · 30/04/2019 08:00

I like midi, I'm short so it looks a bit like maxi on me but high enough so that I never trip over the skirt material. I don't have the skills or money to shorten maxi skirts.

Teddybear45 · 30/04/2019 08:03

I wear shorter midis (a bit past knee) for work but don’t like them for casual or formal occasions.

JaneR0chester · 30/04/2019 08:03

I'm only 5'2" and would love to find a midi skirt or dress.... everything is a fecking maxi on me.

I'm enjoying the long length though, my short skirts and dresses feel really boring atm - I'm not keen on tights and maxis cover up nicely without the need for tights.

Notinmyduty · 30/04/2019 08:05

Love a midi skirt. Am a slim hourglass so fitted dresses can look a bit OTT but a midi length seems to help mitigate it! Totally with you here. The other thing about above the knee is that I am always really conscious of showing too much leg and possibly knickers when I move around - so I don't feel comfortable with above the knee and as has been mentioned already - maxis are a trip hazzard!

DeadWife · 30/04/2019 08:06

I think Midis are great if you like your ankles and calves as it accentuates them.

Jackfruit · 30/04/2019 08:07

I like the look but it only works if you’re tall. I’m 5ft 2, so it doesn’t work on me at all. Skater styles dresses look better on me.

MorrisZapp · 30/04/2019 08:09

My usual favoured length is just over the knee. Midi cuts me off at the widest part of my Kevin Keegan-esque calves, making me look bloody terrible.

I'm braving a maxi for the first time in my life soon (see prettiest dress available to humanity thread, loads of midis there), wish me luck!

Cloverisover · 30/04/2019 08:10

I'm short and love a midi. Have no desire to show off my legs. Hate maxis - feel like I'm wearing an old nightie in them.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 30/04/2019 10:02

I like them. I’m not tall tall but taller than average and they seem to suit my height. I find them easy to wear unlike maxi dresses/skirt which always seem like such an effort - driving in a maxi is hellish.

SlipperOrchid · 30/04/2019 10:10

I’m 5 ft 2 and love this length. I buy dresses that are knee length on the models and they are midi length on me. I dislike my knees and feel too old for short dresses (in my 40s). This is my perfect length.

RedRiverShore · 30/04/2019 10:14

I also like them as I am older and 5’10” and hate my knees

tierraJ · 30/04/2019 10:20

I hate floaty midis as all my elderly patients seem to wear floaty skirts that length!

Fitted pencil skirts are ok.

Also I'm 5'3" so many 'midis' look more like maxis on me.

JudyGrandChamp · 30/04/2019 10:31

I cannot pull off a midi - it makes me look like my mum (who is lovely, but, you know, a bit older than me ...). I'm 5'7 and a 12, but I do have proportionally fat calves and thighs so I can't really pull off any length of skirt, sadly!

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 30/04/2019 10:32

I think they're only good for taller people, I'm just over 5ft and they're ridiculous on me

DollyPartonsBeard · 30/04/2019 10:57

I'm 5'10" and a size 18 and midis never look right on me. I struggle with what shoes to wear with them as I only wear trainers/ DMs/ biker boots. I suspect some kind of heel would be best but can't wear heels due to arthritis.

twosoups1972 · 30/04/2019 11:10

John Lewis do loads of brands and you can do a mini or above knee filter. I don’t like midi either - frumpy!

swirlette · 30/04/2019 11:13

I'm totally with you OP - they stop at a particularly unflattering point on me! It is saving me lots of money though.

Hotterthanahotthing · 30/04/2019 11:14

I love midi but there was s a choice as my 15 yr old likes minis.
When minis are in fashion there is almost no choice but to let be in trousers for me.

Swishyswash · 30/04/2019 11:20

I'm 5'10" , the midi is the perfect length for me. Maxi's are never long enough and short things are usually too short.
I'm happily buying lots of dresses at the moment.
