Hate midi dress length, when will it go away?!

Midi length does nothing for me, it makes me look frumpy. The problem now is finding a dress or skirt which isn't 'midi'.

I guess midi must suit some people? I never seem to see anyone in midi length in real life though. I waaaay prefer juat above the knee. Or full length. Anything but midi!

I love them but I do have the advantage of being tall and slim (with not too bad legs if you squint)

AnnaNimmity · 01/05/2019 19:23

yes me too - I have a long body, and lots of tops are just too short. I really don't want to be showing my midriff off.

Gingerteabag · 02/05/2019 13:33

Really love them but can't get shoes right for work, with trainers, great but too casual sandals great but not warm enough yet, pair of usual work courts, frumpiest woman alive. Gutted.

Laodamia · 02/05/2019 13:44

Love midi length. I'm pretty tall so it works really well for me. I avoid floaty though!

With knee length skirts and dresses I feel much more on display.

Fatted · 02/05/2019 13:51

I hate them too. I'm short and fat, with proportionally short legs, so they are just terrible for me.

Although, I did actually get a 'midi' dress from Apricot that's long enough to look like a maxi on me. I like it!!

twitterbird · 02/05/2019 14:35

Another one here for long live the midi

BlackPrism · 02/05/2019 16:12

Everyone wears them where I am, literally it is the uniform. They look beautiful and classy.
I can't pull off a mini I feel like my bum cheeks are out

BlackPrism · 02/05/2019 16:13

And I'm only 5'4 and they suit

Narya · 02/05/2019 16:19

I'm short and pear shaped - midi dresses are frump central on me! Fitted midi skirts (ruched or pencil/tube) are do-able though. Agree with pp that midi is greatly helped by heels, which I rarely wear.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 02/05/2019 17:23

I am 6ft and look awful in all midi's Sad

A mini, or mid thigh, or maxi or even knee length are all better

It makes my proportions look wrong, I have long legs but in a midi I look like a long-bodied soviet librarian in her 60s. And whilst that can be a great look Smile it's not the look for me

Alsogay · 02/05/2019 19:08

Awful on me. They make me look pure Kirstie Allsopp.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 02/05/2019 19:48

Totally agree Soup clothes are made for Miss Average, deviate from this then shopping becomes a nightmare.

BoomZahramay · 02/05/2019 19:54

Midi! Midi! Midi! 😍

Ohyesiam · 02/05/2019 22:16

I look like a Sunday school teacher in a midi.

MamaJulietta · 24/07/2019 00:35

I have been wondering the same thing. It is the most unflattering trend ever, and it seems like this entire season, I haven't been able to find any cute dresses that are a normal length. I think it is the rare person who can pull off a midi dress. Unless you are over 6 feet tall, I think the length just looks awkward--like you accidentally left it in the dryer too long and it shrunk two or three inches in length. It makes a dress look too long and too short at the same time. However you look at it, it doesn't look right. I have been eager to see this trend vanish for a long time now. Still waiting...

CoconutAmericano · 24/07/2019 07:45

Long live the midi! Im 5’9” and ‘regular’ length dresses sit above my fat podgey knees and I look dreadful. Midis seem to cut me off at just the right place on my leg where my lower slender leg is shown and I feel much more confident.

Deathraystare · 24/07/2019 07:49

It is better for me than above the knee. What are you talking about? There are loads more above the knee dresses which is why I hardly ever buy one!

Verite1 · 24/07/2019 07:50

I love midi but it does depend how you style them. I would always dress down so with trainers and denim/leather jacket if cold. I would never dress up. So for example I would never wear heels with them - that’s guaranteed frumpsville!

Hedgehogblues · 24/07/2019 07:55

As a wheelchair user I love them. It means I can wear a skirt without either flashing my underwear or getting the hem caught in my wheels

Troels · 24/07/2019 07:56

I'm too short for midi dresses I look shorter and fatter in them, so won't wear anything below the knee. There still seems to be lots of shorter dresses around, they usually rest right on my knee or on top of it. Otherwise I'd get the sewing machine out and hem them.

BestIsWest · 24/07/2019 07:56

I love it but I am 5’10. I’m too fat for many of the shapes at the moment but a midi length shirt dresses were my go to years ago when I was thinner. Love them.

Miseryisabutterfly · 24/07/2019 09:02

Midaxi is my favourite length. Some midis I love but I feel many are a wee bit short and don’t hit at as flattering a point. I’m 5’8” and an 8-10. My ankles are nothing to shout about but I can show them if I’ve a tan 😂

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 24/07/2019 10:20

They don't look great on me, but it's a relief that you can buy skirts that cover your knees, after years of minis. I look for slightly shorter midis that come to just below my knee - petite ranges are good for this, as I'm not petite but also not especially tall.
