On every thread where someone posts a picture of sandals to ask for advice, theres always a chorus of 'hideous', 'granny', 'fugly' etc. So please share some photos of sandals that you think are nice, stylish, chic, non-stomach-churning, whatever. Bear in mind that many of us need sandals to be comfortable and suitable for lots of walking. I promise no snarky comments!

Shirley let's see yours then...

MargotLovedTom1 · 16/04/2019 15:04

I think for hours of comfortable walking, you have to venture into walking sandals territory...then the claws really come out Grin ('re comments on here, not on feet!).

PinkLipsDontLie · 16/04/2019 15:11

@Ellapaella and @Alwayscheerful: Those are not my legs and feet, although mine are almost identical with the first pic, not the second. I am pale, not tanned :) so, since 1st pic feet are almost the same, I will thank you anyway for your sweet words :)

@Alwayscheerful both pairs are from Etsy: check madammeshushu and BohemianGreekSandals. The first pic, are actually v comfortable and suitable for walking for hours. The second not as much, as they are annoyingly flat :/. So I don't wear them as much..

HastaLaVistaPrint · 16/04/2019 15:15

Oh lord, for me a walking sandal is a bridge too far. Shock

downcasteyes · 16/04/2019 15:15

Honestly, I have reached an age where I can no longer ignore the Great Divide in Sandals. I am forced to face the truth, which is that I have to choose between pretty and feminine and not really be able to move... or I can have fugly and cushioned and be able to do my 10,000 steps a day without being in actual pain.

Those of you who wear Birkenstocks, I take my hat of to your pain tolerance levels. It's like being in some medieval penance where you are slapped repeatedly on the sole of your feet after a few miles in those!

HastaLaVistaPrint · 16/04/2019 15:28

The key is the back strap for a Birkenstock, otherwise yes, medieval foot sole slapping is the order of the day. I also get burny-ball-of-foot if I try to walk a distance at speed in a Birkenstock without a back strap.

Sorry should have said -they are from White Stuff but by Moheda.

I have had them on and I would say they are true to size and not too high. Definitely more comfortable with the flex bit too. They don’t look overly clompy either. Going to do a whole day in London wearing them and will report back re comfort levels after that.

Miriamkiwi · 16/04/2019 15:38

Fitflop have some wonderful comfortable not too ugly offers you need the thicker soled ones they've been doing a"fashionable" range with less oomph in the soles, I've a million foot problems and these babies are so good you just get some and you absolutely will not care if your bebunioned clodhoppers are on full display!!🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 16/04/2019 15:40

I have always found Birkenstock heaven once worn in and my feet stay put. The only ones I haven’t been able to get on with are the one strap ones. The Florida type have been my favourite

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 16/04/2019 15:47

Oh, those first ones are lovely, identity, where are they from?

downcasteyes · 16/04/2019 15:52

I have ankle strap Birkies - the problem I have is that the soles are so hard that I get referred pain up my legs! I have broken a pair in and they were still agony after hundreds of miles. I gave up on them in the end, which is not something I do lightly for a pair of relatively expensive sandals.

Teva are better, but my God they are hideous.

myidentitymycrisis · 16/04/2019 15:55

mother they are from eBay they come from Israel and brand are called Camel. Cost about £15 a couple of years ago

I have had a couple of pairs of sandals from units a bit like these. Very comfy and have lasted for ages

HastaLaVistaPrint · 16/04/2019 15:56

Now, if those second ones modelled by identity have soles thicker than a Rizla and come in black or grey, sign me up!

ShirleyPhallus · 16/04/2019 15:57

@JaneJeffer, the ones posted by Pink are lovely!

Queenbean · 16/04/2019 15:58

Identity lovely sandals but how long are your toes?!

ILoveWillSmith · 16/04/2019 15:59

I have Birkenstock Gizeh - they don't flap about at all, very secure for driving or running after a bus!

myidentitymycrisis · 16/04/2019 16:01

Queenbean , freakishly long I’m afraid, they account for a large proportion of my size 8’s!

ScatteredMama82 · 16/04/2019 16:03

I have these ones - they are Crocs and they are sooo comfy and they look nice too. Not granny sandals :)

I've lived in Birkenstock's for years, I used to work in a very hot climate on the beach a lot and they were perfect, at work I'm on my feet for 10-12 hours and they don't hurt my feet.

I've had Arizona and Rio but I'm now into these Mayari ones, they have the added bonus that they fit my wide left foot and the bunion is entirely left to stick out without rubbing.

HastaLaVistaPrint · 16/04/2019 16:05

I'm thinking for with black 7/8 trousers and a black floaty top.
