(it doesn't have to be pink!)

beanaseireann · 28/04/2019 10:06

Lovely photo of CP Mary and Frederik.
How ordinary was CP Mary's life in Australia ?
Was she privileged and rich like KM or just ordinary middle class ?

Rhubarbisevil · 28/04/2019 10:15

Ellllie I think the pink coat is quite old as the boxy swing coat was in trend about 7-6 years ago. You could try some of the dress agencies to see if they have anything similar.

Elllllle · 28/04/2019 10:18

We don't really do "classes" in Oz, I guess. She wasn't rich from memory. I think she worked in a pub in Sydney when they met, but I could be wrong!

Elllllle · 28/04/2019 10:19

@Rhubarbisevil so I'm just hopelessly behind the times? Grin I love that 60s shape.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/04/2019 10:29

They met in a pub but Mary was t working in it! She has a law degree but was working in PR/advertising at the time IIRC.

Not sure how much is true, but this article is quite interesting! I had no idea she has a law degree, although I had heard that her parents were very educated. www.who.com.au/princess-mary-australian-royalty

I realise I'm behind the times as this was discussed on a previous thread, but I met up with a former colleague yesterday who went to the Dior exhibition with her daughter just recently. The photos she showed me were exquisite. They also went to see the Quant exhibition which looked just as interesting in a whole different way.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/04/2019 11:36

All the Dior tickets are sold out Sad I'll have to get myself to the V&A early one day to see if I can nab one of the same day tickets.

Love those pictures of Max and her family - lovely outfits but what really shines is that they look happy - hope that its true as it has a genuine feel about it...

latedecember1963 · 28/04/2019 12:02

My DH's work colleague joined the V&A in order to be able to buy tickets to the Dior exhibition which is one way to beat the rush.
We considered doing the same but we're already members of the National Trust and the RHS and our money can only stretch so far.

StCharlotte · 28/04/2019 12:09

I have this Dior dress from the exhibition as a screensaver. It makes me happy to see it. Everything from the '56 collection was exquisite.

On the couture theme, did anyone watch the Chanel mini- documentary via Seven Days Out on Netflix?

It was quite incredible to see the seamstresses at work. I'd love to have such a talent.

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 28/04/2019 12:52

Did anyone watch the Inside Buckingham Palace documentary on C5 last night? My DH used to live where the fake BP footage was filmed. 😀

PinguDance · 28/04/2019 12:59

Was looking at pics of Harry at the London Marathon thinking - who is his attractive pal...Peter Phillips! Where does he spend his time, I’d forgotten he exists. Interesting how low profile he is compared to Zara.

PinguDance · 28/04/2019 13:02

It’s also funny that I was fully aware of Autum and Savannah and Isla but had completely forgotten there was a man involved in that family too.

yellowalstroemeria · 28/04/2019 13:15

If Harry's at the marathon the baby can't be here yet. Blimey.

Did anyone watch the Inside Buckingham Palace documentary on C5 last night?

Yes! It wasn't a BBC effort Wink but I did enjoy it. Very pro-Diana- I felt that they forgot to mention that the Queen may have been at Balmoral but was actually spending time with two children who had lost their mum.

Stravapalava · 28/04/2019 13:32

I love Peter Phillips. He looks like a lovely bloke.

You definitely should watch Valentino , the last Emperor. The seamstresses are incredibly talented, and it’s such a shame that couture is a dying art.

Paradyning · 28/04/2019 14:22

Is that in Netflix @queenofarles?

BertrandRussell · 28/04/2019 14:25

“If Harry's at the marathon the baby can't be here yet”

Why on earth not?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 28/04/2019 14:32

The other thread has been deleted, it was getting a bit ugly apparently re DoS. There's a new one which is unashamedly for gossip but hopefully not unkind.

TSSDNCOP · 28/04/2019 14:54

“If Harry's at the marathon the baby can't be here yet”

It's a reasonable assumption isn't it?

I suppose some DH might, on their wife having just given birth, pop up to the finish line especially if it's right near their new office, but unlikely.

DuchessDumbarton · 28/04/2019 14:55

Yes, imaginarycat- I was lurking as it was initially a bit gossipy and passed 10minutes while drinking tea...but then it became very icky.

Anyhoo, I remember watching a documentary (Chanel I think?) about the speed and artistry of seamstresses... it was fascinating. I'm not particularly a fashion head as am a bit of a sturdy country type girl, but it left me with an appreciation for the work involved.
Those seamstresses know how to work.

LoversLane · 28/04/2019 14:57

@stcharlotte what an amazing dress, oh to have that waistline! It would certainly make me smile too.

I work in the museum industry so get free entry into most exhibitions but reciprocal entry is removed if it’s a sell out such as Dior. The V&A have been limiting reciprocal entry into a lot of exhibitions recently. I really want to go to Dior and Quant so may treat myself to membership so I can get in!
